Chapter 173 - Shields Against the Storm
"Atlas will destroy them, Luna," Ember cut in.
Luna turned to her, her expression torn between disbelief and reluctant curiosity.
"With the way he carries himself, even I'm curious to see what he has planned," Ember went on with a light laugh. "So how about we just sit back, watch from a distance, and see how this plays out?"
Luna exhaled sharply, irritation flickering across her face. She sank back into her seat, crossing her legs with a huff.
"I'm under so much pressure right now. This is a critical moment. If they manage to defeat that monster, we'll end up with two alliances on this island strong enough to win."
She paused, her shoulders slumping as she let out another sigh.
"Not that we had much of a chance from the start, anyway…"
Ember leaned over and nudged her shoulder with a playful grin.
"Keep optimistic. Atlas is cooking, you know."
Atlas could read exactly what was running through Luna's mind.
She was carefully weighing the risks. If they struck at Alliance B while the enemy was weakened, both sides would suffer heavy casualties. And that outcome would hand victory straight to Alliance A.
They were already the strongest force on the island. If both of their rivals, Luna's faction and Alliance B, bled themselves out, Alliance A would sweep in, crush the remnants, and seize the island without resistance.
And despite the Raid Monster's absurd level and grade, Luna still believed Alliance B stood a real chance of defeating it. If they threw everything they had into the fight.
But Ember's words tipped the scales. Luna let out a quiet sigh, conceding the argument, and stopped pressing Atlas further.
Soon, Alliance B would begin their assault on the Island Boss.
It was a battle too important to look away from, one that had to be witnessed in full.
If only they could have seen it with their own eyes, the spectacle would have been even more extraordinary.
But that luxury wasn't theirs.
Only someone like Kurogasa, an assassin skilled enough to slip past enemy eyes could get close enough to watch what was about to unfold.
**
A thunderous explosion ripped through the entrance of the monster's chamber.
Alliance B's forces surged into the raid zone with ruthless efficiency, their timing flawless.
The vanguard charged in first. Frontliners raised their shields in unison, bracing themselves for the inevitable onslaught from the colossal beast.
The monster's roar shook the cavern, its massive frame trembling as it gathered raw elemental energy. Then, with a violent eruption, it unleashed a freezing blast that tore through the chamber in every direction.
The tanks moved instantly, scattering across the volcanic ice pool as they encircled the beast. Their formation was perfect, cutting off every angle of escape.
The freezing wave slammed into them, but their immense barriers flared to life, absorbing the brunt of the devastation. The walls of energy crackled under the strain but held firm.
It was an awe-inspiring display. Discipline, coordination, and sheer resilience woven seamlessly together.
Atlas's eyes narrowed as he observed. He was certain that an attack of that scale could have flash-frozen anyone unfortunate enough to be caught in its path.
And yet…
Alliance B's frontliners endured it. Their defensive rotation was immaculate, shields shifting smoothly from one bearer to another, each tank stepping in and out with precision as they shared the weight of the monster's wrath.
Then, even more melee attackers surged into the chamber, followed closely by mages and archers, who swiftly took their positions across the battlefield. The massive cavern was now teeming with fighters, each one moving in perfect sync, their roles clearly defined.
The mages combined their spells, weaving together a magic prison cube that locked the Raid Monster in place. Meanwhile, the archers unleashed a barrage of arrows from every direction, raining down relentless fire upon the beast.
The monster roared violently, thrashing and struggling as it fired wild, destructive blasts in every direction. But the prison was held.
The tanks wasted no time, charging in and delivering heavy blows one after another, while the mages and archers continued their relentless assault, launching barrage after barrage of ranged attacks.
Even just watching this spectacle unfold on the screen was extraordinary.
This battle showcased the sheer strength of Alliance B when they united their forces completely.
It was clear, this was not an enemy Atlas could simply overpower, not in his current state. The difference in strength was staggering. A gap that couldn't be ignored.
The close-range fighters continued their relentless assault, striking the Raid Monster from every direction.
Amidst the chaos, the beast was completely overwhelmed. With so many enemies closing in at once, it was clear that the monster was suffering massive damage, its movements growing sluggish.
It could barely even fight back.
At a glance, this raid looked like a guaranteed victory for Alliance B. Their coordination, numbers, and sheer firepower were overwhelming.
And if they succeeded in taking down the Island Boss…
Wouldn't that mean Atlas's entire plan to destroy Alliance B would fall apart?
"They seem like they're about to win this fight, huh?"
Ember chuckled, turning to Atlas with a grin. But it was obvious, she was the only one in the room still able to laugh.
"Atlas, where's your plan? All I'm seeing is Alliance B successfully clearing this Raid Battle… Did something go wrong?"
Luna shot Ember a look. "Weren't you the one who supported Atlas's grand plan from the start, Ember?"
"I won't deny that, haha," Ember admitted, still laughing. "But this battle… their army is just too massive. It's only going to make things harder for us."
However, just moments later, Luna's expression shifted. A realization flickered across her face.
"No, Ember… I don't think this is over yet."
And right as she spoke—
Boom!
The frontline tanks of Alliance B were suddenly struck by a direct hit. A massive, unexpected attack.
A colossal tail erupted from beneath the battlefield, smashing into the soldiers with a violent, explosive force.
In an instant, dozens of them were launched into the air, their bodies flung backward as a shockwave ripped through the chamber.
"Oh damn… looks like I misjudged. This battle isn't over for the poor Leviathan just yet," Ember responded, her excitement renewed.
