Chapter 6: Aftermath
David stood up, still processing everything that just happened in the last few minutes.
"…What the fuck… that's.. how…"
The realization suddenly hit him as he began to walk back towards the school, looking around as he noticed several of the nearby buildings were destroyed and multiple officers, firefighters and priests were deployed.
"…This System, My System. It was his wasn't it? The legends were true then? The Messiah who was nearly about to save the world before he tragically died? This was… his system?"
When the demons came to invade the world, they almost succeeded.
Even with the systems, the demons were much too powerful and outstripped any possible warrior or mage that came their way.
That was except for one man: the King of Stars. He rallied together a group of men and women known as the Amaranth and began to single-handedly slaughter every demon in their way.
It was a golden age, every day a new victory, a new conquest, no more did we have to fear demons.
The Amaranth even made their way towards the Chasm, entering into every single layer of it until they made it to the 9th where they faced the Demon King himself.
A legendary battle erupted between the party of heroes and the King, and yet… unlike every single fairy tale.
The party lost, and the Star King was slain in battle. However, his death was not in vain, as he managed to rupture and scar the Chasm, weakening it immensely that the invasion forces of the demons halted.
To this day, the survival of the world is owed to him and one of the largest organizations in the world focused on helping slaying and studying demons was named after the famous group.
"Yes. My previous master was the one that saved the world. Upon his death I laid dormant until finally you awakened me."
David found all of the students, staff and officials outside of the school campus, all of them currently being healed, treated and questioned accordingly.
"Why me? Did he choose me? What was he like? Can you tell me more about him?"
"I do not know why you were chosen. He left no instructions for who can inherit his system. As for who he was? He was the kindest and most bravest man I ever knew. It was a shame he died, and a greater shame that my memory of our adventures are currently incomplete out of this moment."
"Huh… shame… but I… I actually got it!"
"Yes. And you may never reveal it."
David stopped in his tracks, confused as all hell. "I-I thought that was just for a mission-"
"I have concluded that the reason that demons attacked was due to this System's return. If anyone catches that you own this System, more will come, and they will try as hard as possible to kill you."
"B-but how? How could they just know me if somebody else does?"
"That I do not know."
He sighed for a moment before rubbing his temple.
"How about if somebody asks me to open up my system?"
"I have made a Fake System output. Observe:"
Suddenly in front of him, a small screen emerged.
[C Rank Cleric]
David blinked for a few moments. "What?… a C rank… Cleric? But why though? Why am I not like A Rank or something?"
"The reason why I chose C Rank is because being a B or A Rank makes you stand out more, so would S and Z Rank, and E Rank is too obvious of a hiding spot, so to mask your identity, you are a C Rank Cleric."
"You know what… fair, at least I'm not E or D, C is respectable, it's the passing grade after all. And…"
Well, Mary was a Priestess, so at least this means they could spend more time together, so that made him happy.
"David!"
A mother's voice came echoing through the streets as Elizabeth bear hugged her son tightly. He quietly accepted his fate to be smothered by her.
"I-I'm fine, o-ow don't press too much…"
"Oh… good, you're alright, I thought I nearly lost you…"
Elizabeth was a middle aged woman, yet still beautiful for her age, with curly brown hair and a mature body.
She still received many suitors, and yet turned them all down. She worked at Nephesh as an engineer teaching as a professor in her off time.
"Y-yeah… I thought I was nearly lost too… are you alright?"
"I'm fine, luckily some mysterious figure came in and saved us all, he said that you were safe. Did you see him too?"
"Uh yeah, he's the one who dropped me off." He felt bad in lying to his mother, but it was for the best, making sure that she was safe was a top priority.
"O-oh thank goodness, we should think of him in our prayers tonight."
She quickly dusted him off as she smiled, finally relieved.
"Uh yeah sure thing. Have you seen Mary? Is she okay?"
Elizabeth nodded, patting her son's head as she pointed towards the other groups of students that are being herded by Mary and several other Priestesses and Priest class members.
"Good good… it looks like everything is fine."
David smiled, the danger was seemingly over, and nothing was left to be done, yet there was this strange unease that swept through his body.
He didn't realize what it was until he heard the whirling of blades in the sky accompanied by the sound of thrusters slowing down.
Suddenly in the air above the school manifested several massive air borne flat ships the size of a small village.
From it came forth helicopters and smaller planes with the colors of white and gold that descended down to the ground like angels to the earth.
Out from the helicopters and planes were men and women wearing pristine white robes, all emitting a sanctifying aura that blessed the land itself, removing all impurities.
There was no doubt about it. They were the Amaranth.
All at once, a wave of relief washed over everyone as wounds started to clothes and exhaustion was removed.
Murmuring whispers began to pour out of the crowd. Everyone kept on talking or theorizing what exactly just happened.
"Why did they not come sooner?"
"There were demons on the street too, what's going on here?"
"Is nowhere safe?"
That was until one of the Amaranth members, that being a beautiful woman with long white hair, green eyes wearing the outfit of a priestess whilst holding a golden sword.
She raised a finger to her neck, whispering. "Enhance."
"Calm Down!" The woman's voice echoed throughout the crowd, causing them all to stop talking at once.
"Greetings people of Ascalon. My Name is Alexandra. I along with my fellow colleagues have come in response to the sudden Chasm Entrance opening up. Forgive our tardiness as this occurrence was not simply from this site, but we ourselves were ambushed."
She looked around, carefully inspecting the crowd before continuing, noticing how her presence has stirred up interest.
"It's her… the A Rank Saint Alexandra… she's really here."
David couldn't believe it himself, no one here did, a Saint came all the way here to aid them all, it was a dream come true.
A Ranks were exceedingly rare, and having one in your city was akin to having a world renowned celebrity walk in, but this day was just full of surprises
In suspense, she continued.
"However, we fought them off and we are now here to ensure that no further entrances are opened. Please evacuate the area orderly as we investigate the cause. We hope you are able to work with us to fight back against these foul creatures!"
Alexandra raised her golden sword to the air. "To Hope and Glory!"
Everyone roared along with her, raising their fists into the air.
After such a show, many of the men and women moved away as they were ushered out by the rest of the Amaranth forces.
However, all of the students, staff and everyone else who had been part of the demonic ambush was rounded up by the open fields of the school.
It was there that Mary finally saw David again, running towards and hugging him as she took a deep breath.
"You're safe! I thought I would never see you again… how did you get out alive? Was it that mysterious stranger? The one in all the armor that helped you?"
David made an awkward smile and nodded along. "Yeah, that's right… he did yup. How about you? Were you saved by him as well?"
"Yeah, I didn't get his Name but, whoever he was, I hope he knows that we have him to thank for our survival."
"…I think he already knows that."
Mary then lit up as she got closer to David. "Oh! I nearly forgot! What's your system?"
"O-oh yeah my system well that's uh here!"
He then opened up his System, and to his relief, it was the fake one that Thamiel provided for him.
"Oh? A Cleric? And see you're not E Class at all! That's wonderful!"
She hugged him, sighing in relief as he awkwardly laughed. "Yeah, I'm definitely not E Class."
While they were having their moment, Alexandra began to speak out again. "Everyone! Line up accordingly and into the planes and helicopters. Do not worry, you will be provided with comforts all we ask is your cooperation and your knowledge of the event!"
As she said that, helicopters and planes landed onto the field, opening up their doors as many Paladins in shining armor exited wielding swords and shields.
"I hope we can all cooperate to get to the truth of the situation at hand. Now then, come along everyone."
