Far From Vanilla: Modded Game Reincarnation

Cobwebbed (4)

Twip!

I retracted my axe. I peeked only the edge of it to bait out an arrow and I succeeded in doing so.

“Holy shit–” I gasped, a small finger print-sized triangular chip just fell off the edge of the weapon. These walking bags of bones can draw a bow strong enough to chip metal.

Even if the shot hit my armor it definitely would have pierced through anyway. I watched the small piece clatter on the ground, and four more arrows rained from the balcony.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

In fairness, this was how it was supposed to be. Skeletons are effectively only bones and so they shouldn’t be able to traverse terrain so easily. How they can draw bows without back and arm muscles were another question, but a literal corpse was attacking.

The whys and how come’s are pointless to think about. Undead monsters were common knowledge anyway, and it was accepted unconditionally. But there definitely has to be an answer, right?

Slap!

“Get it together, Hyun.” I slapped myself with my own bloodied hand, no doubt smearing my face with blood. I must be going crazy from the blood loss.

Honestly, this arrow alone humbled me, like that tree did.

I thought I was better off.

I thought I had an edge because of my overpowered skill…

I thought I was prepared enough to face a dungeon all on my own…

But it wasn’t confidence backed by evidence,

It was hubris.

My own pride in my abilities, and my willingness to kill, was all hubris.

Now where did it get me? Bleeding out on some musty, dusty, and god-forsaken corner of a dungeon infested with monsters.

“Fuck…”

But now was not the time to lament. I had to get out of here. If I wanted to fulfill my dreams, I needed to…

I had to.

So I can’t give up now.

I looked at the arrows again, the gears of my mind slowly turning, forcing themselves to turn on any reserve calories there was on my body.

Even in my near-death, I’m still learning a lot of things.

My life is being extended by the food I ate. To be exact, they are processed inside my body for use. It’s similar to that of earthly human physiology, calories and such, but in this world, the use of food is near instantaneous.

Like gas in an engine, only in this world, it's much faster.

Cruder, and much more simplistic. Nutrition was still thin though, Cody’s teeth are seriously in need of calcium. I pray that dentistry is a thing in this world.

That’s why I was not groggy and sick from eating all that meat. My body even grew in terms of muscle mass, but not by much because I did not exercise all that much.

It was exactly like the concept of Saturation. From eating large volumes of food, I saturated my body with excess energy, and that energy is spent on keeping me alive.

Which means I won’t pass out or bleed out anytime soon, but I won’t be able to hold on indefinitely.  I wonder, what would I feel like if I did not exercise, but was fully saturated?

I’ll have to survive first to find out. I looked at the arrows again before tunin to the one loaded inside of me.

I tore out a piece of cloth from my cloak. I needed it quickly.

Chink!

I struck a shard of flint against my armor, producing a large spark. The flash of light caused more arrows to be fired in my direction.

Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud!

I don’t know how long this bookshelf will last, but I need it to hold out a little more. I plunged about 5 centimeters worth of steel dagger onto the flame, carefully looking at my right and left to avoid being flanked.

The dagger had a tint of orange by the time I was done. I could fight with an arrow inside of me, despite it being uncomfortable in a sense, but my plan needed to be reinforced.

I needed to know what kind of arrow I was struck with. I removed my hood and curled it into something like a mouthpiece.

Happy thoughts…

Happy thoughts…

Happy thoughts…

“Fuck–” I bit down hard on the roll of cloth, promptly sticking the heated blade into the arrow wound. Aghhh!!!

While I was turning the arrow in relation with the blade to properly kill off any bacteria, I was slowly pulling it out.

But no matter how much it hurt, I could only stifle the scream. Some of the further archers already lost interest in me, I couldn’t make myself a target again!

Fuck it hurts–

It feels as though my muscles were screaming, both from being torn and burned. Some blood even spurted from the wound. My methods were crude, inexperienced, and painful, but I definitely was working somewhat.

Or I hope it was.

I pissed myself, but I was busy crying in silence.

I checked it after I was done with the procedure.

It hurts so much...

I looked at the puddle of liquid through teary eyes, the blade completely encrusted in scorched blood-matter in my right hand, the intact arrow in my left hand.

I just fished out an arrow from my side.

Honestly, I could no longer feel the foreign object, it was a relief.

“My piss is… actually clear. I did drink a lot of water.”

And thankfully, My kidney was not punctured. Maybe it was puff off my a foreign roommate, but my piss definitely was not blood.

A good sign.

“Never did I think that I’d piss myself on my first dungeon experience.”

Glad, I didn’t have party members, and at the same time, I wished I had party members.

This is what I get from playing ‘lone’ wolf.

I looked at the arrow in my hand and smiled. My hypothesis was correct. Finally, some good news...
