Chapter 43: Chapter 42: The First Time I Met Tokisaki Kurumi
Tobiichi Origami's icy-blue eyes remained locked onto the burning ground, her grip tightening around her weapon. A second later, and she would have been incinerated.
Nearby, Ryouko Kusakabe frowned. Their mission had been clear—eliminate the Spirit known as "Princess," Yatogami Tohka. But the real problem wasn't just her anymore.
It was him.
Standing between AST and their target, Ryuu held his ground, his crimson eyes glowing faintly.
Tohka turned to him, her expression torn between confusion and disbelief.
"Why… why are you helping me?"
Ryuu let out a short laugh.
"I just don't like these guys getting in my way. Besides, you're already on my list."
"H-Huh?" Tohka blinked. "What do you mean, list?!"
He grinned. "You'll understand soon enough."
Before Tohka could process his words, Ryuu turned his back to her.
"You should get out of here," he said. "Next time we meet, we'll finish this fight."
"...We'll meet again?"
"Obviously. You make too much noise—whether I like it or not, I'll find you again."
Tohka hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Okay! That's a promise!"
With that, her Astral Dress shimmered, and she vanished into a cascade of light particles.
AST watched in frustration as their primary target escaped. But despite their anger, none of them dared attack Ryuu, not after witnessing his power firsthand.
Before anyone could react further, a sudden crash caught everyone's attention.
From the rubble of a collapsed building, Shiori Itsuka staggered forward, dust covering her school uniform.
"...Shiori!"
Tobiichi Origami's voice was filled with shock. "Why are you here?! You should be in the underground shelter!"
Shiori froze upon seeing Origami's AST suit, and an awkward silence settled between them.
Ryouko Kusakabe, watching the situation, made a quick decision. "We're pulling out!"
Origami hesitated but ultimately obeyed, giving Shiori one last glance before retreating with AST.
Now, only Ryuu and Shiori remained.
Just as Ryuu was about to speak—Shiori suddenly vanished.
His eyes widened. "What—?"
Focusing his Clairvoyance, Ryuu quickly scanned the area. Within seconds, he located her—onboard Fraxinus, floating in the sky.
"Tch. Looks like Ratatoskr took her."
Ryuu clicked his tongue. He couldn't fly—unless he pushed his Blood Rage to its fourth level, but that drained too much energy.
After a moment's thought, he dropped the idea.
"Fine. I'll deal with that later."
For now, his priority was gathering intel on the other Spirits.

Later That Night – Streets of Tenguu City
The city had already begun recovering from the Spacequake. Residents emerged from shelters, returning to their daily routines as if nothing had happened.
"Like clockwork," Ryuu muttered, watching as construction workers set up barriers around destroyed buildings.
He walked aimlessly through the streets, aware that someone was tailing him.
His Clairvoyance had already picked up the presence. Someone stealthy, someone experienced in moving through shadows.
But no matter how many times he looked over his shoulder, he saw nothing.
His lips curled into a smirk. "Heh. So that's how it is."
Turning a corner, Ryuu deliberately led his stalker into a deserted alleyway.
After a few seconds, light footsteps echoed behind him.
A voice, smooth and playful, broke the silence.
"My, my~ I was certain I had hidden well."
Ryuu turned slowly.
Standing before him was a girl dressed in an elaborate Gothic Lolita outfit. Her black dress fluttered slightly, her twin ponytails swayed, and her heterochromatic eyes—one golden, the other an ominous red clock—gleamed in the dim light.
Tokisaki Kurumi.
The most dangerous Spirit.
Ryuu wasn't surprised. If anything, he had been expecting her.
Kurumi tilted her head, placing a delicate finger to her lips. "Fufu~ To think you noticed me so quickly. You truly are an interesting one, Ryuu-kun."
He didn't answer. Instead, his hand moved instinctively, summoning the Blade of Rebellion and pressing its sharp edge against her neck.
"Why are you following me?" His voice was calm, but firm.
Kurumi let out a soft, amused giggle. "Oh my, how aggressive~ I do enjoy a strong man, but this is a bit sudden, don't you think?"
"If I were you, I wouldn't move," Ryuu warned. "I know what you are."
A flicker of surprise crossed Kurumi's face, but it was quickly replaced by an all-too-pleased smile.
"Oho? You know I'm a Spirit?"
"I don't just know," he said, narrowing his eyes. "I know exactly how dangerous you are."
Kurumi let out a mock gasp, feigning innocence. "How cruel~ I haven't even done anything yet."
Ryuu wasn't buying it. He knew her reputation—Tokisaki Kurumi, the Spirit who controls time itself. If he let his guard down for even a second, he'd end up riddled with bullets before he could blink.
And speaking of bullets—
Bang!
In an instant, a duplicate Kurumi appeared behind him, gun aimed directly at his back.
"How rude," the clone pouted, cocking the weapon. "Drawing your sword against a lady… You should be punished for that."
Ryuu moved instantly, leaping away just before she could fire.
A gunshot rang out, but he was already mid-air.
"Second Stage: Flames of Purgatory!"
A torrent of black flames erupted from his hand, consuming the clone and forcing the real Kurumi to retreat.
Kurumi sighed, lowering her pistol. "Ara, ara~ You really don't play fair."
Ryuu adjusted his grip on his sword. "Says the one trying to shoot me in the back."
She laughed, twirling a lock of hair between her fingers. "Touche~ But you're even more intriguing than I expected."
For a brief moment, Kurumi fell silent, as if debating something in her mind. Then, slowly, she stepped forward.
"I know that you are looking for 'family,'" she said, her voice taking on a dangerous yet seductive tone.
Ryuu tensed, but didn't lower his weapon.
Kurumi suddenly closed the distance between them, placing a hand against his chest.
Her crimson eye glowed, the gears of her clock ticking softly.
"How about this, Ryuu-kun?" she whispered, her lips curving into a smile full of hidden intent.
"If you're looking for a Spirit to join you…"
She leaned in, her breath warm against his skin.
"Then why not take me?"
(Ps: For those that are confused how she knows that he's looking for "servent"/"family", one should know that she's the spirit that controls time and has the ability to go back and forth in between time so maybe he mentioned it in some timeline that isn't shown here.)
