Chapter 19: Chapter 19 One Foot
Duan Yanqing was very curious. What was his proactive attitude all about? Could it be he was after the payment for the rescue?
Duan Yanqing and her father, Duan Pengcheng, shared the same thought; after all, their Duan Family was a prominent clan in Northern Sea, with no shortage of people trying to curry favor.
Ling Tianyu's hand was still stretched out, but Duan Pengcheng hadn't shaken it, which made it quite awkward for him.
"Please wait a moment," Duan Yanqing said to Ling Tianyu, stepped aside, and pulled out a phone to dial a number.
"Have someone deliver one million in cash immediately." Duan Yanqing instructed someone outside the hospital. No matter what, just letting the guy leave without anything seemed inappropriate, especially since he had saved her daughter.
"Hmph!" Duan Xinxin didn't have a nice expression. Even if he had saved her sister, so what? Cursing at her granny, he was really the first; her family might let you off, but I won't, and will make you pay the price the day after tomorrow.
Soon, a man wearing a black suit and sunglasses came over with a white box and stood behind Duan Yanqing.
"Give it to him," Duan Yanqing ordered her people.
The man in the suit nodded, opened the box, and placed it in front of Ling Tianyu.
"This is the fee for saving my daughter; this one million should be enough," Duan Yanqing looked at Ling Tianyu, believing the one million was enough to support him for many years, thus not mistreating him.
"Hmph, pauper!" Duan Xinxin scoffed. To save a life is greater than building a seven-story pagoda, yet he shamelessly lingered for payment; clearly, he was a pauper.
Ling Tianyu was at a loss whether to cry or laugh. You are the people of the Duan Family; naturally, you are the ones I have to protect. Did you really think I saved someone for money? You think too little of yourselves.
"Is it not enough?" Duan Yanqing, seeing Ling Tianyu's indifferent reaction, thought it wasn't sufficient. She pulled out a pen, wrote another check for a million, and threw it into the cash box.
Ling Tianyu nearly couldn't help but laugh out loud. The money wasn't of much use to him.
"Still not enough?" Duan Yanqing was getting a little angry. Being too greedy wasn't a good thing.
"Here, another million for you. Over three million should make you a wealthy person in Northern Sea." Duan Yanqing wrote another check and tossed it onto the cash box, warning him not to blame her if she turned hostile if he demanded any more.
"Hey, do you want it or not? Don't think that just because you saved my sister, the Duan Family owes you a favor; who do you think you are?" Duan Xinxin couldn't stand it anymore, this guy was too greedy, to the point of being disgraceful.
"Young man, take this three million and leave; don't be too greedy," Duan Pengcheng was more reasonable; after all, he was an elder.
"Girl, I haven't even opened my mouth to speak," Ling Tianyu shot a glance at Duan Xinxin, knowing sooner or later her mouth would get her into trouble.
"Then take the money and leave! What are you lingering around here for?" Duan Xinxin spoke irritably, implying if he didn't leave then he must think the money wasn't sufficient; what a bumpkin.
Ling Tianyu really wanted to slap her, but after thinking twice, he let it go; after all, he had a duty to protect the people of the Duan Family. Duan Pengcheng hadn't even shaken hands with him, how awkward that was. He'd have to find another opportunity.
"I don't want the money," Ling Tianyu now had no idea how to articulate his stance and didn't have an appropriate reason; he had to leave first and deal with Guo Cong's matter.
"What a strange kid," Duan Pengcheng and his son Duan Yanqing were puzzled. To refuse the money and then not leave? That was indeed strange.
Thankfully, Yanran was fine; I should head back to the ward and see for myself.
Having arrived outside the hospital, Ling Tianyu noticed Dongfang Yan was still there, which piqued his curiosity. Hadn't he sent him home?
"Brother Yu, they didn't do anything to you, did they?" Dongfang Yan was waiting at the hospital's entrance for his own parents to arrive, believing that if Duan Yanqing saw his parents, he would show some respect. Not even giving a chance to explain, just bullying people, huh?
"I'm fine," Ling Tianyu waved his hand to signal that he was okay. This brother of his had proven his loyalty; that's what mattered.
Upon hearing this, Dongfang Yan saw that his Brother Yu was unharmed and called his parents to tell them not to come. This surprised Ling Tianyu quite a bit–the fact that he had called his parents over for his sake, not afraid to pull them into a potential family conflict. Having such a brother was enough.
"Let's head back to the hotel first." Ling Tianyu glanced at the time; he still hadn't dealt with Guo Cong. He needed to teach him a lesson, make him fear him every time they crossed paths, like a dog that needs to be scared by the stick, or it will bite you every time it sees you.
Soon, Dongfang Yan drove Ling Tianyu back to the hotel where Nan Feng was already waiting.
"Where is he?" Ling Tianyu took the cigarette that Nan Feng offered him and asked.
"Inside the room. I've thrown out all of his buddies and gave him a beating earlier. The kid deserved it," Nan Feng exhaled smoke, clearly annoyed. To mess with his Brother Yu was simply asking for trouble.
The three of them entered the hotel's private room and saw Guo Cong tied up to a chair, his face swollen and bruised, clearly the work of Nan Feng's lesson.
"What are you looking at?!" Seeing Guo Cong glaring at his Brother Yu, Nan Feng slapped him so hard his teeth almost flew out.
"I dealt with your brothers because they deserved it—one was too mouthy, and the other made me uncomfortable. Chang Hong's hands were broken by me, one finger at a time," Ling Tianyu said with a cold smile, sitting on a chair brought close to him. "Want to know why?"
"Damn it, just let me go, and my brothers will make you pay with your life!" Guo Cong was still tough, completely unaware of his peril, daring to threaten Ling Tianyu.
"The hell! You dare threaten my Brother Yu!" Upon hearing this, both Dongfang Yan and Nan Feng lost their tempers. Did he just see them as decorations?
"Don't move," Ling Tianyu, holding a cigarette between two fingers, gestured to his brothers to stay calm.
"Snap!" Ling Tianyu lit a cigarette and placed it in Guo Cong's mouth himself.
Realizing this, Guo Cong laughed, thinking Ling Tianyu must be scared, just a coward who could only fight a little. Once he got away, he would bring more people and torture Ling Tianyu to death.
"Kid, be smart and let me go. For the sake of your ex-girlfriend Qin Tianyi, I could reluctantly just break one arm and one leg of yours. Otherwise, I'll have you chopped to pieces," Guo Cong said, recalling that Chang Hong had told him about the broken fingers incident at the rental house and that he knew Qin Tianyi was Tianyu's ex-girlfriend.
But to be honest, his ex-girlfriend was indeed attractive, those long legs enough to make anyone want to have a go. Too bad, his brother had claimed them.
"Ex-girlfriend?" Guo Cong's words surprised both Dongfang Yan and Nan Feng. Who was their Brother Yu's ex-girlfriend? Why hadn't Brother Yu mentioned her?
"Xiao Feng, did you check his background?" Ling Tianyu stood up and asked Nan Feng.
"No," Nan Feng replied, as he had been too busy handling him.
"I see." Ling Tianyu exhaled a puff of smoke and suddenly kicked Guo Cong's head with force.
