Chapter 78: Do the same to me
The next morning, they woke early. The air inside the dungeon was still and cool, carrying the faint smell of damp stone and moss. Droplets of water clung to the jagged ceiling, occasionally falling and splashing against the rock.
The faintest traces of light filtered through cracks above, pale and distant, but it was enough for everyone to know that morning had arrived.
They were eager to finish. Their plan was simple, complete the remaining chambers of the dungeon, claim whatever rewards might still be hidden within, and leave as soon as possible.
The oppressive feeling of being underground for so long weighed on all of them, and though they had grown used to the shadows and the strange, muted sounds, the idea of open skies and fresh air pulled at their thoughts.
However, Sun was still asleep. He lay on his bedroll, one arm draped across his chest, breathing slow and steady as though the dangers of yesterday had never existed.
No one dared to disturb him. As their leader, he had made it clear the night before that they would move only when he gave the signal.
One of the boys sat up, rubbing his eyes. "You know," he began slowly, stretching his arms until his joints popped, "it's strange. After all this time, I don't even feel hungry."
The statement made several others pause.
"That's true," another added after a moment's thought. "It's been… what, more than a day? We haven't eaten, but my stomach feels fine."
The realization passed through the group in murmurs. Some frowned, others looked at their hands or flexed their fingers as though testing their strength.
"The dungeon must be doing something," a girl muttered, glancing around at the walls as if they might answer her. "Some kind of effect that dampens hunger. Maybe to keep challengers focused.
There was no real way to confirm it, but no one doubted it either. The absence of hunger was a relief. It meant one less discomfort to deal with. For a moment, their tense faces softened in gratitude.
They settled into a quiet rhythm while waiting. Some leaned against the walls, conserving energy. Others spoke in low voices, their words echoing faintly in the stone chamber. The stillness was almost unnatural after the chaos of battle, and it made the dungeon feel larger, as if the darkness itself was listening.
Jae sat a little apart from the rest, elbows resting on his knees. He watched them without speaking, letting their conversation fade into background noise.
Beside him, Elise was seated with her back against the wall, her attention buried in a thick, well-worn book of healers' techniques. She turned the pages with careful precision, her expression calm and focused, as though the danger of their surroundings didn't exist.
It was then that Yuna approached. Her steps were unhurried but purposeful, and Jae noticed her long before she reached him.
"Come with me," she said simply, stopping in front of where he sat.
Jae raised his head, his brow furrowing slightly. "We'll be leaving soon."
Yuna glanced toward her still-sleeping brother, then back at Jae with a small scoff. "Sun won't be up for at least another thirty minutes. That's more than enough time for us."
Her voice carried a faintly teasing lilt, but her eyes held something more determined.
Jae already suspected where this was going. "Yuna…" he started, his tone cautious, though his voice lacked its usual firmness.
She didn't give him time to finish. Her hand closed around his wrist, cool but insistent, and she gave a gentle tug that was more command than request. "You can't say no to me," she said, and without waiting for agreement, she began leading him toward the mouth of the cave
He hesitated for half a second, glancing back over his shoulder. Elise had looked up from her book at the movement. For a heartbeat, their eyes locked, hers calm yet unreadable. He swallowed and turned away, letting Yuna guide him out.
They moved down the narrow passage that led away from the main chamber. The air here was cooler, carrying the faint sound of dripping water somewhere deep in the stone. Shadows clung to the walls, and their footsteps echoed softly, the sound fading into the unseen distance.
Eventually, Yuna brought him into a smaller side cave. The ceiling dipped lower, and the space felt closed off, private. Only a thin trace of light from the main cavern reached here, enough to faintly outline their shapes.
She turned to face him, her lips curling into a knowing frown . "I know what you did with Elise yesterday."
Jae's mouth quirked in response, his expression caught between amusement and challenge. "Is that so?"
"Yes," she said firmly, her gaze not wavering for even a second. "And I want you to do it to me as well."
Before he could answer, she stepped closer, closing the space between them. Her presence was deliberate, her movements confident.
"Yuna…" His voice was low, almost careful. He raised a hand slightly, not to push her away but as though trying to slow the moment down. "I don't want our first time to be here. This place…" He let his gaze travel briefly over the damp stone walls and uneven ground. "It's not right."
Her expression softened, but her eyes still burned with intent. "I don't care about first times, Jae. What matters to me is constantly being with you. That's all I want. And I'll take whatever time I can get."
She stepped into him fully now, her arms sliding around his back in a warm, almost desperate embrace. Her hair brushed his cheek, carrying the faint, sweet scent of her perfume, remarkable for someone who had spent the last day fighting monsters in a dungeon. Her grip was firm, as though letting go wasn't an option.
Jae's hands hovered for a moment before settling lightly on her shoulders. His thoughts tangled quickly, part of him recalling Elise's calm gaze from earlier, part of him aware that Yuna wasn't someone easily refused.
She tilted her head back just enough to meet his eyes again. "You've been with her," she said quietly, though her words carried more edge than sorrow. "I won't stand by and watch while she gets more of you than I do."
