Chapter 34: 34. Shadows of Destiny
Ling Tian stood at the precipice of the ancient ruin, his azure-gold aura pulsating like the heartbeat of the world itself. The Vanquished Throne loomed before him, shrouded in mystery, its presence both alluring and terrifying.
Xu Qing'er, her silver eyes reflecting the endless cosmos, stepped forward. "You feel it too, don't you? This place... it remembers."
Ling Tian's gaze hardened. "It's not just memory. Something here is waiting." He clenched his fist, feeling the weight of fate pressing against him. His cultivation had evolved beyond mere realms; it was tied to the very essence of the Myriad Worlds. The golden inscriptions on the walls flickered, whispering secrets lost to time.
Suddenly, the ground trembled. A rift opened, revealing a spectral figure clad in celestial armor. Its eyes burned with a violet flame, ancient and filled with sorrow.
"The Sovereign of Two Fates has returned…" the figure murmured. "You have walked the path of destruction and rebirth. Now, choose—will you uphold destiny or defy it?"
Ling Tian smirked. "I don't believe in fate. I carve my own path."
The figure let out a hollow laugh. "Then prove it. Survive." With a wave of its hand, the ruins shifted, forming an illusory battlefield. Shadows of long-dead warriors emerged, their swords gleaming with spectral energy.
Xu Qing'er's fingers curled around the hilt of her sword. "I'll stand with you."
Ling Tian glanced at her, a flicker of something unreadable in his eyes. "Stay close. This battle isn't just about strength—it's about the truth hidden within these ruins."
The battle erupted in a flash of light and fury. Ling Tian's azure-gold energy clashed against the spectral warriors, his movements fluid yet overwhelming. With each strike, his weapon radiated the power of both sovereignty and rebellion, a paradox that made him unstoppable.
Xu Qing'er danced between the phantoms, her blade singing as it cut through illusions and reality alike. "Ling Tian, these warriors—they are fragments of a past forgotten! They're testing you!"
Ling Tian's eyes narrowed. If this was a test, then he would break it apart with his own hands.
Summoning his full might, he unleashed a technique that defied comprehension. "Vanquished Throne—Sovereign's Judgment!" His aura expanded, engulfing the battlefield in a golden storm. The phantoms cried out as they were erased from existence, leaving only silence in their wake.
The celestial figure nodded, its violet eyes dimming. "You have chosen defiance. The path ahead will not be kind, Sovereign of Two Fates. But remember—love and sacrifice are but two sides of the same coin. One day, you will be forced to choose."
Ling Tian remained silent as the figure faded. The ruins settled, their secrets still locked away, but a piece of the puzzle had been uncovered.
Xu Qing'er placed a hand on his arm. "What now?"
Ling Tian exhaled, his gaze distant. "We move forward. The answers won't reveal themselves, but I'll tear them from the shadows if I must."
As they stepped beyond the ruins, the stars above seemed to shift, as if fate itself was watching. But Ling Tian didn't care. He was no mere pawn. He was the one who would rewrite destiny.
And nothing would stop him.
