Chapter 213: MP 213: I’ll Hold the Line
Just as they were about to swarm and eliminate the Seventh Singularity's most troublesome foe, a terrifying surge of mana appeared on the distant horizon.
It was racing toward their battlefield at breakneck speed.
Danger!!
Humbaba and the Demon God Pillars' gazes sharpened, their countless eyes swiveling to the sky. They unleashed attacks toward a crimson fireball hurtling through the night.
Roar!!!
Blazing red flames, infused with mana, ignited an inferno before them.
A crimson thunder-lance shot forth, and as the fiery sea and figure landed on the ground, they charged with overwhelming force, clashing with a Demon God Pillar below.
Splat!!
The sound of a lance piercing flesh rang out, accompanied by flames searing through tissue. The sheer power shook the earth.
In the next moment,
Amid the flames, Karna, clad in golden armor, shone brilliantly. His right eye blazed with radiant heat as he locked gazes with the pierced Demon God Pillar.
Without hesitation, in a mere instant, both sides desperately channeled mana…
"Incineration Ritual!!!"
"O Brahma, Curse Me..."
"Brahmastra Kundala!!"
Boom!!
A thunderous explosion echoed through the night. Crimson and purple beams collided, their searing light illuminating the darkness before splitting apart!!
Scorched earth lay beneath the lance, the unknown Demon God Pillar reduced to ash. Standing on the blackened ground was the Son of the Sun God, Karna.
Taking the brunt of the pillar's suicidal attack, even in his golden armor, Karna felt the toll. The pain rivaled his clashes with Arjuna.
But trading his wounds for a Demon God Pillar was a worthwhile outcome.
"Huff… huff…"
Panting, Karna stepped through the flames onto the battlefield.
Seizing the gap created by the pillar's sudden death, Quetzalcoatl escaped the barrier, foiling Humbaba and the pillars' plan to trap her.
"Onee-san's out!!"
Rubbing her neck, Quetzalcoatl frowned at the youth. "You really saved me, Karna!"
"How's your side? Did everyone you were transporting reach Uruk?"
Seeing Karna appear and break her out, Quetzalcoatl's worries eased.
His presence here meant the Ur citizens on the air route had safely reached Uruk.
"Yes, they've reached Uruk. There were demon beasts in the air, but I could handle their numbers. However, Uruk's situation is dire. The demon beasts have launched an all-out assault, and the city is preparing for war. I was concerned about you, so I came to check…" Karna answered earnestly.
"An all-out assault? That makes sense, especially with these Demon God Pillars involved."
Quetzalcoatl shook her head, sighing. "Thanks to you, or I'd have been in real trouble."
"Let's team up and take out these wretched pillars. You handle that beast; I'll deal with the rest."
She pointed at Humbaba, now enraged and roaring at Karna's arrival.
Having been killed once by Karna, Roy, and others, Kingu's hatred for the Son of the Sun was etched into its core. Even transferred to Humbaba's body and stripped of intellect, that hatred remained.
Seeing Karna again, its fury was inevitable.
This was why Quetzalcoatl entrusted Karna with holding Humbaba.
But before she could finish, Karna shook his head, refusing.
"No, there's no time."
"What do you mean, no time?"
Quetzalcoatl was puzzled.
"On my way here, I saw Mesopotamia's situation from the sky."
Karna's expression grew grave. "Demon beasts, countless demon beasts, are converging from all directions. Assassin and Rider can't hold them off alone. You need to go help them now, Quetzalcoatl."
Hearing Karna's words, Quetzalcoatl frowned, warily eyeing the numerous Demon God Pillars and the roaring Humbaba.
"What about here? I doubt they'll just let us walk away."
"I know."
Karna understood her concern, which was why he'd come.
"Go, Quetzalcoatl. If you hurry, you can still make it. Leave these enemies to me."
As he spoke, Karna's lithe frame trembled, his golden armor quaking. His face showed strain as powerful mana and flames gathered around him.
"Are you serious?"
Seeing Karna stand resolute, Quetzalcoatl's expression was one of disbelief.
She knew Karna was among the top Servants, but facing over a dozen Demon God Pillars, plus a monstrous beast like Humbaba, which even she found troublesome, was another matter.
If Karna faced them alone, the outcome…
"I'm serious… Quetzalcoatl, go now. Escort those soldiers to Uruk."
"Leave these enemies to me…"
Before finishing, Karna's body was enveloped in solar flames.
Trembling, he gazed at the pillars, his eyes blazing. A searing beam infused with Brahma's power intercepted their attacks.
Clutching his eyes, his body shaking as if suppressing something, Karna roared at Quetzalcoatl, "Go now, Quetzalcoatl!! I'll handle these enemies!! Trust me, I won't let them pursue you."
"But… what about you?"
Sensing Karna's actions and the changes in his aura, Quetzalcoatl couldn't help but ask.
"As for me… it doesn't matter. This is the task my Master gave me, and I'll complete it, even if it costs my life!!"
"If you can, please tell an Archer named Arjuna in Uruk that I'm sorry, I might have to break our promise for this battle."
"…"
Looking at Karna, who had made his resolve, she was at a loss for words.
Though she wanted to dissuade him, she couldn't speak.
"Now, go! For our Master's orders and the battles ahead, these Demon God Pillars will be a massive threat to Uruk's Demonic Front if they reach the battlefield. So I'll… take as many of them with me as I can!!"
With his words, the mana and flames on Karna's golden armor erupted fully.
