Chapter 882: "One Kick" Float Begins to Shine

The float's lead capacity is large, and it quickly flips over after entering the water. Paired with short leaders, it can reach the bottom quickly. It feels like slipping into old Beijing cloth shoes—just a step in, lift your heel, and the shoes are on.

The characteristics of these floats perfectly match the fish activity today, so Wang Xiaomin proposed his idea.

Yue Feng nodded: "If you think it fits, then set it up as a backup! Wang Zhen just started, let's make the final decision before the second round ends!"

"Got it! I'll go to the empty pool right away to adjust the float!" Wang Xiaomin was a bit excited when Yue Feng agreed. He grabbed a rod with a line and float and headed to the empty third pit.

Soon enough, Wang Xiaomin came back with the rod.

"How's it going on the field? I've adjusted the float!"

Yue Feng: "Take a look yourself, stay steady, and don't rush!"

In the second round, the rhythm battle between Wang Zhen and Sun Hao was still ongoing.

Wang Zhen was surprisingly performing well, maintaining a fast rhythm throughout. Sun Hao was using the same technique and following along, with both getting hits here and there, showing almost no difference.

Over ten minutes into the competition, they had only caught about ten fish. The increasing speed in practice and earlier rounds didn't appear, and interfaces in the process became scarcer.

In contrast, when the double hook bait was in place, more bites appeared after the float reached the predetermined fishing point, causing both anglers on the field to instinctively tease the rod tip with each cast if no bites followed, before starting the next cast.

"Tsk tsk tsk, this fish activity was meant for this one-step float! Captain, don't you think if I swap in this float and artificially increase the hook distance on the sub-line a bit, it would perfectly address the current fish activity?"

Afraid Yue Feng would not understand, Wang Xiaomin lifted the end of his main line to show Yue Feng,

Oh boy, where regular sub-lines generally have a hook distance of about three, Wang Xiaomin's current sub-line on the main line has at least five or six hook distances. That's at least double the normal hook distance.

Yue Feng took a glance and asked, "How did you set the float?"

"Adjusted with single-hook bait! Looking for a state where the lower hook touches the bottom, and the upper hook is suspended, catering to both bottom bites and head-up bottom interfaces!"

"Alright, give it a try when you're up. Judging by today's fish activity, it's unlikely to get faster! This is actually good for us, understanding the fish activity can narrow the gap with those experienced anglers!"

"Got it! Will ensure to complete the task!" Wang Xiaomin was already visibly excited after hearing the captain's approval, even before entering the field.

This shows the difference in character between him and Wang Zhen,

Wang Zhen lacked confidence, anxiously entering the competition, whereas Wang Xiaomin viewed each entry as a chance to demonstrate himself and validate his understanding of the fish activity, with no trace of fear or nervousness in his excitement.

The competition continued, but they had basically figured out the fish activity, sparking a rhythm battle seemingly showing little change. Wang Zhen gritted his teeth and stayed intensely focused, neck-and-neck with Sun Hao.

Sun Hao hoped to regain ground when he entered but found after more than twenty minutes of silent fishing that his opponent's tenacity was far stronger than he anticipated.

The five-fish tail count advantage was not only unrecovered, but due to a mistake, extended to six, appearing overall to be a back-and-forth, neck-and-neck contest!

Under this strange rhythm, the second round quickly ended, and as it approached time to switch players, Sun Hao seized the chance to hook a double tail, leveling the count for that round as the referee whistled for a switch; soon, teammate deputy captain Guo Limin stepped in.

"Limin, be a bit cautious; these young ones are quite uncanny!" Sun Hao whispered upon handing over.

Guo Limin nodded calmly, taking the rod: "You go rest now, leave it to me!"

Soon, Guo Limin met his opponent for this round.

Wang Xiaomin entered with a spare rod, while the equipment used by his teammate in the second round was taken down directly.

Seeing this, the meticulous Guo Limin frowned slightly, keeping it in mind.

Soon, he noticed the peculiar float setup used by the opposing angler.

Normally, comprehensive float types are chosen, featuring a strong travel float with pointed ends and slightly thicker in the middle, offering travel and sensitivity.

Upon entering the water, the fishing setup's amplitude actions and such are generally harmonious, with high versatility to handle most fish activity.

But this young angler who just came up used an unusually short float, only about thirty centimeters long. Aside from short floats used for floating fishing, hardly anyone uses such short floats in regular competitions.

Short float, steel feet center of gravity lower, there's almost no travel to speak of. The double hook cast into the water flips over at lightning speed, reaching position in an extremely short time.

Both cast their first rods simultaneously, but Wang Xiaomin's float was already in place, while Guo Limin's just flipped and slowly moved downward with the travel amplitude!

What drove old Guo even crazier, came after.

Before his double hook reached the bottom, Wang Xiaomin's float made a gentle dip, a subtle small half-point movement.

Without hesitation, Wang Xiaomin raised his rod to strike the fish and hit it directly.

When unhooking and casting the second rod, oh boy, Guo Limin's first float finally stabilized at the fishing point.

Just as Wang Xiaomin said, this one-step float with large lead capacity and extremely short travel was almost perfectly aligned with today's target fish's bottom fishing activity and maximized the advantage of quick passing through the water column and aggressive bottom-fishing performance.

Since hitting the first fish, Wang Xiaomin's actions became more uninhibited. With fish calmly staying on the bottom without rising to chase bait, the piles of fish amassed in the nest after almost continuous rod casting battles in the first two rounds.

Wang Xiaomin once again benefited from his brother's effort, hitting peak performance right from the first cast.

One fish, two fish, three fish, while Guo Limin hadn't caught a single one, Wang Xiaomin hit three in three casts!

Seeing this, Yue Feng and Niu Ben breathed a sigh of relief.

Niu Ben: "Damn, Xiaomin, this guy's head is really sharp; this one-step float works wonders here!"

Yue Feng nodded: "The only downside is that the float's lead capacity is too large, making it a bit less sensitive! Look at the dawdling bite actions! I'll study it later, see if we can modify it while retaining the advantages, making it slightly more sensitive!"

Wang Zhen, how did it feel to face a certified master head-on?

Wang Zhen, still faintly sweating from the highly concentrated battle, yet the direct confrontation boosted his confidence exponentially, now full of assurance.

"What an overrated Third Level Competitive Fishing Master, nothing impressive about his skills! I think Xiaomin is even better! I'll practice a bit more, and next time I meet him, I'll dominate him!"

"Hahaha! See, this is how you build confidence! That's the spirit of young anglers; like Chairman Mao said, all reactionaries are paper tigers!"
