Female Forensic Doctor of Dali Temple

Chapter 5 - Small Shoe Prints and Big Shoe Prints

Although Jian Yu’s voice was cold, he lowered his head and spoke, almost close to Bai Yue’s ears, and a warm breath fell on her ear. This posture was too ambiguous. Bai Yue suddenly felt that her ears were a little itchy. She reached out and scratched, and her face suddenly turned red.

“Don’t make trouble.” Bai Yue didn’t even notice that his voice was lowered by eight degrees. “I really found it. You let go first.”

Jian Yu seemed to be determined to teach Bai Yue a lesson. Instead of letting go, he came closer and looked like a hooligan, “If I don’t let go, what can you do?”

He played hooligans on his fiancee during working hours. It seemed that Jian Yu was very angry with the owner of this body before, and Bai Yue said lightly, “Are you really not going to let go?”

Bai Yue’s tone was still threatening. Jian Yu was too lazy to speak in his heart. He looked down at her and obviously looked like he could see what tricks you could play.

“Okay.” Bai Yue spit out a word, took a deep breath, and suddenly touched back with both hands.

Jian Yu is a martial arts person. He has a very good figure and a thin waist. Thinking of the previous experience of being slipped away by Bai Yue, he is tightening his body now. Suddenly, Bai Yue made a move; her hands, one on each side, reached for his waist…

Bai Yue smiled badly, “I don’t believe you’re not ticklish.”

Jian Yu almost shouted out with this breath, and immediately let go of his hand and stepped back two steps. He was a respectable young man from a prominent family, how could he have imagined that Bai Yue, a girl, would not only audaciously touch him but also dare to pinch him.

She’s really a rural girl, completely lacking in restraint. How undignified.

It was fortunate that the young servant following behind hadn’t come closer, and had actually turned away. Otherwise, Jian Yu was truly afraid that the suspicious redness on his face would be noticed.

Bai Yue was quite satisfied with the effect of her move, using her finger to tap Jian Yu. “It’s lucky you’re handsome, or I wouldn’t lower myself to your level.”

Pressing his waist, Jian Yu’s face couldn’t hide its embarrassment. The momentary warmth had immediately set his cheeks ablaze. His expression darkened, about to erupt in anger, but Bai Yue beat him to it. “I’m not fooling around with you. I really found a clue. I know who the murderer is.”

As Bai Yue spoke, she pointed to the top of the wall, where she had been about to climb.

Jian Yu furrowed her brows. Although he really wanted to pull her over right now and give her a good beating, he still looked in the direction Bai Yue indicated.

“The child is important. We can settle our personal grievances later,” Bai Yue consoled Jian Yu, “Look there, do you see it? It’s like there’s a footprint. I wanted to climb up and take a closer look.”

Indeed, there was a mark near the top of the wall, though calling it a footprint might be a stretch.

Following Bai Yue’s direction, Jian Yu couldn’t help but admire her sharp eyes. At least, his subordinates hadn’t noticed it during their initial inspection.

“Pull me up there to take a look,” Bai Yue suggested, “I have an idea.”

Jian Yu instinctively started to wave for Liang Meng to come and lift Bai Yue up, but his hand was raised briefly before he lowered it, grabbing the back of Bai Yue’s clothes.

“Don’t move around, I’ll take you up.”

As the clothes tightened behind her, Bai Yue quickly grabbed onto Jian Yu’s arm. Suddenly, she found herself lifted off the ground and onto the top of the wall.

Flying would be great, Bai Yue thought enviously, glancing at the ground below the wall. But now, starting to learn would probably be too late.

“Look,” Jian Yu said, holding Bai Yue on the wall. Despite his cold tone, he continued to hold onto Bai Yue’s clothing, indicating that he didn’t plan to push her off for personal revenge.

“It’s really a footprint,” Bai Yue examined the tiny mark for a while, “A child’s footprint. This must be left by the young master of the Wei family.”

A three-year-old child, lightweight as well. Even if they stepped on the wall, it would probably leave such a shallow impression.

Jian Yu brought her back down. “So, the wet nurse didn’t lie. The child didn’t leave through the main gate. The murderer climbed over the wall.”

Bai Yue nodded. “Yes, and we can be sure that the culprit is someone familiar.”

“What makes you say that?”

“From the direction of the footprint, the child stepped on it head-on. A three-year-old can’t climb by themselves. There must have been an adult behind, supporting them. Since the wet nurse didn’t hear anything, the child must know the culprit well and have a good relationship with them. That’s why the culprit could coax the child into being so obedient.”

Though Bai Yue’s appearance might be off-putting, her reasoning was sound. Jian Yu nodded, “The relationship between the Wei household and the child is good, and there are likely few women with enough strength to lift a child onto the wall and climb over.”

“No,” Bai Yue waggled her finger, “It’s not a woman; it’s a man. Moreover, I have reason to suspect that the person who abducted young Master Wei and the one who killed Old Master Wei are the same culprit.”

Bai Yue’s statement left everyone stunned.

Liang Meng pointed at the shoe print on the ground, “But this is clearly the footprint of a woman. What man has such small feet?”

“The shoe print belongs to a woman, but who says a man can’t wear a girl’s shoes?”

As Bai Yue spoke, the group was taken aback by this possibility, one they hadn’t considered before.

“Look at this shoe print,” Bai Yue crouched down, pointing at one of them. “Behind this shoe print, there’s a shallower impression.”

Liang Meng had examined the shoe prints closely before, but he hadn’t noticed this small curved mark. It was only about half the length of a finger, and it wasn’t clear what it was. Perplexed, he said, “There are some marks on the ground, which is normal.”

“Quite normal, but it becomes abnormal when you piece things together,” Bai Yue said. “First of all, the depth of this footprint could not have been left by a normal-sized maid. Look at the depth of my own footprints.”

Bai Yue had made an effort to climb the wall earlier, stomping on the bricks a few times, but her shoe print compared to the one they were looking at was much shallower.

“My weight…” Bai Yue began, intending to provide a figure but suddenly realizing she didn’t know her current weight and couldn’t just guess. She corrected herself, “My weight is similar to most of the girls in the mansion. It absolutely wouldn’t create such deep marks.”

“It’s quite accurate,” Jian Yu seemed to contemplate for a moment, “Indeed, not heavy.”

Bai Yue rolled her eyes at Jian Yu and then spoke earnestly, “To leave footprints that deep, I estimate the weight would be around two hundred catties (around 220 pounds or 99 kilograms). However, such a burly man wouldn’t fit into a woman’s shoes so his heels were exposed. Despite being careful, he accidentally touched the ground while walking, leaving behind this kind of mark.”

And only a man of such robust stature could potentially strangle Wei Cheng without making any sound.

A hundred-catty girl might be hard to find in a crowd, but isn’t it even harder to find a two-hundred-catty man? Jian Yu was convinced and immediately instructed, “Liang Meng, go check if there’s a man of this weight in the Wei household.”

Liang Meng left right away. Bai Yue tugged on Jian Yu’s sleeve.

Jian Yu made a face of disdain and pulled out his own sleeve.
