Chapter 531: Jinya: Why Can't I Go Abroad Just Because I Don't Have an ID?_2
Leopard Sister smacked her lips, fish, it's fine to eat a piece occasionally, but every day? You think I'm a vegetarian?
As for Jinya, this guy had heard Chen Ying mention the world of ice and snow and the sea several times and has long wanted to go.
It's not like she hasn't seen snow, but she's never seen foreign snow!
However, no matter how much Jinya pouts and fusses, Chen Ying would never agree to her coming to Nordic countries.
Leopard Sister was so annoyed by Jinya that she got a headache, so she just stood up and walked out. Little Fatty from the Xia family saw Leopard Sister leave, and trotted along holding a kitten cub.
He barely took two steps before his mom grabbed him by the ear, "Put down the kitten cub, it hasn't even opened its eyes yet, what are you playing at?"
Mengmeng came in holding a tray of instruments, scolded her son for a couple of sentences, and took the kitten cub out of his hands, putting it back in the incubator.
"Brother Ying, the surgical wound on the mother leopard cat should be about healed, let's remove the stitches tomorrow."
"Sure, you handle it. This leopard cat is amazing, eight cubs, tsk, luckily we found out in time, though it was a difficult birth, there were no stillborns, quite fortunate."
Dao Meihua added with a smile, "Fortunately, Yangyang arrived in time, otherwise the consequences would not have been very good."
Yangyang is Little Fatty's nickname, his full name is Xia Ruanyang.
He went out to play with Jinya and a few other little animals, and discovered the laboring leopard cat in the woods. Thanks to his natural affinity for animals, he managed to carry the struggling leopard cat back to the emergency station with his bare hands.
When he carried the leopard cat back, a leader from the emergency station happened to be inspecting the work, witnessing this scene. The leader's heart was pounding like a drum, and they even asked about this Little Fatty's situation a few more times.
Upon learning that he was the child of Little Sen and Ruan Mengmeng, and born with an affinity for animals, the leader was pleased and even gave a gift on the spot.
After chatting with the big and little cats at home, Chen Ying flirted with Dao Meihua for a while and then closed the video, preparing to go for a walk.
In this region, it's already dark by three or four in the afternoon, and the courtyard relies entirely on outdoor lights for illumination.
Around Chen Ying's pond, outdoor lights were also installed, casting a soft glow on a few snoring sea seals, adding a lot of warmth to the atmosphere.
The baby cub was nestled between two mother sea seals, while the other two little sea seals cuddled together, sleeping sweetly on the sandy ground near the Haibo waterbed.
There were still some leftover fish meat and bones near the pond leading to the snack storage, so Chen Ying quickly cleaned up these food scraps. The longer they stayed, the more they stuck to the tiles, becoming smelly and dirty.
He brought a pile of firewood, all cut to the same length, indoors, stacking them by the fireplace. Chen Ying picked up some firewood and started a fire. Besides providing warmth, it could also be used to roast some food, like sweet potatoes or potatoes.
Preparing a meal for one was easy. After finishing eating around six o'clock, Chen Ying was about to go to the study to continue researching when he received a call from the local environmental bureau.
On the call, he explained in detail about the Arctic fox's situation and introduced his identity, making the other party's attitude much more amicable.
"Chen, we'd like to discuss with you whether you could temporarily take responsibility for treating this Arctic fox? Once it's confirmed to be healthy, we'll arrange for someone to come over and take it away."
The other party talked at length, meaning they were very short-staffed right now. The original veterinarian had temporarily left the area for various reasons, and the one coming to fill in hadn't arrived yet. Otherwise, they'd have to send the Arctic fox to a rescue unit in another city, which isn't easy to coordinate, and it would be more convenient to have Chen Ying help.
Of course, they would cover all the necessary expenses and issue a certificate to Chen Ying.
Chen Ying furrowed his brow slightly. The procedures overseas are very cumbersome, especially when it involves specially protected animals. However, he couldn't just ignore it, which means his upcoming work plans would likely be completely disrupted.
In the following two weeks, Chen Ying will not only take care of the baby cub but also care for the Arctic fox.
Unlike the baby cub, which was sent over by the rescue center and directly entrusted to Chen Ying for care and assistance in returning to its community, the Arctic fox falls under a private and official cooperative rescue.
The report was submitted over a week ago, but there hasn't been any word on what to do next. Even the local environmental bureau staff responsible for coordinating have become increasingly irritable.
Fortunately, with few people and lots of land in the village, along with dense forests and shrubs, the Little Fox plays outside every day and returns to sleep at night, so Chen Ying doesn't have to worry too much.
The problem is that with such a creature around, everyone feels uneasy, fearing any issues during its foster care period, which would not only affect Chen Ying but potentially involve others as well.
Luckily, Chen Ying had collaborated with certain organizations within the country on multiple occasions due to other work, which earned him high trust from official organizations. Therefore, he bypassed government agencies directly, contacted the Arctic Fox Protection Association, and packaged and sent them information on the situation when the fox was taken in, the treatment process, and its current condition.
The association reacted much faster than government departments, arriving at Chen Ying's place three days after receiving and verifying the information.
"The little guy is in good physical condition and is quite energetic, suitable for release."
The association's professional veterinarian conducted a check and lavishly praised Chen Ying.
They proposed to equip the Little Fox with an electronic collar before releasing it to monitor how it ended up traveling from the far northern tundra to the coastal lowlands.
Even though they're all around the same latitude, the climate and food resources near the bay are quite different from those of the Arctic tundra. Normally, Arctic foxes wouldn't stray far from their territory unless their habitat was severely lacking in food and the environment forced them to move elsewhere.
After fitting the electronic collar, the little Arctic Fox was taken to a location near the tundra for release.
The poor little fellow couldn't fathom why it was being left out in the wild after living so well at Chen Ying's house, with food and shelter without worrying about danger. Does a fox not deserve to live like Bao Bao? And you didn't throw those few big dumb animals into the sea either!
The fox is heartbroken, the fox sheds tears, the fox wants to make a fuss!
However, after leaving Chen Ying, nobody could understand the Arctic Fox's language. It whimpered for a good while before it had to dash into the icy tundra amidst the humans' annoying laughter.
After sending away the little Arctic fox, only the baby cub remained.
The baby cub is obedient, much loved by the two foster mothers.
It's recently entered the weaning stage, but occasionally still seeks out the two foster mothers for a round of milk. Chen Ying has started gradually adding fish paste to the baby's diet, allowing it to transition smoothly to eating fish chunks.
In fact, with two foster mothers, this extra carefulness from Chen Ying wasn't needed. However, since the baby cub is half a month younger than its foster mothers' biological children,
the two little sea seals have started eating whole small fish or tearing apart large fish caught by their mother for meat. The two mother sea seals can't coordinate well between their own children's and the foster daughter's feeding differences; this part of the work needs human help.
Fortunately, the baby cub adapted well, often seeing Haibo playing and foraging in the sea with the two big brothers, it couldn't resist joining them.
Playing in the sea and playing in the pool are completely different experiences, especially at noon, basking in the warm sun, slowly spiraling down onto the broad-leaved seaweed in the sea, a feeling nothing else can replace.
Haibo is smart; it can hold its breath for thirty to forty minutes at a time, but the baby cub is a little weaker. Its best record so far is only twenty-six minutes.
After sending the latest test results to the staff at the Seal Rescue Center, Chen Ying began packing up to return to school.
Initially, he was using a five-day break to visit Hai Lang, but the interruption of the little Arctic fox kept him there for almost a month. Back at school, after some classes, it would soon be time for the holidays.
He's planning a trip back to China, first to discuss Er Niu and the Little Cub staying in Jiamu Gou Snow Mountain, second to propose to the Dao family, as he and Meihua have been dating for several years and should marry.
Especially since Xia Ruanyang, the cute Little Fatty, is growing cuter by the day, making both his parents and Professor Bai's couple, as well as the Dao family's parents, and Meihua's brother and sister-in-law all hope that they could also have an equally cute child as Yangyang soon.
The two children's similar ages could grow up together as companions.
The third thing is to attend Yin Li's wedding.
That guy silently settled his major personal affair and even came to show off in front of him. Saying, even though Chen Ying and Dao Meihua established their relationship first, he would be married first.
This time back, if he doesn't drink that guy under the table, he wouldn't be a Chen!
