Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Illya's Meals, Let Me Be the One to Change Them!
In the large kitchen, Sella strictly followed the recipe to make a highly nutritious lunch.
For Illya's health, as her housekeeper, she gave her all.
———
[Illya's Private Bedroom]
The wind and snow howled outside the window.
On the freshly changed pink bedding, Illya hugged a teddy bear, kicking her fair little feet, teasing the bear's eyes, arms, and calves. Occasionally she would bend them into angles no human could make.
As if imagining the teddy bear full of resentment.
When tired, she would prop her cheek and gaze at the snowy scene outside.
When Kiritsugu was around, Illya used to like playing in the snow.
She had made all sorts of promises with Kiritsugu and Irisviel, and waited for them to come back here.
Year after year, from hope to disappointment, from disappointment to despair, from despair to darkness.
Even being alone was fine, Illya was strong. Stronger than Kiritsugu, stronger than Irisviel, stronger than anyone. So even alone was no problem.
'That Servant, Illya will never acknowledge!'
"Illya-sama," The door was gently knocked. Outside was Sella, cautiously.
She had already noticed, Illya had quite a bit of resentment toward the newly summoned Servant. And she didn't know why.
"Come in," Illya threw the teddy bear away like tossing garbage and sat upright.
Sella opened the door and entered with a tray.
"Eh, these again?", Looking at the spaghetti in the bowl, the vegetable soup, and the broccoli, carrots, onions mixed in the noodles, Illya really couldn't muster any interest.
"Why are we eating this stuff every day, Sella?"
"Illya-sama," Sella answered solemnly, "according to the recipe, this is the most nutritious."
"Again with the nutrition," Illya sighed, "Eating this every day hasn't made me any taller."
"That's because…"
"Forget it," Illya picked up a fork, twirled up some pasta, and forced herself to eat it despite her stomach's protests.
After swallowing a bite of spaghetti, under Sella's expectant gaze, she struggled to pierce a bright orange carrot, opened her small mouth, and bit into it.
"By the way, Sella," After finishing that carrot bite, Illya hesitated, "That Servant… did you give him any food?"
As Illya enjoyed the meal she had prepared, Sella was full of satisfaction. Placing her hand on her cheek, she doted as she replied, "Illya-sama, don't worry. Servants are similar to familiars, they only need magical energy to survive."
"Won't he get hungry?", Illya asked.
"Um…", Sella was stunned, then hesitantly said, "Probably not… maybe?"
Illya fell silent, then sighed, "Sella, make something for that guy too. Don't let him starve."
"O-Okay," Sella was dazed for a moment, then nodded, "Since Illya-sama is so kind, then let him have a taste of my cooking."
Sella confidently left.
Liz, who was eating slowly next to Illya, only spoke once Sella was far enough, "Sella… cooking… not good!"
Illya nodded deeply in agreement.
———
In the kitchen, Sella was cooking like crazy, mumbling to herself, "Servants should eat a lot, right?"
She made three pounds of mashed potatoes, brown rice with vegetables, believing that Servant would be endlessly grateful to Illya.
Struggling to carry the food, Sella hummed her favorite tune as she headed to the basement.
Shirou had already sensed Sella's presence from far away.
A Servant's body really was sharp.
Sella burst in carelessly, "Berserker! This time you better be grateful to Illya-sama. She was worried you'd starve to death, so she specially told me, the head maid, to make food for you."
"Just accept it with a grateful heart."
Looking at Sella proudly placing the food on the ground, Shirou was speechless.
"Excuse me, how am I supposed to eat like this?"
Honestly, he was a bit hungry, though Servants weren't supposed to feel hunger.
'Could it be because I haven't died?'
'If that's the case, ain't I the same as the ahoge queen, able to replenish magical energy through food?'
"What a hassle!", Sella grumbled, "You're a Servant and you can't even break free from one iron chain?"
"Let me clarify first," Shirou said calmly, "It's not that I can't break free. I just don't want to cause Illya backlash from something so meaningless."
"Who'd believe that?", Sella snorted coldly.
Shirou didn't bother explaining, "Just tell me how to eat. I'm hungry."
"A Servant who really gets hungry?", Sella was a little shocked. That wasn't what they had been taught.
"How rude," Shirou looked at her, "Servants were once human. And humans get hungry."
"What nonsense, you're a Servant now, not human," Sella was expressionless.
"Whatever," Shirou didn't mind, "Just tell me how to eat."
"Break the chains," Sella suggested. She had the key, but without Illya's orders, she couldn't unlock him.
Besides, the guy in front of her was a Berserker. Even if he seemed rational. Who knew what he might do once freed?
What if he dragged her into some strange scenario?
"Then feed me," Shirou gave up communicating.
"..."
"What, can't do it?"
This line should have had a provocative tone, but forgive Shirou, he only had one expression.
Which was: expressionless.
"Seriously, why summon a Servant like you? What if you hold Illya-sama back later?", Sella said as she bluntly opened the food pouch, took out the mashed potatoes, and picked up a silver spoon.
If comparing what shone more, the silver spoon or Sella's skin, Shirou thought it had to be Sella.
After all, it was a beautiful girl's skin, just looking at it made him hungry.
"Eat up," Sella's tone wasn't impatient. As a servant, she had her own dignity.
But in terms of actions, she was absolutely impatient. The spoon was practically jammed into Shirou's eye.
"If the lighting's bad, turn on a lamp. If your eyes are the issue, go get them fixed. If you've got no sense of distance, get a ruler."
"And finally, please place it directly into my mouth. Thank you."
"You… are you really a Berserker?", Sella was doubtful.
'Since when did Berserkers talk this much?'
"Guaranteed genuine," Shirou's eyes were indifferent, "Also, hurry and put it in my mouth. The food's getting cold."
This time, Sella didn't mess around. She steadily placed the food in Shirou's mouth.
'This Servant is… kind of interesting.'
'Why doesn't Illya-sama like him?'
"Tastes awful."
"…What did you say?", Sella suspected her ears were hallucinating.
"I said, this mashed potato tastes terrible. Don't tell me Illya eats this every day?"
Sella's pale, bloodless yet crystal-clear lips twitched.
Retracting what she just said, 'This Servant's personality is absolute garbage!'
Recommendation: 'Illya-sama should get a replacement.'
"Answer me. Is Illya eating this too?", Shirou's tone was still extremely calm, but Sella could feel an oppressive pressure.
"No way, Illya-sama eats even more nutritious food," Sella rebutted, "I was considering the Servant's larger food intake…"
"Illya's food, is it cooked by you?"
"Of course," Sella puffed up her chest.
"Unlock it."
"…What?"
"The chain. Unlock it," Shirou's face was expressionless.
"I swear on the true name I've forgotten, Illya's meals, let me be the one to change them!" [T/N: Lol]
