Farmboy becomes King with the Lust System

Chapter 31: Higher rank

Jae sprawled across his bed, the faint creak of the mattress echoing in the quiet dorm room, a tired but satisfied smile tugging at his lips.

The air was cool, carrying the lingering scent of soap from his shower and a hint of Elise's floral perfume, a reminder of the wild night they'd shared.

The light from the hallway slipped under the door, casting a soft glow across the stone walls, and Jae's body felt heavy, his muscles aching from both the spider-slaying mission and the unexpected marathon with Elise.

He hadn't seen that coming, her innocent face, those gentle eyes, hiding such a fiery side in bed. She'd pushed for round after round, her energy surprising him until she was physically spent, her body trembling with exhaustion.

He'd escorted her back to her dorm, half-worried she'd collapse on the way, but she'd managed, her shy smile lighting up the dark as they parted.

Now, alone, Jae's mind buzzed with the Lust System's latest reward. A ding had flashed earlier: +80 Lust Points for his session with Elise. Eighty points!

His grin widened as he opened the system's panel, the green glow filling the room like a sci-fi hologram.

His fingers hovered, his heart racing as he debated where to put the points. Gotta make these count, he thought, his mind flicking to his low rank.

He needed to climb, fast. He decided to spread the points evenly, pumping 20 into each stat. His Strength hit 85, Speed 63, Stamina 85, and Perception 61.

The rush of power tingled through him, like a warm current under his skin, and he flexed his hand, feeling stronger, sharper. Not bad, he thought, but it wasn't enough.

Not yet. He closed his eyes, the system's glow fading, and drifted into a deep, dreamless sleep.

The next week, the classroom was a chaotic hum of voices, the air thick with the smell of chalk and faint traces of mana from morning practice.

Students crowded around the ranking board, their chatter a mix of cheers and groans as the new list glowed with runes. Jae pushed through the throng, his boots scuffing the stone floor, his heart thumping with a mix of hope and dread.

His eyes scanned the names, and when he found his, his breath caught: Jae, Rank 150/300.

A massive leap from 200! His chest swelled with pride, a grin breaking through despite the sweat on his palms. Fifty spots up was huge, but the top 10, where Byun sat at number one, still felt like a mountain he couldn't climb.

A heavy hand clapped his shoulder, and Jae turned to see Byun's familiar grin, his blond hair a mess as usual. "Improving, huh? I see you, man,"

Byun said, his voice warm but teasing, his eyes glinting with that playful challenge Jae was starting to like.

Jae's smile faltered, his mind churning. "Thanks," he said, his voice steady, but inside, he wasn't impressed. Rank 150 was better, sure, but it wasn't enough. He wanted to be at the top, to shut up the nobles who sneered at him, to prove he wasn't just some lucky commoner.

What's it gonna take? he thought, frustration bubbling up. Grind twice as hard in the cave, fighting monsters until he dropped? Push the Lust System's rewards further?

But that meant finding more women, and most of the girls here, noble snobs like Amira, barely gave him the time of day. Elise was different, but he couldn't just rely on her.

His sigh came out heavy, his shoulders slumping as he leaned against a desk.

The classroom door swung open, and Ms. Lira strode in, her heels clicking sharply on the floor.

She tapped the board with her wand, the sharp sound cutting through the noise like a whip. "Quiet down, everyone," she said, her voice firm, her glasses glinting as she faced the class.

The chatter died, and Jae straightened, his frustration pausing as he focused. "Next week, we're holding the class tournament," Ms. Lira announced, her words sparking a ripple of excited whispers.

"But here's the catch: only those in the top 100 will be allowed to participate. You've got one week to climb the ranks, so work hard."

She paused, her eyes scanning the room, and Jae felt her gaze linger on him for a split second, like she knew he was hungry for this.

His mind raced, his fingers drumming on the desk.

Top 100? He needed to jump another 50 spots in a week. Fifty! His jaw tightened, his chin resting in his hand as he mulled it over.

More cave missions, more training, maybe another boost from the Lust System if he could figure out how to make it work.

But pushing himself harder felt impossible, he was already running on fumes between classes, missions, and nights like the one with Elise.

There's gotta be a way, he thought, his eyes narrowing as he pictured himself facing Byun in the tournament, their fists clashing, the crowd watching.

The idea lit a fire in his chest, but doubt crept in, whispering he wasn't ready.

Byun leaned over, his voice low but full of that cocky charm. "You should try to get stronger," he said, his grin wide. "I'd love to fight you in the tournament."

Jae's head snapped up, meeting Byun's eyes, and for a second, he saw not just a rival but a friend who believed in him.

A small smile curved Jae's lips, his frustration easing. "I'll make it happen," he said, his voice firm, the challenge sparking something fierce inside him.

Byun's laugh was loud, drawing a few glances, but Jae didn't care. He had a goal now, and he wasn't backing down.
