Chapter 425 Midnight Terror_2
After staying at the veterinarian station for four and a half days, the examination results came out. The mother leopard had recovered well, she could eat and drink, and showed no symptoms of diarrhea.
Since food was provided daily, her milk secretion was also good. The little snow leopard was no longer being hand-fed milk powder, but its daily meat strips were still continued.
"Dr. Chen, will she be released back tomorrow? Back to the same location?"
"Yes, in this situation she doesn't need to be sheltered for rescue, just release her back to where she was found. By the way, have you guys contacted Mao Cuo? His eldest son is a hardworking kid, and my suggestion is that he acts as a temporary ranger. At least until they move away from the pasture, he can help patrol the nearby mountains and keep an extra eye on the mother snow leopard and her cub."
"We've sent up the report, but their family is moving next month. If successful, it could probably only be settled next year."
Entering the winter, the temperature at the high mountain pasture dropped quickly, and the cattle and sheep inevitably couldn't stay there for long and had to move to their winter pasture.
Their family's winter pasture was more than seventy kilometers away from the mountain's summer pasture. They spend nearly half the year at the summer pasture and move back to the winter pasture as deep autumn comes.
Chen Ying didn't know much about the life of the herders here and didn't feel it was appropriate to give advice. Since they already had plans, he didn't ask further.
After staying an extra day to ensure that the mother snow leopard's eating, drinking, and excretion were all normal, Chen Ying and the staff of the veterinarian station, along with the police comrades who had assisted in rescuing the mother snow leopard, went to Mao Cuo's family pasture.
Upon reaching the foot of the mountain, the iron cage containing the mother snow leopard and her cub was unloaded from the vehicle. After taking safety measures, the staff opened the cage door.
The mother snow leopard sprang out, ran a few meters, then turned back and called out. The little leopard, still a bit scared inside the cage, then followed and ran out.
Mother and cub ran one after the other, quickly reaching the hillside.
The mother leopard turned her head to look back at Chen Ying and Black Gold standing at his feet.
"Argh, arghh!" the mother snow leopard called out a few times to Black Gold, as if wondering why it was not following.
Black Gold paced in small steps, barked a few times, and after that, the mother snow leopard gave up on the idea of calling Black Gold to follow and took a deep look at Chen Ying before quickly heading up the mountain with her child.
"Look at the mountain opposite." A police officer suddenly whispered and pointed towards the diagonal peak.
Chen Ying picked up his phone to focus, zooming in the lens, and saw the previously agile male snow leopard hunting a rock sheep.
It looked like it had succeeded already; its paw was on the sheep's head, blood around its mouth, majestically observing the mother snow leopard and her cub returning from recovery.
The figures of the mother and child quickly appeared at the edge of the first peak.
It seemed she had noticed the male snow leopard too, she paused, shielded her child with her tail, and looked up into the eyes of the male snow leopard for a while.
"It seems that the mother leopard hasn't returned to her previous cave; she headed towards the other side."
Mao Cuo was there, too. He frowned as he watched the direction the mother snow leopard was heading – it was closer to his family's pasture, he always felt the leopard might be up to some mischief.
Mao Cuo's eldest son chuckled, "Dad, is it eyeing our calves?"
Mao Cuo raised his hand intending to smack his son on the head, but noticing the smiling faces of the nearby police officers, he embarrassingly lowered his hand, then gently kicked his son in the rear.
"Go herd the cattle, what nonsense are you spouting here?"
The head police officer leaned in close to whisper something to Mao Cuo, who kept nodding and whispered a few sentences in reply.
Chen Ying couldn't understand, nor did he inquire further; instead, he just took a video of the surrounding scenery and sent it to Qing Ye and the rescue center's main chat group.
"The conditions here are very good. Currently, there is only one male snow leopard, healthy with strong hunting abilities. A mother leopard with a cub, in relatively good condition, requires continued monitoring."
Whether Mao Cuo's eldest son could act as a temporary ranger or not was unknown to him; but having seen the boy's photographs, which were quite impressive, he sent some of his works to Dao Meihua and Ji Xin.
The former could help him find opportunities in the M Alliance or other charitable organizations, while the latter could provide the boy with systematic technical guidance.
Ji Xin had been traveling all over the place that year, having met Chen Ying once and then disappearing the next day. If not for his occasional appearances in the chat group, Chen Ying wouldn't even know if he was still alive.
Recently Duanmu and Xiao Liu mentioned that he was planning to shoot some sort of documentary at River Source, Chen Ying didn't ask for specifics; he would naturally be informed if his help was needed.
Originally, when he sent the photos to Ji Xin, Chen Ying hadn't expected an immediate response, but right after they had released the snow leopard and planned their return, Ji Xin's call came.
"Are you coming now?"
Chen Ying realized that after Ji Xin got cheerful, he also had a tendency to be impulsive; here he was, already on the way while they were speaking.
Of course, Ji Xin also said he didn't need Chen Ying to wait for him; he just asked Chen to let Mao Cuo's family know that he'd be coming to visit.
This time, he drove his own car and planned on not making a detour to the protection station; he would head straight down from the pasture to the national highway to reach River Source Emergency Station.
Hearing that Chen Ying was going to wait for a photographer friend, the veterinarian and police comrades split into two groups; the veterinarian station's small truck, carrying the transshipment cage and the veterinarian left first, and the police officer stayed back with Chen Ying and the others.
