Chapter 55: Chapter 55
"Vardy!!!! Wow!!! His speed is incredible! Look at him run—like a cheetah!" exclaimed Letkinson in the commentary booth. "This second-division striker is Luton's sharpest weapon!"
"But breaking through Petr Čech won't be easy," added Redknapp Jr. "Vardy will have to work harder to beat one of the world's top goalkeepers. This is a far cry from the goalkeepers he faced in the second division."
Vardy stood on the pitch, visibly frustrated as he jumped in regret. His eyes lingered on Čech, whose sharp sense of danger had thwarted him. Had Čech been even half a step slower, Vardy would have gained control of the ball.
This was the hallmark of a world-class goalkeeper.
Vardy glanced at Čech, who stood at the ready, wearing his trademark black helmet—a constant reminder of his recovery from a fractured skull. Despite the injury, the Czech goalkeeper remained a formidable presence who gave strikers nightmares.

"Chelsea have dominated possession so far but still struggle to penetrate Luton's defensive core," commented He Hongfa in the broadcast studio. "In contrast, Luton's counterattack just now was far more threatening than Lampard's off-target long shot."
As word of the match spread online, more viewers began tuning in via the internet and television. This growing audience brought smiles to the leadership at Guangzhou Sports Club, especially since late-night matches like this, particularly FA Cup games, rarely attracted Premier League-level attention.
Much of the hype centered on Luton's legendary coach, Gao Bo.
Meanwhile, Chelsea players on the pitch echoed the sentiment of the commentators.
Čech, frustrated by the missteps of his teammates, roared toward the front, clearly unhappy with the sloppy play that led to Luton's counterattack.
Deco, who had lost the ball earlier, stood with his hands on his hips, visibly dejected. Čech's scolding seemed to target him directly.
"Focus!!!!" shouted Lampard, trying to rally his team.
Deco, however, snapped back, his frustration boiling over. "Who said to speed up the passing just now?!"
Lampard, known for his fiery temperament, wasn't about to back down. The two midfielders exchanged heated words until their teammates stepped in to diffuse the argument.
Even so, Deco's criticism struck a chord with the Chelsea players. The risk of speeding up their passes was now weighing heavily on their minds. Was it worth the gamble against a second-division team like Luton? Or should they play conservatively and ensure a safe win?
The dilemma was apparent.
---
On the sidelines, Chelsea coach Luiz Felipe Scolari intervened to settle the debate. He gestured for the players to stay calm and prioritize stability. Luton's counterattack had clearly unnerved the Brazilian coach.
Luton took a throw-in, and after a quick combination between Vardy and Charlie Austin, Vardy unleashed a shot from the edge of the box. Though it sailed over the crossbar, it marked Luton's first attempt on goal.
Chelsea returned to their possession-heavy play, but their inability to break through Luton's defense remained evident.
---
Up in the VIP box, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich looked increasingly displeased.
Having traveled from the warm Mediterranean to the cold, damp weather of England, the match did little to lift his spirits. The dismal conditions reminded him of Siberia, and Chelsea's performance on the pitch felt equally bleak.
Abramovich had brought in Scolari with the promise of "sexy and beautiful football." But in football, results matter most. A team can play attractive football only if they're winning; otherwise, any style of play is deemed ugly.
On the field, Chelsea's play looked uninspired. Their midfield passes were slow and lacked direction. Malouda attempted a cross from the left, but it was easily cleared by Luton's defender Jeffrey.
Chelsea's star striker Anelka grew increasingly isolated upfront. Frustrated by the lack of service, he dropped deeper into midfield to get involved. But even then, his struggles continued.
When the broadcast cameras focused on Anelka, it was a moment of him losing possession to Kanté.
---
Kanté's interception sparked another quick counterattack for Luton. The ball was quickly worked forward to Vardy, who faced off against Ivanović. With a quick feint, Vardy maneuvered past the defender and struck a powerful shot with his right foot!
Čech dove to make an incredible save, barely pushing the ball away from the top corner.
The near-miss highlighted Chelsea's struggles. While they dominated possession, they failed to create any real danger. Meanwhile, Luton's counterattacks were growing increasingly threatening.
---
Abramovich's expression darkened further. In his mind, thoughts of potential managerial replacements began to surface. "I wonder how Mourinho is doing at Inter..."
Lost in thought, Abramovich barely paid attention as the match dragged on. Chelsea's inability to break through Luton's defense left the game stagnant.
When the referee finally blew the whistle to end the first half, Abramovich rose from his seat with a grim expression and left the VIP box without a word.
