Farmboy becomes King with the Lust System

Chapter 43: Byun’s fight

The grand hall pulsed with energy, the air thick with the mingled scents of polished wood, faint mana, and the nervous sweat of the 100 students seated in the special section along the side.

The tournament's first day had begun, and the massive chamber buzzed with the roars of the crowd, students from every class packed into the stands, their voices a chaotic tide under the glowing orbs strung across the high ceiling.

With one hundred students competing, there were fifty fights to get through in the first round, each one flashing by in a blur of clashing weapons, glowing magic, and strong moves that made Jae's stomach twist with worry.

These fighters are tough, he thought, his fingers tapping nervously on his leg, his heart racing as he realized just how many skilled opponents were in his class, each one a challenge he'd have to face.

The fifteenth fight was called, the announcer's voice booming through the hall, carried by a soft hum of magic that made it echo in every corner.

Jae leaned forward in his seat, his eyes glued to the arena as Byun's name rang out, bouncing off the stone walls. His friend walked out with confidence, his blond hair shining under the golden light, his grin easy and carefree, like he was heading to a regular class instead of a big tournament fight.

His opponent, a red-haired kid named Caen, stepped up, his face a mix of nerves and grit, his green eyes darting as he clenched his fists tightly, his knuckles turning white.

Jae's interest spiked, his heart beating faster with curiosity, Byun was ranked number one, the best in their class, and Jae wanted to know what made him so special. What makes him so good? he wondered, his eyes narrowing as he watched closely, the crowd's cheers fading into a quiet, tense buzz as the fight started.

Caen went first, his plan clear: keep Byun on his toes, stopping him from attacking. His body sparked with electric energy, tiny bolts flashing across his skin, and he threw a fast kick, sending sharp streaks of lightning racing across the arena toward Byun like a storm let loose.

The wooden floor crackled where the bolts hit, the air buzzing with a sharp, electric hum that made Jae's skin tingle. Byun didn't even blink, moving with calm, easy steps, dodging each bolt by stepping lightly to the side, his boots barely touching the smooth floor.

The crowd whispered in amazement, their voices a soft hum of surprise, and Jae's eyes widened, his breath catching as he saw Byun's smooth, effortless moves.

He's not even trying hard, Jae thought, his heart pounding with a mix of wonder and a bit of jealousy, wanting to figure out Byun's secret to being so good.

Caen didn't give up, charging forward with blazing speed, each step sending bursts of electric energy that cracked the arena floor, the sound ringing out like little thunderclaps through the hall.

His fists glowed with buzzing sparks, aiming fast punches at Byun's chest, each one strong enough to knock someone out. But Byun slipped past the first punch with a small tilt of his body, barely moving, his grin staying steady, full of easy confidence.

Dark, smoky shadows curled around him, twisting from his hands like they were alive. With a quick touch to Caen's arm, a faint pulse of shadow magic flowed out. Caen's arm went limp right away, falling uselessly to his side, his green eyes going wide with shock and fear.

"What's that?" he gasped, his voice sharp with panic, but Byun was already moving, spinning low with smooth, quick steps. His shadows sliced across Caen's left leg like dark knives, making Caen's leg give out.

He dropped to one knee with a groan, his face twisting with pain and anger, unable to stand.

The students in the stands started whispering louder, their voices a soft buzz of amazement and disbelief as they watched Caen get taken apart.

Jae caught bits of their talk.. "Byun's tearing him up," "Caen's got no shot" and his stomach tightened, feeling both respect and worry as he saw how much better Byun was than everyone else.

Up in the teachers' section, Ms. Alira leaned toward Mr. Han, her voice quiet but excited, her eyes shining with interest. "He's picking Caen apart bit by bit, like it's nothing," she said, her tone full of admiration.

Han nodded, his arms crossed, his voice low. "Byun's control is something else," he said, sounding impressed even if he didn't want to admit it.

Jae's eyes flicked back to the arena, his mind racing to figure out Byun's moves, knowing he'd need to match that skill to have any chance in the tournament.

Caen, looking desperate and shaken, struggled back to his feet, his face pale as he forced his leg to move by pumping it with buzzing electric energy.

He swung his right arm hard, sending a wave of lightning bolts at Byun, the streaks flashing through the air like tiny storms, their light bouncing off the arena's shiny walls, lighting up the hall in quick bursts.

But Byun moved like a shadow, sliding smoothly from spot to spot, his body a blur as he dodged every attack with annoying ease.

His shadows twisted and moved, wrapping around Caen's body bit by bit, making his shoulder, his leg, and his wrist go numb with each touch. Caen's moves slowed down, his face getting paler, his lightning bolts growing weaker with every miss, his strength fading fast.

The crowd's whispers got louder, some students leaning forward in their seats, others shaking their heads, all caught up in the fight.

Caen, breathing hard, threw one last wild attack, swinging his arm in a big arc to send a final bolt of lightning at Byun, the air hissing with its power.

But Byun vanished in a quick flash of shadow, gone one second and reappearing behind Caen the next, his voice calm but teasing.

"Too slow," he said, his grin clear even without seeing his face. Caen spun around, his arm swinging back to try another lightning strike, his face twisted with effort and frustration.

But Byun was faster, moving like a blur as he landed a quick, sharp elbow to Caen's forehead. The hit echoed through the hall, a loud crack that made the crowd go quiet for a moment.

Caen's eyes rolled back, his body dropping to the arena floor, out cold, his form lying still on the polished wood.

The crowd exploded with cheers and gasps, the noise hitting Jae like a wave, his heart pounding hard, his mind spinning from Byun's incredible skill.

That's why he's number one, he thought
