Chapter 5: a new morning
A new morning arrived, and a familiar voice echoed through the halls of the orphanage.
"Wake up, children, it's morning!"
Miss Bella was making her rounds, waking the children from their sleep.
Ali jumped out of bed as soon as his eyes opened. He quickly headed to his closet and changed into his clothes. Luca, curled up on the edge of the bed, lazily opened his eyes and yawned.
"Come on, Luca, we have something to talk about at breakfast," Ali said.
Luca stretched and brushed his black fur before following Ali silently, his tail flicking gently. When they reached the dining hall, Luca curled up at Ali's feet.
"Ali, do you really want to go to that house?" Luca muttered, his voice low and almost a hiss.
Ali glanced at Luca as he picked up the bread on his plate.
"Yes, we have to go, Luca. I need answers."
Luca tapped the ground with his paw, his eyes narrowing.
"This is too dangerous, Ali. What if they catch you? What if something happens to you?"
Ali gently stroked Luca's ears.
"You sound like Miss Elenor, Luca."
Luca wagged his tail in frustration.
"I'm just worried about you."
Ali shrugged.
"Don't worry, nothing's going to happen. Instead, we should start thinking about how to escape from the orphanage."
Luca paused, considering.
"Maybe during garden time... Do you remember the fence behind the oak tree? Part of it was loose. We could get through there."
Ali's eyes brightened.
"Yeah! That's a great idea, Luca. Let's do it."
When garden time finally arrived, the children were taken outside. Ali sat in a corner with Luca, pretending to watch the surroundings.
"Luca," Ali whispered, "Miss Bella keeps walking around. How are we going to get past her?"
Luca, distracted, started playing with the leaves next to him, his tail curling around. At that moment, two of the children, Edward and Kerem, started arguing over a toy. Luca's eyes narrowed with a plan.
"Ali, listen. We're going to do something now..."
Ali slowly approached Edward, who was wearing a green shirt. Luca hid behind a bush, watching the scene unfold.
"Hey, Edward," Ali said, pretending to be casual.
Edward frowned when he saw Ali.
"What's up, Ali?"
"Edward, do you know? I saw your lost robot toy... It's in Kerem's hand."
Edward raised an eyebrow suspiciously.
"Are you sure?"
Ali nodded confidently.
"Of course, I'm sure."
Without another word, Edward quickly ran over to confront Kerem. Luca happily wagged his tail, moving to Ali's side.
"How did I do?" Ali whispered.
Luca put a paw on the ground in dissatisfaction.
"This isn't a good thing, Ali. I don't feel good about this."
Ali's gaze dropped to the ground.
"I won't do it again, I promise. But I have to find my family."
Luca sighed deeply, hearing the determination in Ali's voice. Just then, Edward and Kerem started fighting.
Miss Bella quickly ran over to break up the argument.
"Ali, now's our chance!" Luca hissed.
Ali nodded, his heart pounding in his chest.
"I'm ready!"
Luca swiftly slipped through the bushes and headed toward the oak tree. Ali followed him, moving silently.
When they reached the fence, Luca nimbly jumped over the broken part. Ali carefully squeezed through the loose section of the fence.
They had both managed to escape from the orphanage.
