Fate of Fateless

Chapter 15: The beginning of Ascent

One by one, the family members dispersed into the stone-carved chambers of the ancient duchy. The Eye of Selune had been sealed. Oaths were spoken. Fear buried beneath layers of silence.

But sleep would not come easily.

Especially not to the old lion.

Duke Lionheart Originus, once hailed as the Sword of the Empire, sat alone in his candlelit study, rubbing the ridge of a scar along his brow. His breath was slow. Measured.

Then the knock came.

Soft. Too soft for any servant.

He opened the door and found him—Chris Originus, standing silently beneath the dim hall torch.

The boy's silver-blue eyes held no childish wonder.

"Grandfather," he said plainly, "I want to become strong. Strong enough to protect everyone. Will you teach me?"

For a moment, the old Duke only looked at him. The shadows from the torch played against his weathered face.

Then he stepped aside.

"At dawn," Lionheart said, "you will follow me. If you endure, I'll make you a knight in your own right—not just by blood, but by will."

Chris nodded. No smile. Just silent resolve.

Next morning , just as chris was about enter training ground his mother with a very serious look and said

"you are still young why do you want to train ? "

and then he replied and told her something that he never told anyone .

Her mother , then knelt and gave him a hug and then sent him for training .

The private training grounds of Lionheart Originus were untouched by time.

Encircled by obsidian walls, blessed by old runes of endurance, this hidden courtyard had seen the rise of emperors, the fall of tyrants, and battles that history never dared to record.

It was here that Lionheart waited, clad in aged but immaculate armor, his back as straight as ever.

Chris entered with quiet steps, his short silver hair catching the morning light. In his small hand, he held a practice sword half his size.

"Before we train," Lionheart said, turning to face him, "you must understand the path. The journey of a knight is not just of muscle—it is the climb through the gates of the world itself."

He knelt beside Chris and drew lines in the dust with his finger.

"These are the Knight Realms—each one a wall few can cross."

Normal Knight – forged through effort and discipline.

Novice – when one begins to harness aura.

Soldier – strength and stamina fused with soul intent.

Captain – the mind, soul, and body align.

Spirit Knight – aura extends beyond the self.

Soul Knight – the soul become dneser.

King Knight – rare; a force equal to armies.

Emperor Knight – only six exist in the Empire.

Demi-God – myth, bordering the divine.

God Knight – never reached, for the world rejects perfection.

For magic path,

There is

1 star mage

2nd star mage

3rd star mage

4th star mage

5 th star mage

6th star mage

Legendary archmage -7 star

And last that no one reached which is 8 star

Chris listened. Every word etched itself into him like scripture.

"Now," Lionheart said, "let me see your mana."

The boy closed his eyes.

He did as his mother had once instructed —focused inward, sought the core where mana should dwell.

But what emerged wasn't mana.

It was something purer.

A wind stirred the dust.

The runes around the training ground trembled.

The grass bowed in reverence.

From the boy's body leaked a radiance that felt ancient and untouched—neither divine nor demonic, yet more complete than either.

Lionheart's eyes widened.

"This… this isn't mana," he whispered. "It's… origin. Mana before it became corrupted by the world's laws. Untamed. Unnamed."

The air grew heavier, yet the boy stood calm.

"Will this help me protect them?" Chris asked.

Lionheart placed a hand on his shoulder, not as a grandfather—but as a knight before a force he could barely understand.

"If you can wield it… nothing will stand in your way."

The training had begun.

Not of a knight.

But of something the world had long forgotten
