Fate/Magus Path

Chapter 98: 98 The Witch and The Magician

As Morgan manipulated the underground grand bounded field, the landscape was constantly shifting.

To optimize her combat strategy, Morgan wisely relocated the battlefield. The narrow tunnel had now been replaced by a vast, open plain.

At this moment, the two combatants were fighting fiercely in this expansive arena.

"What's wrong, Magician of the Third Magic? Why are you dodging like a slippery eel? Weren't you the one who said I was the challenger?"

From a distance, Morgan wielded her black Rhongomyniad, releasing a barrage of terrifying black magical spear blades that shot toward Roy.

*Boom!!*

The terrifying magical energy contained within slammed into the ground, unleashing a violent black storm. Roy, meanwhile, skillfully maneuvered, darting and dodging between the falling dark spears.

"..."

"It's too early to declare victory, Lady Morgan."

Roy had already figured out Morgan's intentions. The witch had deliberately changed the scenery and widened the gap between them, intending to kite him with the Rhongomyniad from a distance.

It was clear her body wasn't suited for close combat, and using the Rhongomyniad to summon storms from afar was her best strategy.

Although he could use brute force and raise his magical power to engage Morgan head-on, that would be foolish.

As long as Morgan held the Anchor of the Planet and remained on the planet, she could continuously draw from its endless magical energy, making her simulated witch form tireless. A prolonged battle would be pointless.

To defeat this witch, the key lay in dealing with the Rhongomyniad.

First, he had to close the distance.

Seeing Roy rapidly closing in, Morgan frowned slightly.

Her movements quickened, summoning even more spear blades while sending waves of black magical energy from the ground to cover him.

"Good! Triple Shield!"

Roy grunted, Volumen Hydrargyrum enveloping him like armor. Black flames and lightning crackled across his body as a torrent of magical energy quickly formed a bounded field around him, far stronger than before. Then, like a meteor, he sped toward Morgan.

"What?"

Seeing her attacks being swiftly dodged, Morgan raised her left hand and amplified the Rhongomyniad's magical output. At the same time, she manipulated her magical energy to control the environment, summoning more magical spears from the ground to slow Roy's movements and prevent him from escaping the Rhongomyniad's range.

"Hm?"

Roy, unable to slow down in time, collided head-on with the magical spears. Black flames clashed with the magical blades, and in an instant, the flames burned through large portions of the spears as Roy pressed forward through the tide of magical energy toward Morgan.

"Damn it! These flames can burn both souls and magical energy?!"

Morgan glanced at the large swaths of her spears being incinerated and then at Roy, who was quickly closing in. Her expression showed surprise.

But as a witch of the Age of Gods, she quickly discerned the true nature of Roy's flames.

"Impressive. You truly are worthy of challenging a Divine Construct of the Age of Gods, Magician."

"However, don't think that just because of those black flames I have no means to deal with you. Fire that can burn magical energy may be troublesome for magus, but… don't underestimate the Witch of the Age of Gods."

Morgan's eyes flickered with intense emotion, and with her control, the black Rhongomyniad in her hand began to flash with dark lightning. The terrifying magical energy surged, easily tearing through the sky of the bounded field, shattering the simulated landscape, and returning them to the tunnel where they'd started. The distance between them instantly shrank.

"Rhongomyniad, anchor release!"

High-Speed Incantation!

"Tis a ruinous dream I cannot bear to see. No recompense, no salvation to be had. At the world's end, a bird sings of tomorrow. Let this be a sign..."

"Roadless Camelot!"

Black light exploded in the tunnel, followed by a deafening crash. The terrifying magical energy surged forth with incredible force, appearing in front of Roy in an instant.

This close, the destructive light, and overwhelming power made Roy feel the threat of death for the first time in a long while.

"A Noble Phantasm?!"

Thanks to her High-Speed Incantation, Morgan had unleashed her Noble Phantasm with astonishing speed, leaving her opponent with almost no time to react.

Seeing the black light closing in, Roy hesitated. He wasn't foolish enough to try to block a full-powered strike from the Rhongomyniad with his own bounded field shield.

Yet at such close range, there was no way to dodge.

And so, in just the next breath, before he could think of a counter, Roy's figure was swallowed by the black light.

*Whoosh!!*

The destructive black light followed closely behind, shaking the entire bounded field space with its impact. The surrounding space warped and twisted under the Rhongomyniad's devastation, eventually breaking apart, dissolving into nothingness as an unfamiliar darkness quickly engulfed the environment, placing them in a new, strange location.

"Is it over?"

Morgan's grip on the Rhongomyniad relaxed as she no longer sensed Roy's magical energy. He must have been annihilated by the Rhongomyniad's power...

But would things really go that smoothly? While she had confidence in the Rhongomyniad's strength, if her opponent was the Magician of the Third Magic, that was another matter.

Even though she had used High-Speed Incantation to unleash the Rhongomyniad's power in a surprise attack, she didn't believe that it had been enough to eliminate him entirely.

So where was he?

*Whoosh!*

Just as Morgan had predicted, a figure shot out from the darkness with astonishing speed, heading straight for her.

Startled, Morgan quickly raised her Rhongomyniad to block the incoming figure. Black light flashed between them, and the person's figure became clear.

It was Roy, his body battered and burned from the Rhongomyniad's magical energy, his clothes tattered.

Despite his pitiful state, the injuries hadn't taken him out of the fight. He swung a silver sword, condensed from Volumen Hydrargyrum, directly at Morgan.

However, the modern mystic code was no match for the Rhongomyniad, a Divine Construct of the highest mystery.

*Clang!* *Clang!*

In a breath, their weapons clashed, and after several sharp collisions, the silver sword in Roy's hand shattered, turning into dust.

Modern mystic codes simply couldn't withstand such a battle. At moments like these, Roy couldn't help but miss the indestructible Arondight.

"Is this all you've got?"

Seeing the silver sword in Roy's hand shatter, Morgan relaxed her brows slightly, looking at him with a bit of smugness, as if mocking his overconfidence.

"Of course not, the battle is far from over."

The figure didn't stop. Even as the silver sword shattered, Roy's movements showed no hesitation, and in that brief moment, he reached directly for the Rhongomyniad.

He intended to snatch the lance!

"Foolishness!"

Morgan saw through Roy's intent to seize the lance and would not let him succeed. Boundless magical power surged into the lance once more, amplifying its might. The radiant black light instantly flared brighter.

"Then let's try."

Roy continued without pause, as the magic circuits wrapped around his arm began to glow faintly blue. Numerous magic circuits appeared, materializing at his will, and a surge of terrifying magical energy gathered in his hands as he reached forward.

*Buzz!!*

As the two forces collided, the sound of clashing magical energy resonated, as if something was neutralizing the impact. Staring at the figure firmly grasping her Rhongomyniad, Morgan Le Fay... was startled.

She hadn't expected Roy to actually have the strength to suppress the Rhongomyniad!

Seeing his arm, enveloped in blue light, firmly holding back the black lance, Morgan's eyes flashed with a hint of panic. She couldn't help but shout, "What is going on?"

But Roy had no intention of answering her question. Seizing the opportunity, he lifted his other hand and forcefully struck her hand, sending a shockwave of power that threw her backward.

After the exchange, Roy, relying on his battle experience and magical reserves, was slightly gaining the upper hand.

Yet, despite the opportunity, he never managed to take the black Rhongomyniad.

Just as he was about to seize it, Morgan summoned the lance back in the final moment.

In Roy's palm, the Rhongomyniad vanished into a stream of light, disappearing completely, leaving no chance to hold onto it.

"…"

Unable to suppress it. It seemed as though something mysterious was resisting him. No wonder it was called the Anchor of the Planet.

The storm lance connected to the planet allowed its wielder to directly communicate with Gaia. Against someone like Roy, who was seen as a threat to the planet, the lance naturally unleashed greater power.

When he grasped the lance, he could feel the unique resisting force, which was Gaia's absolute control over the Rhongomyniad. Without that, Morgan wouldn't have recalled her weapon so easily.

"The Counter Force is interfering. Gaia, you really enjoy opposing me, huh..."

Roy glanced at his now scorched hand, scorched by the Rhongomyniad, and sighed. He took a deep breath and quickly began healing himself, channeling magical energy into his hands.

A soft green light enveloped his hands, swiftly healing his wounds and restoring the damage on his body.

At the same time, Morgan, who had also been knocked back by the magical energy shockwave, gripped the Rhongomyniad once again, feeling more confident.

At that moment, Roy lifted his head slightly, feeling his strength return. He raised his hands again, ready for battle.

"The meaningless probing is over. Let's begin the second round, Lady Morgan."

Even though Roy had sensed the aura of the planet while holding the Rhongomyniad, he showed no fear.

He continued to stare at Morgan Le Fay with a serious expression, raising his hand to unleash a torrent of magical power, his face showing no signs of hesitation.

The Anchor of the Planet, coupled with Gaia, was indeed troublesome.

But Roy had already figured out a way to win.

So he continued, staring at Morgan, saying, "This time, bring out all your strength, Morgan Le Fay. This is your last chance."

"I won't hold back anymore."

Magical Power Release - Full Power!

Pulling off the restraining pendant from his neck, Roy's azure eyes gleamed brilliantly. In an instant, over nine thousand magic circuits in his body ignited, lighting up the dark surroundings like a rising star, pushing away the darkness with a blinding light.

He lifted his finger, and a terrifying magical energy cannon gathered at his fingertip, forming in the blink of an eye.

Mana Photon Cannon!

"Hmph, did my last attack not teach you a lesson?"

"If that's the case, then as you wish."

With a cold snort, Morgan's black Rhongomyniad descended once again. The black light burst out with renewed intensity, surging towards Roy.

But this time, its power was far greater than before. As the white magical energy cannon and black lance beam collided, in an instant, the world seemed to collapse.

Blinding light exploded before their eyes.

...

Due to the reckless actions of two individuals, the underground grand bounded field was on the verge of collapse, causing the concepts of space and time to become chaotic.

Although Artoria rushed toward this direction at her fastest speed, the sudden onset of endless darkness caused her to lose her way.

"Where is this?"

Amidst the boundless darkness where she had completely lost her sense of direction, Artoria couldn't help but feel confused, though anxiety also welled up within her.

Her sister and Master were still fighting somewhere else... how could she allow herself to be trapped here? Fortunately, this sense of disorientation didn't last long.

Accompanied by a thunderous crash from an unknown direction, the darkness immediately retreated, and she heard a sound like something shattering. Artoria realized that the space she was in was breaking apart like an illusionary dream.

Upon opening her eyes again, she found herself back in the underground corridor. What had once vanished... an elusive presence... now appeared distinctly before her. Leaping through the dust, Artoria looked ahead.

...

On the other side, Roy stood over Morgan Le Fay, who had already been struck down by his attack. Although his body bore several wounds, a smile still lingered on his face.

Such injuries were not a major issue for him.

A little healing was all he needed. After just a few breaths, his wounds had already healed completely, leaving no trace behind.

Thanks to the perpetual motion machine that was the core of the Third Magic, combined with his perfect body, originating from the Root, as long as he had sufficient knowledge and magical reserves, he could perform any combination of magecraft instantly.

And with that, even a godlike witch from the Age of the Gods, supported by Gaia, was no match for him.

It may have seemed like an even match, but in the end, Roy had barely taken any real damage. Unless the enemy could completely obliterate him at the spiritual level in an instant, he could recover quickly, and Avalon hidden in his chest ensured that he wouldn't be killed instantly.

Before arriving, Roy had mentally prepared himself to face a Witch of the Age of Gods, so he had borrowed Avalon from Artoria and hidden it within his body, just in case.

This key difference was what led to Morgan Le Fay's utter defeat, despite wielding the Rhongomyniad.

However, the power of the Rhongomyniad was indeed terrifying.

Even at full power, his magical energy cannon could only hold its own for a brief moment before being completely devoured by the destructive light of the lance.

On the front lines, he had lost decisively.

So, just as the Rhongomyniad's light was about to reach him, he swiftly deployed Avalon and hid inside, waiting for the Rhongomyniad's attack to weaken and subside. Then, he released Avalon and caught Morgan off guard.

Although his body suffered significant injuries from withstanding the final segment of the Rhongomyniad's attack, such wounds were nothing he couldn't quickly heal.

"Is this the full power of the Rhongomyniad? Truly extraordinary, to be able to instantly destroy the simulation created by Logos React."

Even as the victor, Roy didn't hesitate to praise the witch's formidable power.

"Hmph, despicable man. You only managed to hold off the power of the planet by stealing Avalon's strength, and now you're boasting about it. What's there to be proud of?"

Morgan, now powerless to resist, spoke with anger on her face.

"Say what you will. Without Avalon, trying to withstand the full force of the Anchor of the Planet using just magecraft and my body would be extremely dangerous."

"After all, a Magician is still merely a being of this planet. It would be far too arrogant to face Gaia head-on. I'm confident in my abilities, but I'm not foolish enough to take on something so overwhelming."

Roy glanced down at the crumbling form of the witch and spoke with calm detachment. To avoid any potential last-ditch retaliation or other hidden traps, he even raised a bounded field to safely isolate himself.

As the victor, he paid no heed to Morgan's expression of loathing, for her defeat was already sealed.

The grand bounded field had shattered, and Roy had used magecraft to cover this place. Combined with the previous destruction, the Logos React could no longer continue to simulate, so Morgan's body would soon collapse... only a matter of time.

But to be cautious, Roy raised his hand and placed several layers of restraints on Morgan's body to prevent her from launching any final attacks.

With a smile, he said, "Witch of Britain, Lady Morgan Le Fay, thanks to you, I've gained new insights and control over my own power. You truly were an excellent opponent."

"However, the outcome is now decided. There is no deep grudge between us, no need for a fight to the death."

"If possible, I'd like to talk to you about the curse burdening the Gravekeeper, as well as matters concerning Artoria. After all, you are Artoria's sister, and the one who cares about her the most."

Upon hearing this, Morgan's eyes narrowed slightly, but she quickly returned to normal and snorted coldly, "Hmph, don't act like you understand me."

Even though she was immobilized, bound by Roy's restraints, Morgan still refused to cooperate or speak, instead turning her head away.

"You are the victor. Kill me or do whatever you please, but don't expect to get any information from me."

"…"

Roy felt a headache coming on.

Why did it feel like he was the villain here?

She was the one who attacked first, and even the grand bounded field had been set up by her. Now, she was acting so defiant, refusing to yield.

If it weren't for the fact that she was Artoria's sister, and he wanted to give Artoria the chance to meet with her face-to-face, Roy wouldn't have bothered with all this trouble.

Still, he tried to remain calm and said to Morgan, "I think there may be a slight misunderstanding between us."

"Hmph, I won't tell you anything, no matter how eloquent you are."

"I haven't even asked yet."

"Could you at least hear me out before responding?"

"Hmph." Morgan turned her head away, still unwilling to speak further.

As Roy and Morgan continued to glare at each other, he suddenly sensed a familiar presence approaching.

This filled him with joy.

The battle was over, and in the empty corridor, Roy turned toward where Artoria was approaching.

He saw the long-lost King of Knights finally arriving.

A smile of delight appeared on his face, "You're back, Artoria."
