Chapter 39: level up/new monsters
Jae lay sprawled across his bed, the familiar creak of the mattress echoing in the quiet dorm room, his body warm and pleasantly tired from another intimate session with Elise.
The air carried a faint trace of her floral perfume, mingling with the clean scent of his soap, and the dim torchlight from the hallway seeped under the door, casting soft shadows on the stone walls.
His chest rose and fell, a satisfied smile tugging at his lips as he basked in the afterglow, his mind replaying Elise's soft laughs and bold touches.
The Lust System's familiar ding broke through his thoughts, a glowing panel appearing before his eyes: +40 Lust Points. His grin widened a nice reward for their night together.
He sat up, the blanket slipping to his waist, and opened the system interface, the green glow illuminating his face in the dark room.
His fingers hovered, his heart beating with anticipation as he decided to allocate the points evenly, pouring 10 into each stat, Strength, Speed, Stamina, Perception, bringing them all to a perfect 100.
A new notification flashed, brighter than usual:
<Level-Up Available! Proceed?>
Jae's breath caught, his eyes widening. Level 2 finally. He clicked Yes without hesitation, and a warm rush surged through his body, like a wave of energy knitting his muscles tighter.
His stats reset to 10 each, the numbers glowing in the panel, but he didn't feel weaker, his limbs still thrummed with the same strength, his senses sharp as ever.
The system chimed again, listing the perks of Level 2: his Mana Blade's cooldown dropped to just five minutes, as did all his skills, Gravity Touch, Phantom Step, everything.
He also unlocked two more Refresh Elixirs, their icons gleaming in his inventory, and a new challenge: Level 2 monsters, tougher and deadlier than the spiders he'd been slicing through.
Jae leaned back, his smile broadening, a mix of pride and excitement bubbling in his chest. This is big, he thought, imagining the power he'd wield in the tournament. He was ready.

That night, Jae slipped out of the dorm, the cool air biting his skin as he made his way to the cave, the familiar path lit by moonlight filtering through the trees. The scent of pine and damp earth filled his lungs, his boots crunching on loose gravel as he steeled himself for what lay ahead. The cave's entrance loomed, a dark maw in the hillside, and as he stepped inside, the air turned cold and musty, the faint drip of water echoing off the jagged walls.
The Lust System chimed, its green glow lighting the darkness:
<Quest: Defeat the Boss Monster. Reward: Mana Breastplate Armor.>
Jae's heart skipped, a flicker of fear creeping in. A boss monster? He'd fought spiders and bats before, but this was new, and the unknown made his stomach twist. What am I walking into? he thought, gripping his fists, his breath visible in the chilly air.
He ventured deeper, the cave's walls narrowing, the damp stone slick under his boots. His eyes adjusted to the dim glow of bioluminescent moss, his senses sharp from his Level 2 upgrade. Two spiders scuttled from the shadows, their legs clicking, their eyes glinting like tiny red jewels.
Two spiders scuttled out from the shadows, their hairy legs clicking against the stone, their beady eyes glinting like tiny red jewels in the dim light. Jae didn't hesitate.
With a quick flick of his wrist, he activated Gravity Touch, the air around the spiders warped as the force of his punches slammed them to the ground with a heavy thud. Their legs twitched uselessly, pinned by the crushing weight, and Jae stepped over their writhing bodies, his focus sharp.
He didn't want to waste his Mana Blade's five-minute cooldown on small fry like these. Save it for the boss, he told himself, his heart pounding harder as he pressed deeper into the cave, the oppressive silence broken only by the steady rhythm of his breaths.
Further in, two more spiders lunged, their mandibles snapping. Jae used Gravity Touch again, the skill flowing easier now, crushing them against the stone with a satisfying crunch. He kept moving, his boots echoing, until the tunnel opened into a wider chamber.
A new sound filled the air, a low, leathery flapping, and Jae froze, his eyes locking on a creature he'd never seen before. A giant winged bat, nearly as tall as his knee, hovered in the dim light, its black body sleek and menacing, its wings edged with glowing red veins that pulsed like embers.
Its eyes gleamed with malice, and Jae's grip tightened, his instincts screaming danger.
He activated his Mana Blade, its blue glow slicing through the darkness, and leaped at the bat, his muscles coiled with power.
But the creature was faster than he'd expected. Its mouth opened wide, and a jet of fire roared out, lighting the cave in a blinding orange blaze. Jae's heart lurched, and he dove to the side, the flames grazing his clothes and singeing the ends of his hair.
The acrid smell of burning fabric and scorched hair filled the chamber, stinging his nose as he scrambled to his feet, his pulse racing wildly.
Too close, he thought, cursing his slow reaction. His hand darted to his inventory, pulling out the Anti-Fire Cloak. The shimmering fabric felt cool against his skin as he threw it over his shoulders, its faint magical hum reassuring him.
With the cloak's protection, Jae charged again, undaunted. The bat unleashed another fireball, but this time the flames washed over him harmlessly, fizzling against the cloak's enchanted surface.
A memory flashed through his mind, the shocked gasps of the crowd during his duel with Fin, the thrill of turning the tables. He smirked, feeling that same rush of control now.
He swung his Mana Blade in a swift, glowing arc, the blade slicing clean through the first bat's wing. The creature let out a shrill, ear-piercing screech as it crashed to the ground, flapping helplessly. The second bat dove at him, its sharp claws glinting in the dim light, but Jae was ready.
He swung again, his blade clipping the bat's claws, severing them cleanly. The creature shrieked, its wings beating wildly as it retreated into the shadows,
