28Chapter 2

"How is he doing?"

At her prompt, the nerd with shiny black hair all but jumped in place, freezing and then slowly pushing away from the window he'd been all but kissing, smoothing out his lab-coat and then turning towards her with a stoic expression.

Idiot!

As if she didn't just see his drooling reflection against the polished glass! Or scan his mind…

"The subject is a wonder, my lady," the man said, pushing up his glasses with one finger. "In fact, it's doing remarkable!" the nerd made a grand sweeping gesture as he turned, pointing towards the bed on the other side of the glass, and upon which The Idiot rested.

"My lady," the man asked, turning towards her and causing her to tear her gaze away from the unconscious man.

"Yes?"

"Are you sure the…man is not a monster?" the nerd asked, glasses growing foggy as he begun to pant and hyperventilate. "Why, with the abilities he's been exhibiting, if I were allowed to…study him—"

Her eyes narrowed and a scowl found its way on her face as she began to hover, a green aura manifesting around her and the man paling as she rose until they were eye to eye.

She opened her mouth but—

"Steve? Are you babbling about stupid things again?" A female voice sounded over the intercom and then sighed. "He is isn't he…Apologies Ms. Tatsumaki, Steve is just…special," the technician's voice on the other end said, voice weary. And a quick brush against the nearby woman's mind showed her words to be true. This wasn't the first time she had to curb her partner's impulses.

Tatsumaki huffed, but still did not land as she pulled back from the sweating man and crossed her arms.

"Idiot! How many times must I tell you to check the patient's files before opening your big dumb mouth!"

And even if Tatsumaki did not wish to do so, the nearby technician was all but screaming her thoughts.

'And thank god that Tornado is one of the more reasonable S-ranks!' The woman's thoughts held a distinct mix of terror and relief. 'Who knows what some of the other nutjobs would have done if you said something like that about someone they personally brought in!'

The green-haired beauty's lips quirked upwards a tad. Even if a touch of irritation flashed through her being at being 'merely' one of the 'reasonable ones'. She was the calmest and kindest member in S class! Who did the technician think was better than her?!

…It was Silver Fang, wasn't it?

Fair.

"Unaffiliated Hero Yuha is very much just that, a Hero, even if a rather weak one, and how many times must I tell you not to make aspirations based on someone's appearance?"

Well, the irate woman was right in that the unconscious Idiot was weak!

Even if he had his heart in the right place.

"Yes honey, sorry honey!" aaand the nerd was currently bowing towards the nearby speaker.

Tatsumaki's irritation with the man vanished only to be replaced with another feeling entirely as she swiveled her eyes away from the man and towards the Idiot she had saved.

"Not in public and not in front of Ms. Tornado you fool!" came the embarrassed squeak. And would you look at that? Tatsumaki also just lost her capacity for hearing!

She focused on Yuha, frowning and then huffed and shook her head.

The man's mind remained blank, as if were a black still lake where nothing lived. But it wasn't so, she was sure of it! After all, before he'd fallen unconscious, she caught glimpses of thoughts out of the Idiot's mind. But now…now he rather reminded her of coma patients, his whole mind seemingly shut down.

And yes, if she so wished, it'd be child's play to blast away the 'lake' and reach into the mind below, but what for?

Her curiosity over the attack that drew her attention and saved the man's life could wait.

But…

A small smirk stretched across Tornado's mouth as she slipped a hand in between the creases of her black dress and withdrew her smartphone, hurriedly typing and sending a message.

After all it was her fault Tatsumaki even knew as much as she did about this Idiot in the first place!

And given what she'd seen so far? The Idiot would fit right in.

The blazing of sirens accompanied by the lights all around them shifting to a dull red made her focus away from the Idiot and the kowtowing nerd, the latter being quick to rise.

"Ms. Tornado!" the panicking voice in her ear, courtesy of the tiny transmitter caused her to sigh.

"Yes? What is it?"

"B-city has been d-destroyed by a gigantic monster, one that is on its way here!"

"And? Send someone to deal with it."

"We can't! All the S-rank who could reach it in time are otherwise occupied. And so, if you could please—"

She pinched her nose and let out a frustrated growl.

"Fine, I'm going!"

It would seem that her brief break was over.

"Yes! Thank you—"

"Shut it."

"Yes Ma'am, Sorry Ma'am!"

After all, a Hero's work is never done…

Why?

Making no attempt to move, Yuha, coming to terms with the fact that he was still amongst the living and would get to cross fists with strong opponents again as well as potentially clap Marika's cheeks, chose to focus on another matter entirely.

Why did the good Doctor place the sound of Windows XP shutting down as my brain's startup sound? Why?! I just…arghh!

He let out an internal sigh, still not moving.

Let it go, Yuha, madmen doing madmen things is all…

Instead, the man, took a quick stock of his situation.

Nothing felt out of place and he couldn't feel anything, like say a strap holding him down on the cold surface he was resting upon.

Now granted, the sound of sirens blazing was a bit concerning, yes. But, given the fact that they continued to do so for a few moments after he came to and no one barged in…wherever this was to apprehend and or stun him? It had likely little to do with him.

Something was probably on fire or another apocalypse was taking place.

In other words, perfectly normal for this hellhole.

So, and with his computer reporting that his internal reserves were full and Yuha was in top form, he decided to open his eyes.

Ok, this is some high-tech stuff. Indeed, the room he was in, from the ceiling full of lights that made him blink out spots from his eyes, to the smooth black walls made out of god knows what and full of screens and cabinets flush against them and to the beds and gurneys all around him and to the two way mirror showing a panicking man outside.

Ah, some sort of hospital? But judging by the black polish on the walls? Odds are good this is the Hero Association, so…

Doing his best to emulate All Might's smile, Yuha pushed himself upwards, glad to have his arm back, and swung his feet on the cool ground, standing. While within the confines of his mind he hastened to put to use what he'd learned in one of the Seminars back in Basic on how to defend against mind readers.

After all, given that he didn't have any defenses or the budget to buy them and wouldn't have it for some time still given, even if went into a capturing spree, due to the contract he agreed to…

Yeah, it would have to do.

But, at the very least, his new physiology, made all but the most esoteric defenses redundant until he got out of here… If he was a bit cautious that is. And as for the mind readers infesting this place?

Huh, this seems easier than I remembered?

And indeed, unlike back in the Seminar, he found that he could perform the technique with far more ease. Maybe the computer handling part of the load helped?

And as for the drawbacks his Teacher insisted his counterfeit version was full off? What did Snape know? He'd show the man!

"Ah! He's awake!" a female voice came over the intercom and the panicking nerd outside paused, before turning and, smoothing out his robe entered the room through the door.

"Mmh, yes, welcome back Mr. Yuha," the no doubt mad scientist said, creepy grin in place as he pushed his opaque glasses up.

Causing the muscles in the back of Yuha's neck to tense, still, he could no doubt paste the nerd if it came to it. So, with his standard 'All Might smile' in place, he crossed his arms and inclined his head.

"Thank you, now, if you could please be kind enough to tell me where I am and how I'm still alive…"

The nerd huffed. "Why you're within the Headquarters of the Hero Association of course!"

Shit.

"And as to how you're still alive? Well, Ms. Tornado saved you and brought you here and then we gave you a helping hand, but really aside from a small boost, your remarkable physiology did the rest."

Watching the man shudder like Megumin did around her stuff when thinking about explosions almost made the smile slip off Yuha's face.

"W-would you perhaps be interested in a few e-experiments—"

Yuha's arm rose with blinding speed!

Placing it on the nerd's shoulder he gave a gentle squeeze as he shook his head.

"Alas, I can't do that my good man, for you see…" he patted the man on the shoulder as he struggled to think of something fitting. "A Hero's work is never done!" and with a touch of Ki, his teeth glinted. "Now, if you could point me towards the exit? There are people to save and I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with the layout of this magnificent building?"

The nerd's shoulders slumped.

"B-but, my experiments? Meatheads, all of you…"

"Ignore the idiot," the tired woman sounded over the intercom again. "Now, as for how to get out Mr. Yuha—"

Listening to the woman, he nodded and then stepped out of the room.

"My thanks brave citizen!" he said in lieu of farewell, opting to ham it up again, for good measure.

Luckily, the unseen woman's words proved true, and soon enough Yuha found himself near the exit of the gigantic building. But as he stepped outside, the enormous sliding doors closing and before he could sigh in relief…

Red klaxons blazed once more, the noise reaching outside with enough force to make him wince. How did the people inside stand it?

"The hell is going on?" he murmured as he sweeped his gaze left and right, making sure to bring his power to bear in preparation.

And as he did, an errant though struck him.

Ah right, I almost bit it back there. In his mind he giggled like a schoolgirl, even if on the outside he stood tall and at the ready, scowl in place as the ground both near and afar begun to rumble and shake, some of the windows of nearby buildings starting to shatter. And given a big part of me is Saiyan…Zenkai bitches!

He did feel stronger as well now that he payed attention.

With a tiny flex of will and a mental command, his trusty computer brought up what he asked.

Causing him to stare at the reading.

And stare some more.

Oh that's some bullshit—

"Heh, you're open~"

Eyes flying wide, Yuha spun around, watching death approach in the form of a black fist.

28Chapter 3

To all of those rolling for her majesty Morgan in a few hours? Good luck fellow persons of culture...

The roars of the limo's engine, powerful and so similar to that of an angry tiger felt almost…fitting.

A small quake shook the ground, making her scowl as she gazed outside.

After all, her sister was once again, the source of her ire.

For Tatsumaki had not only stumbled, and saved, upon a potential target for her group, with the same ease Fubuki could swat a fly, but, she'd then had the gall to summon her like a dog by waving a tasty treat in front of her!

The car shook as another tremor rocked the ground and the black-haired beauty gritted her teeth, turning furious eyes to the front.

And causing her mousy driver to squeak and turn stiff, the girl grabbing the wheel with white knuckled hands.

"S-sorry, Ma'am, it's just, the quakes and the ground make it kinda hard…" the girl chuckled weakly as Fubuki blinked and with her scowl lessening a tad, focused upon the girl. "B-but don't worry! We'll be there in no time—"

She huffed and shook her head, causing her short hair to sway a bit.

"I'm not angry at you Lily, I just have a lot on my mind, that's all," she said, offering the girl with the thin highlight in the middle of her hair a small smile. Causing the girl to squeak and flush, followed by Lily turning her eyes back on the road ahead.

But the girl's thoughts and mood were noticeably more upbeat.

Unlike Fubuki's own.

Curse you, sis! She growled within the privacy of her own mind. Impotent to do much else. I will surpass you! She vowed yet again, and a small cruel smirk flashed across her face for an instant so brief that it was almost like it had never been at all. After all, numbers have a quality of their own!

Indeed, and Tatsumaki taunting her with Yuha was but another in her sister's series of mistakes.

No doubt, her sister being of the opinion that no amount of fakes and weaker copies could defeat the original.

But, even a weakling such as the kitten hero, now that he'd at last shown spirit?

Fubuki crossed her arms, pushing up her sizable bust hidden under the confines of her skin tight black dress and smiled.

In this, at least, you have no hope of beating me, Sis~

Even someone like that could be useful under her gentle guidance.

She fought the urge to cackle, for her almost obsessive habit of checking up on every newcomer in the Hero scene as well as the career 9-5 ones was paying dividends once again. Yet another potential gem discovered and in need of…guidance

Plans flashed across her mind while outside, the limo sped past building after building, with Lily doing her best to keep the car on the straight and narrow. Having to combat sudden cracks manifesting on the ground and the, by now, neigh constant tremors.

She paid it little heed. After all, her subordinates were handpicked and properly…trained, and thus, she trusted them all.

The brunette hummed. She'd start by hinting, repeatedly, that the man should at last take the exam and become a proper member, and then, if he kept this sudden bout of heroism up, recommend, he join her team.

"Ma'am."

Lily's voice drew her from her recollection and Fubuki blinked, catching the girl's gaze reflected on the front mirror.

"We'll be there in short order," the girl said, and indeed, just as she did, the limo broke clear from the surrounding vistas of tall apartment building after apartment building and following the swerve of the avenue, the horizon cleared, revealing the Hero's Association headquarters up ahead. Standing tall and singular amidst a sea of—

The world exploded.

"Eek!"

And as the road and the bridge up ahead vibrated and shattered, Fubuki's world slowed and her heart quickened its beat.

Thrusting her arms forward and bringing her considerable will to bear, her white coat billowing as a corona of green power radiated from her form, her thoughts sinked into the limo's metal, into its leather, into every part of the frame and even Lily's body, and right before the crumbled pieces of tarmac mixed with cement from a nearby building and a car or two would hit…

A bubble of pure reinforced will formed, unshakable and unmoving like the bones of the earth.

Bones which were promptly strained to their very limit, as while they weathered the first hit with ease, and as Fubuki pushed away the debris covering them and obscuring their view out of the now stopped car, the apartment building to their right melted.

But right before it did, Fubuki thought she caught sight of a familiar form slamming into it, one cradling a metal bat.

Wait, is that—

But unfortunately, she barely managed to blink before a monstrous dark figure with a crown like a dark sun and trailing after the man slammed into the building whose very foundations and walls were in the process of melting from the sheer kinetic energy impacted.

A figure radiating power. Power enough to make Fubuki quiver in terror as the gigantic being raised its arms and the cracks and lines running all over its body pulsed.

"Hooraaah!" and then the three-eyed creature promptly slashed against the building with each of its four magma like blades with a speed that all Fubuki managed to catch despite enhancing herself to her limit were but a series of trailing angry red lines.

Causing the building to explode and the ensuing recoil to break Fubuki's barrier, making her black out for a second from the sheer force, but a second was all that was needed to send the limo tumbling and skidding to the side and off the bridge, careening to the darkness below.

A few minutes earlier:

The neigh instinctive activation of Kaio-ken turned a deadly blow into a mere powerful punch, one that even though he failed to dodge, with the boost times 5 conferred to all his attributes, Yuha managed to at least raise his arms and defend against said blow.

Nonetheless, the punch still packed enough force to send him flying and make his forearms smart somewhat fierce as he dug a ditch, ruining the previously pristine square tiles surrounding the entrance to the Hero's association.

"Hoo~"

Tucking his legs close, and curving his back just a touch, he kicked, the motion drawing him upwards and shaking his arms, trying to will the pins and needles to stop, Yuha glared at the newcomer while the red-aura continued to blaze around his body.

"A surface dweller who can withstand our punch? Surprising~" the dark skinned creature mused, who, if not for the entirely alien head could pass for an overly buff bodybuilder.

The creature retracted its smoking punch, and cocked its tube like head, rotating it somewhat to the side, the red dots within the depths of its dark maw, behind glistening teeth, beginning to glow.

"But, I do wonder, can you do it again?" it asked, and the rumbling which Yuha had previously dismissed as unimportant intensified. And through newly formed cracks, more creatures, no doubt kin to the first emerged, each of them buff, of varying height and all of them radiating an aura of danger.

Their appearance, coupled with their not inconsiderable strength, caused old memories from a different world to resurface, and when he remembered that Saitama was no longer here…

"Hell, Subterraneans," Yuha cursed, preparing for the fight of his life.

'Thump!'

Even as a small, or not so much, part of him was quickly growing excited at the prospect of worthy opponents.

…The rest, and rather less insane part of him, was busy badgering the battle-junkie part, trying to make it stop and see reason. They should flee, not engage into a potentially lethal fight dammit!

"We are Earthlings!" the creature roared, and exploded towards Yuha, who barely had time to widen his eyes before the creature was upon him, swinging a meaty fist down towards him.

Only this time, he was prepared, and so, with Kaio-ken blazing, he managed to dodge to the side, snapping off a quick punch to the creature's ribs as well as a kick to the outer side of its knee.

"Gkh!"

Making it grunt and lower some as Yuha, taking the opportunity, let himself fall towards the ground and into a series of back-flips backwards, buying him a few seconds of time and space both.

His breathing came quick, and it had little to do with the strain of the technique currently coursing through his veins and whole body.

After all, he was off sterner stuff than a mere Saiyan, and so, even if he couldn't utilize it to its fullest extent yet, at a mere times 5, he could hold it with little issue. At least if the computer's projections were any indication.

And speaking off the computer…

His eyes once again glimpsed the still visible number.

14.

He wanted to rage at the injustice of it all, but he couldn't. Not really. Despite how much he wished to do so.

He nearly died to get that Zenkai you know! But still…at its heart, the Zenkai was a Saiyan's evolved measure to defend against a stronger opponent—he did not wish to imagine what beings forced such an evolutionary pressure on the creatures that one day would evolve to become the Saiyans he knew off.

"Hmf! So you have some fight in you," the creature he'd kicked spat, standing tall once more, slapping some nonexistent dirt of its chest and shoulder. "Perhaps this wont' be entirely boring after all, eh boys?"

The mocking laughter of its fellows, who were thankfully still hanging back caused Yuha to scowl as he settled into Vegeta's combat stance, fingers curled and all and with a silent command and push with unfamiliar—and yet oh so familiar—instincts pushed his technique up another level, the aura around him flaring slightly more and at last, causing Yuha's muscles to start to bulge.

So, he wasn't immune to that side-effect then, merely more resilient than Goku? Good to know.

Smirking, for a moment, the fingers on his left hand grow lax and formed a blade, and offering the upturned palm towards the creature, he made a beckoning gesture.

"Why you!" the creature roared, incensed and with looping strides charged towards him.

Good, an angry opponent was a manageable opponent.

Weaving between the Subterraneans' blows with far more ease than before, his thoughts once again turned to the mater of Zenkai. And how, at its heart, the ability was an adaptive response, yes. But one dependent on the strength of the enemy, and more importantly, the strength of the person undergoing it. And so, much as he hated it, the Zenkai he underwent was proportionately huge, but, given his power, or rather lack off, it made sense that he did not undergo something like Goku's on Namek, or the more or less constant micro Zenkai the earth raised Saiyan and Vegeta underwent in the Universal tournament. And—

He smirked, an opening!

"Gkh!" His punch digged inside the creature's stomach, and for a quarter of a second his technique blazed to the 7'th stage, before returning to its previous level, but the boost to strength was enough to allow Yuha's arm to dig in and through the being's chest.

And then, in a reversal of his previous fight, it was his opponent who flew off his fist, smashing into the surprised circle of his fellows, the group hastening to capture him.

"Oi! Oi! Snap out of it, c-come on—"

Only, unlike Yuha, a blow through the heart was as fatal for the Subterraneans as it would be to any other race it would seem.

"Hear me oh invaders!" he proclaimed in a loud voice, drawing the groups gaze away from their dead comrade and onto him. "The surface is under my protection!" he proclaimed and smashed a thumb against his chest.

For much as he wanted to run and hide in a place where no one could bother him until he grew strong enough to survive most anything?

Someone might be recording everything after all, and so, he needed to maintain his Heroic image lest he be labeled a coward, or worse, a villain like Garou from that future that would never come to be if he had anything to say about it.

And so, he had to play his role. For even if he wasn't labeled a villain, a coward could potentially prove to be just as bad. He wanted to use the Association's resources to grow stronger and survive dammit! Marika's thighs beckoned!

…The fact that Tatsumaki might look at him with disdain, and not the good kind before squashing him like a bug, also played a role, yes.

So, no, the bloodthirsty part of him could shove it, they couldn't, shouldn't enjoy this fight—

The sounds of cracking pavement and flexing muscles reached his ears from all around him, while behind and next to the group in front of him, more fissure and rends in the earth formed, from within which even more Subterraneans started pouring out by the droves.

"Hmf, is that so?" said a deep baritone voice, and at the feet of the dead Subterranean a fist broke free from the ground, followed by a massive specimen jumping out of the ground.

"Aniki!"

"He's here, he's here!"

"We've won!"

The jubilant cries caused Yuha to tense.

'Thump!"

Even as the pressure coming off the newcomer, who landed with a majestic pose, flexing every muscle of his body, caused a silly grin to appear on Yuha's face.

"Hear me then oh Hero, and know your doom has come!" the stranger proclaimed, thrusting a meaty hand towards him and pointing at Yuha with a dark finger, the eyes within the pyramidal head, seeming to shine bright. "Both for daring to harm one of my precious comrades and due to your luck in facing me. One off our king's lieutenants!"

A lieutenant? Crap that isn't good—

But the newcomer didn't give him any more time to ponder this, for with an explosive kick, the lieutenant crossed the interim distance in a blink, and despite all his boosted strength, Yuha's attempt at a dodge failed.

"Argh!"

And with a pained scream, he flew backwards, digging yet another trench into the ground, tumbling, rolling until at last he came to a stop, and with his instincts screaming at him leaped to his feet and away from the hole he'd just dug.

Sparing but a quick glance towards his torn left arm and the ugly bruise forming on his left side where he'd barely managed to divert the impact.

Only, despite his wariness, it would seem that the lieutenant hadn't followed.

The man, opting instead to stand with his arms crossed across his wide barrel like chest.

"Hmf, is that all you got, surface dweller?" the creature asked with a scoff. "It would seem my little brother's last transmission badly overestimated you."

A transmission? His eyes widened Of course, that would explain how their King knew where to appear when they faced Saitama…

But that helped him little in this case.

"Once we're done dealing with you here, then I can return to the other fronts," the man said and, glancing backwards at his cheering comrades as well as those constantly cropping up all around them, some even behind Yuha. "Fear not my friends!" the man said, raising a clenched fist to the sky. "The invasion proceeds as planned! Already 10% off the surface dwellers have been cleansed! And soon, all of Earth will be ours again! No longer will we have to suffer!"

Cheers went up.

Not that Yuha paid that much heed to the lieutenant's words.

I need more strength. He thought, eyes fixed and senses at the ready for the barest hints of motion from either the newcomer or its kin. The 'lower caste' I can sorta handle…one by one, but I can't risk pushing Kaio-ken to stage 10 for it will turn me into a sitting duck, and even stage 6 feels like every inch of my body is filled with burning needles. It would that Rei-sensei was right when she forced us to undergo pain training, I really must kiss and thank her when we meet again.

"Do you hear that, surface dweller?" the man asked, as he basked in the adulation of his peers. "I carry with me and fight for the hopes and souls of my people, can you say the same?"

If I push it to 7…I could probably sustain it for a few minutes if I pushed it, but, even so, I doubt it would be enough, oh, if only I could actually go Super Saiyan… he cursed again and lamented his pathetic power level, for, even his chimeric version of the powerup required a base power level in the hundreds of thousands by the computer's reckoning, and he didn't have that. Hell, even Trunks stupid bulk up would— He paused. Wait a minute…

The scowl dropped from his face, only to be replaced by a radiant grin.

"Oya? Have you accepted your death?" the lieutenant asked.

Hell no, but with this? He might have a way through that didn't entail hightailing out of here, or at least attempting to do so. And so? Time to ham it up.

"No, but your words made me realize that you are no mere beasts nor malcontents. And for my prior assumptions I apologize," he said…right as behind the lieutenant and his gathered crew, with a mighty groan, interlocking bars of metal slithered over and across the gates of the Association.

There truly was no help coming, huh?

"And thus I can do naught but acknowledge your heartfelt words! Yours is a worthy goal true, but under different circumstances we might have been able to come to an equally beneficial agreement for both sides. But…" A wild grin split Yuha's face as his already bulging muscles expanded further. "This is my home and I fight for my people as well!" he said and the pressure radiating from him grew, courtesy of Master Roshi's technique pushed to 50%.

Enough to double his base power before the Kaio-ken but not pushed to the extent of slowing him down.

"So, have at thee, knave!" he said and jumped into the fray.

"Bold words!" growled the lieutenant and met him in a clash of forearms, the resulting force of their impact forming a small crater underneath them.

"Eek!

"A-aniki!"

And the small gales throwing backwards some of the nearby Subterraneans.

"Gkh!"

But, as for the lieutenant himself.

"Hoo? What's wrong, where's your previous bravado?" Yuha asked, grin in place as he pushed against the struggling creature. "Come on, we both fight for our people here." More like for Tatsumaki's ass and the chance to cross arms with strong opponents in the future—survive! For the chance to survive dammit!

"So, put your back into it!" he roared and with another push, shoved the man away, sending him tumbling backwards.

"Gkah!"

"Aniki!"

"You!"

"How dare you hurt Aniki!"

Ignoring the jeers and cries of the crowd, and watching as the man rose on struggling feet, Yuha opted instead to glance at his missing arm, and with his current power? Even if it wasn't truly 'his', he could at least pull a page out of Boros' book.

And so, directing his energy to the stump…

"Hiyaaa!" he roared and in an explosion of green goo, his arm appeared again, followed by Yuha flexing the restored limb in the lieutenant's direction.

"There, good as new," he said, grin in place even if he felt a touch of strain in his Ki for the stunt.

And yet, it mattered little, for he could afford to do this a few times more if it came down to it. After all, once sleeved into his new body and the vast data stores within the computer confirming his hypothesis, Yuha found that Ki was indeed more similar to a 'muscle' then say, a battery.

Namely, firing off a Ki-blast, or a Kamehameha, or augmenting his form, did not drain his store in one go, but rather, like someone going to the gym and hitting the weights, Yuha's 'max power level' was akin to the gym bro's ability to hit their current max.

And so, while he couldn't do indefinitely, akin to a gym-bro, he definitely had a few 'sets of 8' in the bank before he'd had to lower his weight, i.e. his power level would start to drop.

"Gkh! I will not lose!" the lieutenant cried and rushed him again, caring little for the black bruise on his forearm.

Sadly for the man, whereas before he might have had a chance, now, and courtesy of the scaling inherent in Ki, they were worlds apart.

And even if Yuha wasn't moving through a comparatively frozen world, the lieutenant was still slow enough for him to duck under the man's blow and then, place an open palm on the man's chest.

"Wha—"

Pink eyes met dark red orbs.

"It was a good fight," Yuha said and then, a pale beam exploded out of his palm, carving a deep hole through the lieutenant's chest and pushing his lifeless body away, with the man, even in death, somehow slamming a closed fist against Yuha's head as he was thrown away.

"Aniki!"

Wipping a thin trail of purple blood away from his nose, Yuha nodded in a show of apparent respect.

"Be glad, he fought well," he offered to the gathered monsters.

Even if on the inside he felt rather different, for the most part at least.

Holy shit! What was with that punch? How? Is the fucker their version of Cu? If he gets up, I'm hightailing it out of here screw the consequences and—

The seemingly dead man twitched and so did Yuha, muscles tensing as he prepared to bolt.

But luckily, it would seem his fear was unfounded, for the Heroic Subterranean remained dead.

What was less lucky was the fact that the man's seeming movement came as a result of six arms breaking to the surface and, carefully cradling the dead body, retracting it under the ground.

And, but a few seconds later, the source of the limbs became apparent, as three even more buff Subterraneans jumped out of the ground.

This is getting ridiculous! Did…Did I make a mistake by taking Marika's offer? Her thighs and the woman's scent flashed through his mind, which was then coupled with the adrenaline and the joy he was currently experiencing. Naaah.

The trio taking posses reminiscent off—

No.

"Hmf, to be think there would be a Surface Dweller strong enough to defeat our little brother?" the muscle bound creature on the left said.

"Truly, Kittonious was the weakest amongst us, but our Captain was the best of us!" the one in the middle cried.

"We acknowledge your strong will, Hero, but you will die for taking him away from us," the one on the right said with a sibilant hiss.

No…

But as much as he wished to deny it, the budget pillarstodes were a thing. Their muscles even glistening with oil.

Yet, he didn't dare voice any of his inner thoughts. Instead offering them a stoic nod. As he rushed through his memory stores, trying to find the appropriate person to emulate.

"Then come at me, all of you, I would test your conviction oh Earthen brothers! Let us fight for the right to survive!"

…perhaps Pandora's Actor was the wrong choice.

"Fool!" the one on the left cried. "You're courting death!" he cried and then, with a colletive cry that shook the earth, all the subterraneans around Yuha, rushed towards him.

Oh shit! I didn't think they'd take me up on—

He barely had time for his eyes to widen before the wild melee was upon him.

And despite it all, having to fend off blow after blow, dance between kicks, punches and elbows, turning grievous wounds into mere glancing ones as he sunk deeper and deeper into his inherited combat instincts.

Yuha loved it.

"Gkh!"

But, even though with Roshi's bulking technique he was heads and shoulders above the Subterranean 'rabble', quantity had a quality of its own, and even worse? The trio's words?

Were quickly proving true.

They truly were stronger than the first Lieutenant.

…He refused to use the other name.

Nothing to it then. He thought with gritted teeth, as another punch sent him flying into another part of the ever growing dogpile. Times 7 it is.

And with a roar, the wild scarlet aura blazing around him grew more, as did his muscles and then grew again as he pushed Roshi's technique to 60% and immediately knew that his speed dropped some, yet it was still enough to match the lieutenants.

I can go no further than this. He mused with gritted teeth, even as a punch from a nearby lieutenant failed to budge his head, and Yuha smiled with bloody teeth.

"What?"

"Shit! He's grown stronger again!" cried another.

"Quickly, together then brothers!" hissed the brains of the trio, and jumped kick Yuha.

"Gkh!" Making him grunt and wince.

"See, he's not invincible!" he shouted and the battle descended into a dizzying frenzy once more.

Dammit! Yuha growled with frustration inside his mind. The rubble are all but inconsequential right now, if I could have some breathing room and tackle the lieutenants one by one, or even two at a time… he failed to duck a punch, and it sent him flying into the mass of bodies, the weaker Subterraneans quick to stop him and lock their limbs around his own, pinning him in place and landing, comparatively weak blows unlike the ones thrown by the Lieutenants right after.

Gkh! If only I could have more power! He growled, and even the rational vestiges of his brain cursed, for even if he wanted to use Instant Transmission to get out of here, he'd need a Ki signal to look onto. But, first, he'd need the requisite base power to use the ability, and he lacked that.

"Graaah!" he shouted, and pushing Kaio-ken to the 8'th stage for but an instant, vented a lot of energy in the form of a circular explosive bubble.

Maiming, killing, and pushing a lot of the subterraneans away.

"I…won't…lose!" he growled, as he lay there panting, falling to one knee before quickly jumping upwards, struggling to remain standing as the sensation suffusing his body was similar to what he'd felt back when he was mortal after a particularly grueling workout. The feeling similar to the drain one experienced at the end of full marathon.

"Hmf! Impressive," the brains of the trio said as he jumped to his feet and crossed his arms. "Your strength is most impressive, yes, but, how long can you keep this up?"

And much as it burned, Yuha had to admit that the man's words held a kernel of truth, a quick glance at his powerlevel confirming it. He barely had another move like this in the tank and then he'd be dry and as defenseless as a babe.

In fact he was barely hanging on to state 7 as it were.

How the hell would he get out of this he had no idea—

"Heh, good job holding out as long as you did rookie," a cocky voice said, and Yuha could do nothing but pant and blink as from the sky a shadow fell and materialized in the form of a sharp faced young man dressed in a dark school uniform, the man holding a metal bat. "Now, let me lend you a hand," the man said, flashing him a smirk over his shoulder.

"Metal Bat!"

"The very same, now, are you just going to stand there or are you going to help me clear up this rabble?"

Yuha grinned.

28Chapter 4

With Metal Bat by his side, the battle begun to turn.

Not in an instant, no.

But, nonetheless, to Yuha this no longer felt like a doomed battle.

"Hiyaa!"

Ducking under one of the Subterranean's blows, this one so slow to his current boosted state, unlike the lieutenants, Yuha grinned.

'Clank!'

And watched as the creature's upper torso burst like an overripe melon, courtesy of the young man's blow, the man rather bringing to mind a more delinquent Josuke.

"Heh, fell for it. Sucker." Metal Bat said, before turning away, already in the process of swinging his arm, and swatting another monster that thought to take advantage of the apparent, quite false, opening.

It was good to work with a professional, and his rusty, implanted, fighter instincts quite liked it too.

"Grrr."

At the sound, and with a muted sense screaming inside his head. Yuha, barely having risen to his feet, leaned forward and with a burst of Ki from the soles of his feet performed a forward roll, a mighty black fist only managing to scrape against his sole.

Pushing with his arms against the ground, causing spiderwebs to form, he jumped upwards, his feet catching a Subterranean by the neck, a crack echoing as he flung the unfortunate creature away and Yuha landed on the ground again, sinking into Vegeta's combat stance again even as he spinned to face his enemy.

One of the lieutenants was staring straight back at him, the man in the process of removing his smoking fist from the ground, while one of his kin was attempting to beat down Metal Bat, with little luck at that.

"Nervous little bug, aren't you?" The man whose skin steamed taunted and Yuha's eyes narrowed.

For none of the 'rabble' were attempting to attack him, which meant—

He jumped to the side.

"Gkh!"

And a pained grunt left him as the feeling of something sharp bit into his upper back, causing sparks of agony to emanate from the center of his right shoulder-blade.

"Quick on his feet too," the last member of the trio said, thrusting his arm to the side in a flicking motion, causing the blood coating the blade popping out of the limb to fly off and splatter against the ground.

Even as the prospect of an even more deadly fight excited a part of him, while at the same time also causing the sane part of him to whimper in horror… Yet another part couldn't help but make him want to bash his head against the nearest wall.

They really are budget expies aren't they?

"That was a cheap trick," Yuha said instead, while on his back, the wound had already stopped bleeding…even if it actually knitting close would take some time still.

A second blade popper out of the lieutenant's other forearm as the man shrugged.

"Honor can have its place…when we're not fighting for our people."

And despite it all? Yuha could say nothing to that except offer a nod.

"Oh no you don't!"

The familiar voice caused everybody to turn, even as Yuha absentmindedly kicked away a brave normal Subterranean, the creature's ribcage caved in.

'Clank!'

"Gkh! You're strong…"

And Yuha couldn't help but grin, for the last of the trio, had no doubt attempted to disengage from the S-rank, hoping to regroup with his fellows and, after dealing with him, take on Metal Bat as one.

A smart plan.

One that the young delinquent clearly disagreed with.

And speaking off.

"You got this rookie?" the young man asked, busy fending blows from the lieutenant and the rest of the rubble.

"Yeah, thanks!" he offered instead with a grin before kicking off the ground and—

"Gkh!"

Sending the bladed man towards his comrade before coming to a spinning stop on the ground.

"Did…did you just spin kick me?"

"It worked didn't it~"

Only unlike Piccolo, he wasn't about to try it again.

"Try that again, if you dare!"

Case in point.

"Brother! Calm yourself, don't forget our goal!"

"You're right, forgive me, brother."

"There is nothing to forgive," the steaming man offered, squeezing his partner's shoulder in a show of camaraderie.

…And coincidentally making Yuha feel rather awkward.

Are…are we the bad guys here?

"Together brothers! We can win this!" the bladed lieutenant roared, thrusting an arm upwards and with the cheers of the crowd, an endless horde of Subterraneans descended on Yuha and Metal Bat both.

The battlefield turning into a dizzying melee for Yuha as was once again busy dodging, punching, kicking and weaving between blows.

But unlike before, with the S-rank nearby and at times by his literal side, he could strike back.

A punch here, a Ki-blast there, a jump kick when the opportunity arose and so on and so forth.

And even better? The delinquent, even if he spoke no word of it nor showed any sign as to it being the case? He was clearly viewing this as some sort of evaluation and training opportunity for Yuha both, at least that's what his gut and his instincts were telling him.

Otherwise, why make certain that Yuha was facing only as many of the trio as he could just barely handle at any one time?

The wild grin full of childlike glee was by now a permanent fixture on Yuha's face, and in his eardrums an ever-present roar akin to that of a gigantic furry creature sounded as if coming from afar.

But, inevitably, and even though his breath was starting to grow labored, all things come to an end.

And so it was in this case as well.

A punch, a miss, an opening and—

'Squelch.'

"Brother! No!"

The steaming man gargled incoherently, which made sense what with the fist currently jutting out from his back and through his chest.

After all, even if he wasn't truly Cell, that is, he didn't have the chimeric being's full power at his disposal, Yuha, even with his power so reduced and his instincts and Ki-control rusty, was still an amalgam of some of the strongest beings in existence.

The subterranean's head fell weakly forward, gazing incomprehensibly at Yuha's green limb as the light faded from his eyes and Yuha flung the body away.

His potential was neigh limitless, and so, even though the creatures were strong, they weren't beyond the bounds of normality, not truly. And so, one against one or even two against one? It was inevitable that their stamina would begin to flag before, even a diminished, perfect organism.

"You'll pay!" the bladed man screamed and lunged after Yuha.

Only, with his comrade's death, the tide of battle had permanently shifted.

And so, soon enough the end came, and a few seconds after the S-rank Hero's bat singed through the air, Yuha, rushed forward, kicking off the ground, his fist speeding forward, only for an aura of smug satisfaction to emanate from the bladed man.

"Fool! You fell for it!"

'Slink'

But, contrary to what the creature was no doubt expecting, Yuha's smile, even if he gritted his teeth, never faltered.

The creature realizing his folly too late, as with a burst of Ki, from the front of his knees, Yuha spun into a reverse ball, bringing his heel against the last lieutenant's head.

Crushing the man's skull.

"No!"

"We…we've lost!"

And with that, standing over the corpse, taking panting, gasping breaths. Yuha watched with satisfaction as the fight seemed to leave the rest of the gathered subterraneans, the buff creatures immediately disengaging from Metal Bad, giving Yuha and the young man both some much needed breathing space.

Directing some energy to his stump, a new arm sprouted again and—

"Gkh…"

He winced, and the left side of his vision turned white for an instant, causing Yuha to raise the newly regrown limb to his temple, while all over his body, muscles spasmed and danced.

"Yo rookie, you ok there?" Metal Bat's voice sounded from behind him, followed by the man landing a supporting arm on his shoulder.

"Y-Yeah…" he said, gasping for breath as his heartbeat started to come back down to something resembling normal. "I just pushed myself a bit harder than I should, that's all…"

The man, having stepped into his vision fully, examined Yuha with serious eyes, and then nodded.

"Well, whatever you're doing, you can drop it now," the teen said and then gazed to the side, a bloodthirsty grin in place. "The rest of the rubble? Leave them to me."

He nodded, and with a relieved sigh prepared to drop the Kaio-ken down a couple notches. Not entirely, they were still in the middle of a fight after all! But then…

A quake unlike any other shook the ground, and then a humongous figure burst through the ground. The being's mere act of shaking itself free from the ground sending boulders the size of cars flying through the air.

"Oya oya…" a deep baritone voice emanated from the dark figure's mouth. "I see you've been taking good care of my children," the being growled, staring for a few seconds at the remains of the lieutenants before growing still, the magma pulsing through cracks all over his body seeming to dull.

"Rest easy my sons, you will be remembered and avenged both," the being murmured, and then, stretched his four arms to the side, a short, by comparison, gladius like blade of raw magma appearing. "So, come then you 'Heroes'," the creature said, leveling a blade towards them, the magma inside his body glowing like the rivers of hell. "Face me and know death."

"The King, the King is here!"

"We're saved!"

As the crowd cheered, Metal Bat glanced at Yuha from the corner of his eyes.

"Kid…" oi, who you calling kid! He was the older of the two!

The teen's knuckles around his bat turned white.

"This foe is beyond you, stay out of this one."

Didn't have to tell him twice, he was already planning to do so.

For even with his rusty/new, it was so confusing, Ki-sensing skill, Yuha could feel the difference in power between the newcomer and his…'sons.'

…How did that work exactly, he hadn't seen a single female amongst the subterraneans so far.

So, either their women stayed out of the fights or…

His eyes fell on the dead lieutenant, and then the various corpses littering the surrounding space.

All of them overly muscular.

Marika's tits! The King had birthed them all akin to King Cold, hadn't he?

Luckily, or perhaps not, depending on how one viewed it, the underground King did not give Yuha much time to ponder on said fact and thus, turn even greener than he already was.

"You've prepared yourselves? Good, now die!" the being that would reach up to an Oozaru's shin roared, and, in a movement almost too fast to catch, pulled all four arms backwards, and then slashed forwards, the blades arch fast and powerful enough to carve four deep rends into the Association's building behind the being.

And subsequently crack, melt and break the reinforced door and cut slices out of the building's walls.

"Shiii—" Yuha's terrified scream was cut short, as the sensation of something moving too fast to see impacted against his ribs, sending painful jolts and he flew out of the way of the magma slash.

Tumbling and smashing through a couple of the fodder as he came to a painful stop.

"Argh…" groaning, and feeling the ineffectual blows coming from some of the nearby rabble, the creatures revitalized from their King's appearance, Yuha, body wracked with pain, jumped to his feet, blocking and retaliating here and there.

And for a moment, he almost stopped, a punch almost landing in his cheek, before the gale of wind slamming into him, snapped him out of it.

For where'd he'd been but an instant prior, Metal Bat could be found, swinging his namesake with such a speed and ferocity that Yuha could catch only trailing lines off.

Meeting and fending off the blows from the King.

But not all, some of them managing to slip through and cut thin lines on the delinquent's clothes and skin.

Not that the teen was content in leaving it at that, the King failing to block some of his own swings, and whenever the bat landed, a bruise formed.

"Kid! The Association!" Metal Bat roared, and with a blink, fending off a punch from a subterranean, Yuha realized the teen's meaning.

And a wide grin split his face.

For Metal Bat had just given him the opening he needed.

The opening…to get out of this mess!

"Aye aye, sir!" he shouted back, and with a kick against the pavement and a burst of ki, he jumped towards the Hero's Association building, and came to land but a few meters inside said building's currently jutting entrance.

And just as the first of the subterraneans were about to reach it too.

"Fear not brave citizens," he said, throwing a wink at the panicking normies behind him. "For I'm here!" he said and sunk into Goku's combat stance, confidence surging from him, and with it being the real deal as well this time.

Good. He twisted his neck to the side avoiding the first blow from a roaring creature, punching it back and sending it flying backwards and into a few of its fellows. He ignored the pain surging from every inch of his body. Mars Sensei's, you're a lifesaver. He thought, kicking away another would be invader. Now, all I have to do is wait a bit, slowly be 'overwhelmed' and fall deeper into the building…

Sending forth a few ki-blasts, and blowing holes through some more of the creatures, he stole a quick glance at the damaged ceiling, and more specifically the gigantic door frame.

And then, I bring it down with a 'misjudged' blast, barricading myself inside with the normies, and wait till this aaaall blows out.

"Impressive!"

"I could say the same!"

Glancing at the duo still going at it, he nodded.

Yeap, I'm definitely staying far, far away from that.

A few more meters, and he'd soon be out of this scott free!

Now, if only the good Doctor had seen fit to had included Mr. Satan's genetic makeup as well… for the man's ability to spew bullshit would be useful after this—

"Hah! Fool!" The King's voice roared and then, with a delayed swing of his arm, a gong like sound echoed, the pressure of the blow such as to make Yuha and the nearby subterraneans stumble, and Yuha could only watch with horror as Metal Bat flew backwards like a bullet.

Shit-shit-shit— for a moment, fear suffused his heart, for if the King turned towards him, he was toast—

Luckily, with a furious battle cry, the King leaped after his query and Yuha started to sigh in relief even as he danced through the rabble's blows.

But then, eyes still fixed on the massive form, watching as it smashed into an apartment building his gaze fell on one of the nearby bridges-freeways and how said bridge broke and tore, cars and rubble falling by the side.

And out of a mangled limo—

Fuck!

The world slowed as his mind kicked into overdrive and he stole a glance at the ceiling again.

This was his chance, he should do the smart thing and hole up. Not take part in what was no doubt a doomed endeavor. He should—

An aura of deepest scarlet bloomed around him, and his movements matched the speed of his thoughts. He chanced a glance behind him at the terrified faces of the people in the lobby.

He sighed, and as the King slashed and slashed far ahead, he nodded.

Yuha raised an arm and fired of a series of Ki-blasts, and with their boosted power, a lot of them outright causing some of the rabble to pop.

"Please head further back inside, I'm not sure how long this will hold," he said over his shoulder, and granted, at his current speed it was unlikely that any of the people there could understand him, but on the off chance that someone could…

Looking upwards and letting his computer do the heavy brunt of the calculations, he raised an arm and shot a few blasts.

And as ruined pieces of the ceiling started to fall, about to form a barrier, Yuha roared and with red lines coloring the edges of his vision exploded off the ground like a comet.

Fubuki marshalled her will as best she could and tried to force the world to obey, and yet, it wasn't enough.

Still reeling from the creature's attack, one that wasn't even aimed at her, Fubuki's power was a sluggish, slow thing, nothing like usual, and certainly nothing like Tatsumaki's, and as she watched the ground approach, the bitter sting of failure in her heart and Lily's drawn-out panicked scream…

She closed her eyes, shame filling her.

Only the end failed to manifest.

The limo jostled.

"E-eh?" and at Lily's incredulous shout, she opened her eyes, and watched as the man she'd come to recruit, grinning, massive, and covered in wounds and blood, was busy lowering the limo to the ground.

Holding it with the same ease Fubuki could hold a pen.

"Hello there!" the man winked, winked.

Did he miss the massive busy beating the living tar out of an S-rank or was he merely insane?

Fubuki blinked.

And since when was he so massive?

"T-thank you!" Lily squeaked, and Fubuki chancing a glance at her subordinate found the girl blushing.

"Think nothing of it fair maiden, merely a Hero's duty," the man winked again and let go of the car, and Fubuki, about to reprimand him, paused, for Yuha, even though he was still smiling…his eyes held a familiar tightness and his breath seemed to come in short pangs.

And…were his limbs shaking?

"Now, Miss, I'm afraid I must ask you too to vacate the area, as the King of the Subterraneans is a foe you can't face, and the best we can do is retreat—"

Fubuki's eyes narrowed and her hair begun to dance as her temper rose alongside her still smarting power.

Retreat? Her? If she did what chance did she have of catching up to her sister, and besides, if she did, who would protect the defenseless civilians and aid Metal Bat?

Yuha?

She snorted and with a gesture of her arm, the limo's top flew away, sheared off.

"I think not," she said and started to float.

"Miss!"

She didn't look at Lily, eyes fixed upon the panting man.

Fubuki knew not where the unranked Hero's newfound strength stemmed from, but he was still a thousand years too young if he thought to order her around.

And besides, her brain was no longer hurting, and so she'd show the fool who was the boss.

The ground shook once again and above them, the remains of the bridge exploded, revealing the massive form of the King, whom, cocking a head, retracted an arm holding a blazing sword.

"Hmf, more weaklings," he said, tone dismissive and Fubuki froze in terror as the creature's fool power smashed down at her, rooting her in place as it started to swing another arm.

"Look out!"

She could barely blink, before Yuha, with an agonized scream and an explosion of red around his body, slammed into the limo turned impromptu convertible, pushing it away while at the same time, a will not her own slammed into her, pushing her backwards and into the limo.

He is—

And then the blade fulfilled its arc, and Fubuki watched with horror as time resumed its course and Yuha's legs and upper body flew in different directions.

"Hmf. Brave if pointless."

The creature said with a scoff as Fubuki's mouth worked without a sound coming out, watching the remains of the man who'd twice saved them in the span of a few seconds.

"I had my eyes on the kid." A furious voice said.

"Eh?"

'Clank!'

"Argh!"

And then, from the ruins of the nearby building, Metal Bat, blood dripping down his brow, his naked chest marred with cuts and bleeding, jumped and proceeded to smack the King with his bat again and again.

"Persistent bug!"

Ignoring the fight above, Fubuki stared.

"Miss! Miss! C-come on, we got to go!" Lily tried, pulling at her arm, but Fubuki would not budge, continuing to stare.

Again.

She'd been too weak again.

And had to be saved by another, again. Only this time, her savior, unlike her sister back then, died to her weakness.

All of her training, all of her tears and effort so far?

Useless, pointless!

Her cheeks felt wet and—

"Shit! That hurts like you wouldn't believe…" a voice mumbled.

"Miss, we got to. E-eh?"

And dumbfounded, she and Lily both could only watch as Yuha's torn feet, jumped to their…feet again, while nearby, the man's upper torso rose unsteadily, flying through the air by unknown means.

That…before…that was the touch of telekinesis, I'm sure of it! Fubuki's mind couldn't help but observe as the much-deflated man drifted closer, deflated at least compared to what he looked like moments prior, he was still big.

Fubuki and Lily turned a bit green, like the man's overall complexion as his two halved aligned and with a wet squelch came together.

"Ahh…that's better," he said with a tired grin, before pausing and frowning.

He looked downwards. "Dammit! He burned off a few inches!" the man who should be dead complained and sighed. "It'll be a pain regrowing after the battle."

Fubuki couldn't help it, she laughed, making Lily startle and drawing the man's gaze as the battle continued nearby.

"Eh?"

"'After the battle', you say?" she asked with a tiny grin.

And the man shrugged. "Well yeah, can't very well do it in the middle of it."

Her lips twitched and she decided.

If they survived this? Yuha would join her group. No ifs and butts.

He might be a dumbass, but with conviction this strong? He might very well turn up to be the hidden ace she'd spent so long looking for.

But…

Her smile slipped as she stared at the man and frowned, properly noticing his mind for the first time. And the fact that she couldn't read his thoughts.

Or rather, she could it was just that said thoughts were…

He was about to die, he was sure of it.

After all, with no nearby help worth a damn, Metal Bat on the backfoot and with him flickering in and out of consciousness?

10

Oh yeah, that too, his power had dropped quite a bit.

Yeah, there was no way out of this that he could see.

Still, that meant that he had no reason to hold back and, thus no reason why he shouldn't try something like that.

Still, why was Fubuki's eyebrow twitching like that?

He shook his head.

No matter, if they lived through this and he remembered? He'd ask her then.

"Miss Blizzard, I have a plan, are you with me?" he asked and the woman blinked.

"What kind of plan?"

He grinned.

"The best kind."

28Chapter 5

Fubuki bit her lip so as to prevent herself from speaking.

He's an idiot! A fool! An utter moron! She shouted within the privacy of her mind, while be her side, Lily's mouth opened and closed as if the girl couldn't believe what she'd just heard.

And she couldn't blame her.

For Fubuki felt the same.

But what smarted even worse? Was that Yuha's…plan, seemed indeed to be their best shot. What with their current circumstances and all.

So, with a huff, she offered a nod to the man, who looked as if he was about to collapse any moment.

"Fine!"

"Then—"

"Yes, go do your thing," she said, waving an arm in a shooing motion.

"Thanks Miss Blizzard," the man said with a tired grin, and then roared as a wrathful scarlet aura blazed to life around him, and Yuha's body bulged up to obscene proportions yet again.

Even as the capillaries around his pupils burst, painting the whole sclera red and veins quivered all over his arms and body.

"Eek!"

Unlike her subordinate, Fubuki was made of sterner stuff. So she didn't squirm at the sight.

Ewww! Inside her mind, though, was another matter.

Still.

Watching Yuha perform an explosive jump, causing spiderwebs to spread across the already ruined tarmac followed by the man completing his arc and landing on the rooftop of a nearby apartment building, she couldn't help but wonder.

How did he know I could do that? A frown spread across her face for an instant. It would seem that I'm not the only one keeping tabs on people of interest. Cause that? I'm not that well known for said skill.

Questions for another time.

She sighed. Time to do her part. Her mind stretched across space, reaching, grasping, and then.

"Metal Bat, sir!"

"Gkh! Blizzard? What is it?"

She licked her lips.

"Well, sir, me and Yuha have an idea." Cause in the off chance they survived this and the Idiot's plan worked? Why not have the Idiot share credit with his boss to be, even if he didn't know it yet?

"Eh? The rookie? Well, might as well at least hear it. Do share."

She nodded at the implied order and did just that.

'9'

He snorted at the computer's reading.

Being so near death…it almost felt…freeing.

In this, here and now, he didn't have to worry about what may come, about all the monsters he'd have to face, the atrocities he'd no doubt commit across the cosmos or anything of the sort.

No.

As the battle dragged on in the plaza between the roads and the Association's building, and as Metal Bat and the Subterranean King traded blows that could squash him like a bug?

A smile of exhilaration wound forming on Yuha's face.

He ignored the screaming protests of his limbs and body and, with his all but certain death at hand. His mind emptied of worries, setting his will on simply enjoying what was to come.

Still…

'9…10…9…error'

His new instincts, at the sight of the glorious combat going down below, all but ached in their desire to join in. And more importantly, on the desire to continue fighting and testing himself against strong opponents.

Heh, seems all those months spent in the company of combat junkies affected me after all.

"Argh!"

With a thunderous blow of one of his blades and a triumphant roar, the King batted away Metal Bat, sending the youth skidding back towards Fubuki, before the creature raised his swords to the sky and let out a triumphant roar.

This was his chance!

He took a deep breath and with an arm raised, pointed his finger at the creature who started turning towards the Association building.

"You fool!" Yuha crowed at the top of his lungs, voice bellowing. "Do you think you've won? Mwahaha!" he gave an exaggerated laugh. "I got you right where I wanted you!" he said and the gigantic creature turned, and judging by the scoff and what could probably pass for a raised eyebrow, it was probably unimpressed. "If you think you are so tough…then try the champ's attack on for size! Mwahaha!"

"What are you playing at, fool? You're half dead already," The king said with a scoff and Yuha's grin widened.

"Oho! So you admit you're scared! As expected, go on then! Scurry on back underground with your tail between your legs!"

The creature bristled, and finally, at last, stood firm, spreading its arms to the side. A fell glow beginning to emanate from all four of its blades.

"Fine," he spat. "Do your best to die with dignity and not disappoint me."

"That's more like it!" Yuha shouted back, tone arrogant and grin in place as his arms shot forward, forming a cup which he then placed by his side.

Still, even if this is my limit, even if this is how far I go…I want to push beyond!

'9-10-9, 10-11-12, 10-11-12… Error! Error!'

He let go, fully activating Roshi's technique alongside pushing Kaio-ken to stage 11, his muscles and body ballooning to monstrous proportion even as his entire world turned white, and even as he knew nothing but pain, he knew where his opponent was, he could feel him and so, he poured everything in the swelling ball of energy cupped between his palms.

'Thump! Thump!'

Fubuki, brow furrowed in concentration and even with her left arm on Metal Bat's shoulder, was still able to spare enough of her attention to gaze at the distant figure atop the nearby building, distracting the creature and buying them precious time.

Granted, with the sudden monstrous output of power radiating from the man, coupled with his agonized scream? It was kinda hard not to look at him.

"###A Kamehamehaaaaa!"

And as Yuha fired off his attack, the world seemed to hitch for an instant so brief it could've almost been imagined.

"Destroyer slash!"

The Subterranean King was quick to respond.

Resulting in a colossal clash of energies, which sent winds buffeting everywhere and caused Fubuki's hair to dance.

And yet, her mind remained fixated on what she'd just seen.

That hint of green around his aura just now…he's definitely psychic!

The clash seemed to go on forever, and yet, in truth, it could have scarcely lasted more than a few seconds. The multicolored beam off the creature struggling against the spiraling beam with hints of green within, both vying and failing to achieve dominance over one another.

With an explosion that scoured the plaza of dead bodies and carved a deep gorge, the clash ended.

"Hmf! It would seem that some strength backed your words," The King said, standing tall and unharmed, and offering a nod of respect. "Be honored, Hero, go to your death knowing you've stood against me. Few people could say the same."

Yuha, on the other hand…

Fubuki's breath hitched.

For the building the man was standing on, was still standing and unharmed, yes. Unlike the Hero protecting it. For she suspected that the mutated Hero, whose body was all but covered in blood, with more leaking freely from numerous bursts vessels all over his body, was likely only still standing from inertia alone.

He couldn't see, his thoughts were choppy, and he could only hear out of one ear, even if the King's words were intermingled with an ever-present ringing.

In fact, he couldn't feel his body at all.

So, this is what it felt to pull an Eddie Hall and try to lift the metaphysical equivalent of half a tone…when you were not, in fact, Eddie Hall.

"Nonetheless, it saddens me to see a warrior of your caliber and spirit die in such an undignified manner, so, be glad, I'll give you a warrior's death brave Hero."

And yet, even as the King approached him, a fact he could only guess at from the encroaching crunch of the man's massive footsteps.

The silly grin on Yuha's face remained as he stared through his one still open, if unseeing, eye.

"Dammit Blizzard! How longer is this going to take?" Metal Bat growled, turning away from what was about to turn into a massacre and gazing at Tornado's sister, scowl firmly in place as he did his best not to fidget. "The Rookie is about to bite it! Hurry it up!"

The woman would not look him in the eye.

"I'm doing my best, but boosting someone takes time. I'm not my sister," the woman said, tone filled with self-loathing. "I'm sorry." and Metal Bat's scowl deepened even as he felt a pang of sympathy for the girl comparing herself with Tornado.

He opened his mouth, but then—

"Mwahaha! There truly is none who can stand in my way!" The creature's voice boomed. "After all, you were the second strongest after the brat with the stupid hair," Metal Bat twitched. "And after killing you? I'm gonna enjoy taking my time tormenting this world's people." He trembled. "Hmm…I wonder, did the stupid child have a family? A sister, perhaps? I should start there—"

A wordless roar escaped Metal Bat's lips, as he squeezed the bat in his arm hard enough to dent the metal and through pupilless eyes, exploded off the ground like a comet, a radiant aura exploding out of his pores, engulfing his body as he brought bulging muscles to bear and prepared for the swing of a lifetime.

"What did you say about my sister and my hair, you freak?" he roared.

"What are you talking about fool—"

'Clank!'

By her side, Lily trembled.

"M-mistress…"

Fubuki nodded.

"I know, Lily…I know." She sighed. And as the headless…well, more like gone from the chest up, lifeless body of the creature begun tilting, Fubuki pinched her nose and closed her eyes. "I can't believe the Idiot's plan worked…"

Sight returned to his single open eye just in time to watch a livid Metal Bat turn the subterranean into mincemeat. And just in time for—

"Gkh!"

Spots danced in his vision, and a new agony blossomed in his chest.

So, that's what it feels for your heart literally explode, eh?

His body was trying its best to keep Yuha alive. And yet, for all of its chimeric resilience, unlike his template's source, Yuha's abilities and gifts, even if technically the same, were akin to that of a newborn.

So, blows that Frieza and Cell could endure…Yuha could not. Not yet.

And as his paralyzed muscles finally gave out, he tilted forward, unable to do anything but stare at the distant ground below while in the corners of his vision, black lines spread.

He rather suspected he'd never get the chance to do so.

Still, the grin remained.

Heh…it was a good fight—

"Hoo! Careful there," a wizened voice said, and Yuha felt an arm akin to corded steel wrap around his torso, pulling him away from the brink.

As the stranger came into view, Yuha blinked.

"Silver Fang!" he said, and the old man's eyes creased in joy.

…well, that is what Yuha tried to say, but his currently nigh non-working mouth produced a confusing gargle.

Still, the old man seemed to understand him.

"Oho? You know of this old timer? I'll admit it is flattering to know that you youngsters still know about old relics like me, ohoho!" the man laughed and then fixed his gaze on Yuha, a curious glimmer in his eyes. "Still, even if I didn't quite make it in time, I have to say, those were some interesting techniques I caught you using there, son."

Yuha smiled and made to reply.

"Gkah!" only for a veritable river of blood to flow out of his mouth.

"Silver Fang!" Fubuki's voice came from somewhere below, causing the old-timer's gaze to snap towards the woman. "Hurry! Please bring him to me!"

And with the man's other steel like arm wrapping around Yuha's torso, he could do nothing as Bang jumped, carrying them both towards the ground below.

Rushing towards the pair, Fubuki was quick to place her palms on Yuha's blood-soaked chest.

"Gkh!"

A pained wince leaving her lips as she did, her hair floating in the wind and an aura of green radiating from her body.

Her earlier words to Metal Bad hadn't been entirely a lie. The ability she shared with her sister, that of 'Boosting' someone, well, it wasn't something which Fubuki could perform in an instant.

…Not without risk, at least.

After all, it necessitated linking herself to the person in question.

And if she did it wrong, it was entirely too possible for her to leave paths open. Paths through which she could share any potential damage the person she was connecting too was suffering from.

"Miss Blizzard! Are you ok?"

Smiling through the pain, she nodded in the S-ranked martial artist's direction.

Not bothering to wipe her bleeding nose.

"Y-yes, nothing to be worried about!"

She'd been lucky, noticing the wrong connection and ending it quickly, before too much damage could be transferred over.

Still.

A pair of pink eyes blinked in her direction with no small amount of wonder held within them and Fubuki, even as a small migraine started to spread, couldn't help it.

She stood taller and preened.

Yes! Your new boss is pretty awesome, isn't she? Be awed and worship me, Yuha! She thought with a creepy giggle, just about keeping it within her head. And then join my group and together we shall surpass my sister!

And that was the only reason she was taking this gamble.

For she had witnessed the man's curious mix of regeneration and resilience, and so, taking a risk with 'Boosting' his body and power, which were even now fighting to keep him alive? Well worth it for the potential boost he would grant her team.

…A-and it had nothing to do with wanting to repay the man for saving her twice! Or that even if he looked weird, he'd still been so valiant…

The sound of someone landing made her glance to the side.

"So, how's the rookie?" Metal Bat asked, blood-soaked and no longer busy kicking and beating the creature's dead carcass, seemingly having calmed down. "Will he pull through?"

Once again, she met pink eyes.

And slowly nodded.

"He just might. I'm doing my best," she said. "But now? It all depends on his own strength."

Metal Bat laughed.

"Hah! In that case we have nothing to worry about," the man said and patted Yuha on the shoulder with enough strength to make her patient wince and jostle in Bang's grip as the latter was still holding him upright.

"Mmh, do be careful there."

"Oi!" she snapped as blood leaked from Yuha's lips. "Hands off my patient!" she said, and Metal Bat at least had the decency to wince.

"Sorry," he said as he smiled and rubbed his neck. "But it seems I'm no longer needed here, oi, rookie."

Yuha's head slowly turned to focus on the man.

"Once you get better…and the association stops bothering me to file in the paperwork for all this? Hit me up. I might have a proposal for you."

No!

Yuha, after what she'd seen today, was to be her ticket to S-rank. Metal Bat could keep his stingy hands off him!

"-ill…-o" the man gurgled a Heroic gleam in his eye and Metal Bat nodded, before turning to leave.

And Fubuki, now that she knew what to look for, saw the gleam fade, only to be replaced by sheer exhaustion.

Oh, don't get her wrong. To anyone else, and the people and cameras no doubt recording this, he doubtlessly looked stoic and Heroic still.

And yet, in the previous fight, right as Yuha fired off that absurd attack? The strain the man no doubt underwent caused him to turn his full focus upon the fight and for his thoughts to turn serious.

Allowing her easy access to his mind and a glimpse at his true self.

Fubuki, smiled. It was good to know that underneath all this talk of heroism resided a human that could still feel fear and be scared out of his wits, while at the same time continuing to push through said fear.

But speaking of fear…

Her smile slipped and her eyebrow begun twitching again.

That does it! She stepped closer to Yuha.

"Mmh? Miss Blizzard?" Bang asked and Fubuki ignored the old timer even as her cheeks felt warm as she pressed her…upper torso against the part of Yuha's chest she could reach.

"The b-bigger the b-body contact, the easier and further I can boost someone," she explained.

Yuha's breath hitched while inside his mind—

Heh! Got it!

She smirked and her muscles loosened as her mind relaxed, beginning to lose herself in her technique and—

Without a warning, a gigantic green glowing fist slammed into Yuha and Yuha only, causing him to slip free from both Bang's grasp and Fubuki's telekinetic own.

"E-eh?!" Fubuki squeaked and prepared for a fight even as Yuha's body embedded itself in a nearby building's wall.

She scanned her surroundings until she felt a familiar presence and looked up.

She reacted without thinking.

Having arrived too late to be of any help, and only doing so in the first place because of the terror radiating off of Fubuki's mind—Tatsumaki always held a small part of herself in contact with Fubuki, watching her over, even if her sister didn't know it. Even so, Tatsumaki decided to approach nonetheless. But then, she'd noticed a mind she couldn't previously touch, now awake and visible, the once dark lake now glowing white.

A mind that was filled with nothing but—

"Tatsumaki's thighs! Tinny dommy mommy! Tatsumaki's ass! Tatsumaki's breasts! Psychic dommy mommy! Tatsumaki's legs! Tatsumaki's bellybuton! Green-haired dommy mommy! Tatsumaki's armpits!…"

Needless to say, she froze, and thankfully, having not been noticed yet, she hovered in place, her cheeks burning.

Not knowing quite how to react. Even if a not so small part of her loved every second of it.

For it was not every day that someone…appreciated her as a woman. And not because of being part of that group of fetishists at least. And even though the Idiot's mind, being filled as it were with thoughts of nothing but her, Tatsumaki could at least glimpse that much.

No, he liked her for her.

It was…a novel experience.

So, she could be forgiven for choosing to revel and bask in it for a few seconds.

But then.

Fubuki leaned in close to what felt like her #1 fan and—

"Tatsumaki's back…Fubuki's breasts? Tatsu—Fubuki's tummy?"

And her body moved on its own, condensed power in the form of a spectral limb, freeing Yuha from Fubuki's grasp.

"S-sister?" her brat of a sister squeaked as Tatsumaki, a scowl on her face, lowered herself towards Fubuki and Bang. "W-why did you do that?"

She scoffed and rolled her eyes.

"Your technique still needs work, Fubuki," she offered as an answer. "You're too slow, and I'm not sure you've stopped all the bleeding."

Still glowing with power, she waved an arm and Yuha, flickering in and out of consciousness, was freed from his prison, and the blood that'd started to leak out of his pores the moment Fubuki's boost was interrupted, stopped flowing once more.

But then, something unexpected happened.

The bucket thing that Tatsumaki had previously assumed to be part of Yuha's head cracked, finally having had enough punishment and split in two, falling to the ground.

"E-eh? Hair?" Fubuki said with bulging eyes.

But Tatsumaki, even if she was just as surprised to see that the man had actual, if short and quite spiky pink hair underneath his…hat? She did not outwardly react.

"And I've already saved this one earlier. I'll not have him die because of your incompetence! Hmf!" she said and rose to the sky, Yuha in tow, even as Fubuki clenched her fists.

Sorry, sis, but I'm not letting you have this one…

Tatsumaki flew like a bullet towards the Association's building.

"Heh! Tatsumaki's butt…"

Her lips twitched, threatening to form into a smile. Someone was viewing her as a woman! No way was she letting this one slip through her fingers!

"Heh! That's what I thought," the arrogant creature said, seemingly satisfied, turning around and starting to make its way out of the room.

…not that it managed to do so, for before it could take more than two steps, it froze in place.

"W-wha—"

And then, the aura of green holding it in place, contracted.

Sighing, and letting the power dissipate, the room's owner turned their attention back to the tablet in their arm.

"Hmm, so he did invade after all." On the screen, the aftermath of the subterraneans attempted invasion was visible, mixed with various images from all over the world, displaying the extent of the damage. "Such a pity, he really should have taken me up on my offer. Oh the wonders we could've achieved with their ability to traverse all but instantaneously through the ground—" On the screen a short clip played, showing Fubuki's body touching that of what had but a moment prior been an unimportant peon.

The tablet shattered and the room trembled.

"S-sir, Mosquito girl is d-dead."

He blinked and pushed his glasses up his nose.

"I'm aware of that subject, you are telling me this…why?"

He could taste the terror, and yet, at this instance? He cared not.

"W-well, I was the one you placed in charge of her. A-and—"

And the fool was no doubt expecting to die for it.

Normally he'd be right, but in this instance the peon would get to live.

"Yes, yes, whatever, if there's nothing else, you can leave, I'm quite busy you see."

"Y-Yes! I-I mean, no, sir! T-thank you, sir!" his creation shouted and made a beeline out of his room. The door of the high-tech laboratory sliding close.

As for him? His glasses glinted and a slow smile spread across his face as he continued staring at the terminal in front of him, and more specifically at the images of the now thwarted invasion.

An invasion that yielded such treasures.

Deep in space, a vessel bigger than most human cities sped through the void.
