Chapter 144: There is no love for a human!
As Sakura watched her beloved senior leaving the house without even glancing back at her, she noticed how his broad shoulders, which once carried confidence, were now slumped down as if an invisible weight pressed upon them.
His head hung low, and his face… oh god, she didn't even want to see it now.
Sakura felt like something inside her had shattered into pieces. She had never seen her senior like this. He had always been such a cheerful person, no matter what was thrown his way. No matter the problem, he would just smile and stand tall with pride, like nothing could shake him.
And yet… this was her first time witnessing him broken. Broken not because of life, not because of fate, but because of her own parents.
She turned, glaring at her parents with eyes that trembled with both rage and sorrow.
"Do you have any idea of what you have done?"
Adrian shrugged with the same indifference that had made her blood boil, while Evelina merely frowned and answered in a calm, "Dear, we know what we've done… we just saved you from getting hurt."
Sakura clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms.
Her whole body shook as she spat her words, "Saved me from getting hurt?" She gritted her teeth,
"What the hell are you even saying, Mother? Saving my heart? You didn't save it....
You crushed it!! You destroyed it with your own hands!!"
Evelina's tone sharpened as she tried to justify herself,
"Yes, after all, he is a human who couldn't live past eighty years. And do you want us to accept that for you? What happens after those eighty years are gone? Do you want us to watch our daughter become a widow, rotting away in grief? We don't have the heart to watch that, Sakura!!"
Sakura's jaw trembled with fury, "I… I cannot believe you did this. So what if he is a human?!" Her voice cracked as she shouted, her throat tightening with tears. "He is a human I lov—"
"SAKURA!!" Adrian's voice roared through the room like thunder. His eyes glowed dangerously as he shouted at his daughter.
"There is no love for a human!!"
Sakura flinched. Tears welled up and rolled down her cheeks, streaming uncontrollably. "I… I hate you… I hate you all!!!" she screamed, the words echoing through the walls before she turned and ran back to her room.
Adrian staggered slightly as he clutched his chest, the force of her words stabbing into him like spears.
'M-My lovely little girl… h-hates me?' His thoughts stumbled in disbelief.
Even though he had convinced himself he was doing his best for her, even though everything he did was for her sake… his daughter hated him?
Why?
Evelina glanced at their daughter running back before shifting her eyes toward Luna, who stood silently. Luna gave a faint nod and followed Sakura.
Evelina turned back to her husband, placing her hand gently on his back as she spoke in a soft, coaxing tone,
"Dear, it's fine… she's at the age where she acts rebellious. Don't worry yourself too much. Once she gets past this phase, she will understand that what we've done was truly a blessing in disguise."
Adrian bit his lip so hard as he lowered his head and pressed his fingers against his forehead.
"I've never shouted at her like this before… never. But honestly, I almost lost myself when I saw her with that human.
That pathetic bug!!
Do you know how much I wanted to rip that bastard apart with my bare hands?!" His fist tightened until blood dripped slowly from his palm, marking the floor.
Evelina leaned in closer, smiling gently despite his fury. She pressed her lips to his forehead with tenderness, whispering sweetly into his ear, "I know and... My darling did his best to hold back… so cute~" Her tone shifted, a soft purr that tried to soothe his anger.
Adrian snorted, the sound sharp, but a faint blush betrayed him as he shook his head slightly. "Anyway… I know she hates me now—"
"Please don't say that," Evelina interrupted firmly, her voice serious now. "She never hates us. She's angry, hurt, yes, but hatred? No. Just give her time, Adrian. She will understand."
"Hmm…." Adrian exhaled through his nose, nodding slowly, "Well then, I will go and get the item she wanted."
Evelina's eyes narrowed slightly, "But it was just a lie to send us out."
Adrian smiled gently, "Even so… she asked for it. And as her father, I will always keep my promises!" as he turned and walked out of the room with firm, deliberate strides, every step echoing the pride of a man who refused to fail his child.
Evelina watched him leave with a gentle smile playing on her lips.
No matter how harsh his words sounded moments ago, no matter how furious his temper had burned, she could see it clearly now... he loved his daughter far too much.
Too much for his own good.
When the door closed behind him, Evelina let out a weary sigh. Her eyes drifted upward toward the second floor. She rubbed the bridge of her nose with delicate fingers, muttering under her breath, "How am I going to deal with this?"
Meanwhile, in Sakura's room…
"Sakura… please," Luna whispered as she stood beside the bed. She watched helplessly as Sakura buried her face deep into the pillow, her cries muffled and echoed in the room.
This...This was exactly why Luna hated Leo.
Not the kind that burned like fire, but a bitter resentment toward what he brought into Sakura's life.
She hated him for this moment, for this pain, because deep down she had always known it would come.
One way or another, Leo was destined to bring Sakura heartbreak.
Luna, as a trained servant of the Valentine family, had been taught the rules from the beginning. She understood better than anyone that Leo could never, ever truly be with Sakura.
That was an unwritten law, an invisible line that could never be crossed... And because she knew it, she had tried—again and again—to stop them, to keep them from growing too close.
She did her best to pull them apart, to shield Sakura from the storm she saw coming.
And yet… despite all her efforts, Sakura had fallen for that boy.
It baffled Luna.
In fact, Sakura had never shown the slightest interest in boys before.
If one were to describe her properly, one might even say she leaned the other way—drawn to girls, not in a romantic or sexual manner, but in a natural, instinctive pull. She found comfort in them.
She felt safe among them.
That was why Sakura had always been surrounded by girls, why her circle of friends consisted entirely of them.
Because Sakura hated the way boys looked at her. The way their eyes drifted shamelessly to her chest, the way their stares stripped her dignity as if she were nothing more than an object for them.
That was why she despised chatting with boys, why she avoided them whenever possible.
The girls, however, acted as her shield. They surrounded her like a protective wall, laughing with her, holding her close, making sure she was never exposed to the ugliness of unwanted gazes... And Sakura cherished them for that.
She loved her girlfriends deeply, not out of passion, but out of gratitude for the safety they brought her.
But everything changed one day…
Sakura, muffled under the pillow with tears staining her face, remembered it vividly. That single day when her world tilted, when the lines she had drawn for herself blurred, and when her life changed as if by magic.
