Fishman in One Piece

Chapter 9: Chapter 9

Chapter 9 The Initial Bloodline Fusion

Brett did not remain in Vegapunk's laboratory for a long time. Vegapunk examined his physique, extracted a sample of blood, and promptly sent him back.

Prolonged proximity was not advisable.

Upon opening the door and exiting the laboratory, Brett observed that Kizaru was absent, leaving only Rear Admiral Hager present.

Hager remained silent, guiding Brett back to the prison cell without uttering a word. Naturally, Brett had no comments for the Rear Admiral.

After escorting Brett back to the prison and securing the door with his own hands, Hager summoned a member of the navy.

"Go to my quarters and office and retrieve my bed and desk! "

From this point forward, he would not allow this troublesome fishman any further opportunities.

Brett was oblivious to the presence of an additional guard stationed outside his prison cell.

However, even if he were aware, he would remain indifferent. The prison was equipped with surveillance cameras monitoring his actions continuously; the presence of more personnel outside was inconsequential.

Brett sat on the edge of the bed, lost in thought.

'What a disappointment.'

He had struggled to breathe in the presence of Kizaru moments earlier.

The sense of helplessness he experienced during his previous arrest returned to him.

' I'm far too weak.'

This world contrasts sharply with his previous life. The vast blue seas of One Piece have never offered mercy. Only strength can withstand the fierce storms that rage upon these waters.

One must grow stronger.

At the very least, he requires enough strength to hold his ground and communicate confidently in front of a powerful opponent like Kizaru.

Brett inhaled deeply and resolved to commence training.

Without delay, he rose and began performing push-ups.

The body's potential requires time for growth and stimulation, yet Brett believed that engaging in active exercise would also accelerate this process.

Brett quickly began to sweat profusely.

Time passed gradually, with Brett engaging in only three activities each day: eating, sleeping, and exercising.

It seemed that the fused Kaido blood factor had indeed started to manifest its effects, as Brett perceived a gradual increase in his strength each day.

Power, physical endurance, and defense were all incrementally improving.

Brett had a desire to test his abilities; however, it wasn't suitable, at the moment. He's continually under the watchful eye of the Marine's surveillance.

He could only concentrate on fortifying his physique.

Aside from exercising, the only other significant task Brett performed was supplying Vegapunk with blood and hair when he depleted his materials.

As anticipated, Kizaru had not made another appearance before him, as though he were nonexistent.

As a prominent senior official within the Navy, Kizaru had increasingly critical matters to attend to.

This development is undoubtedly favorable for Brett, yet the sensation of being overlooked is somewhat irritating.

Nevertheless, despite Kizaru's disregard for Brett, a Rear Admiral named Haggar consistently obstructed the entrance to the cell. Brett was taken aback upon encountering the bed and desk he had positioned just outside the door for the first time.

The man provided him with no opportunity to evade him. Apart from in Vegapunk's laboratory, he maintained a constant watch over Brett.

While it may seem serious, it is, in reality, inconsequential. Ultimately, Brett spent the majority of his time in confinement, and the only instances requiring this man's close surveillance were during his trips to and from the laboratory.

Brett adapted swiftly to the man's presence.

Then, on one occasion when Brett went to give blood to Vegapunk as per his usual routine, Vegapunk informed him that Kizaru had been reassigned, and a new base commander, also from Navy Headquarters, had taken over at this facility—a Vice Admiral.

This was likely due to Kizaru's belief that having a Rear Admiral observing him was more than adequate.

Brett encountered the new Vice Admiral once during a visit to Vegapunk's laboratory.

This person was unmentioned in the original show. He appeared to be between sixty and seventy years of age, with entirely white hair and beard. He likely belonged to the same generation of marine as Sengoku and the others.

Possibly due to his advanced age, he showed no interest in Brett, and after that single meeting, they never crossed paths again.

Everything remained tranquil, and this state persisted for more than four months.

Then, unexpectedly, Vegapunk summoned Brett to the laboratory.

"Hahaha, the decryption has finally succeeded! "

Vegapunk's expression brimmed with excitement. "The blood factor of you fishmen is indeed far more intricate than that of humans! Even I took a considerable amount of time to unravel it."

Brett shared in the excitement, asking, "Does that mean we can now proceed to the critical phase? "

"You can begin selecting the bloodline of your choice." replied Vegapunk.

He guided Brett to a computer. As Brett gazed at the screen, he was greeted by an array of fish images.

"From the past to the present, all the fish that have existed in the sea—your ancestors—some of whom might also be our forebears—are displayed here! "

Listening to Vegapunk's words, Brett softly asked, "So, the past and the present converge at this moment, right? "

"No, not yet, but that moment is imminent! " Vegapunk beamed, unable to contain his joy.

"So, Doctor, can I select as many as I want? " Brett couldn't suppress his smile.

"Hahaha, that is certainly a clever notion, but it can't carry too many distinct blood factors." Vegapunk remarked with a grin. "However, there is no need to rush into any conclusions at this point. Among all the alternatives, select one to test . "

'Why does this sound so unreliable?'

Brett couldn't help himself from asking, "What do you mean by carrying it? "

"Simply understand that I have integrated the blood factor with my capability," Vegapunk replied nonchalantly.

It was entirely unclear. Nonetheless, it appears to be an exceptionally advanced technology that can carry blood factors.

While examining the numerous fish displayed on the screen, Brett questioned, "Doctor, what will you inform the government? "

Vegapunk shot a glance at Brett, "What, are you concerned that I will disclose this experiment? "

"Rest assured, I have no intention of inviting trouble," he remarked while stretching, nearly placing the back of his head on the floor, which made Brett worry about the integrity of his spine. "There is another synchronization project in progress, featuring a fish-human blood fusion experiment as well as a strategy to artificially develop warriors with abilities akin to those of the fish-man race. The government is quite keen on this. "

Brett posed, "Then why not simply enlist fish-men soldiers directly? "

Vegapunk sat up and yawned, "There is no need ask such foolish questions. "

Brett couldn't help but chuckle and shake his head, realizing it was indeed a foolish question.

"Doctor, I have made my choice. "

Brett gestured toward an image on the screen, "What about this one? "

Vegapunk approached to inspect it, saying, "Not bad; it's straightforward and modest yet sufficiently functional. "

"Allow me a week. "

As Brett eagerly anticipated, the week swiftly elapsed.

Brett was once again summoned into Vegapunk's laboratory.

Then, Vegapunk tossed him a fruit that appeared somewhat familiar.

"This--"

Brett stared at the fruit in his hand, astonished.

It was a vibrant red, featuring layers of scale-like skin.

'Isn't this the same fruit I had consumed previously?'

"Go ahead and eat it, young man," Vegapunk encouraged with a smile. "The bloodline you selected is contained within this fruit. "

Brett felt perplexed.

'What is going on?'
