Chapter 239: Chapter 240: The Mysterious Corpse-Guardian

Feeling the scorching energy, Lin Yun stood at the edge of the volcano and peered inside.

The Dragon-Seeking Abyss was already a dormant volcano, but it still contained a terrifying amount of energy. If it were to erupt, it could very well destroy the entire Weiyang Mountain.

It was pitch-black within, a chasm with no visible end. But the sense of danger he had felt earlier was now becoming increasingly clear. He could now be certain that some powerful creature was guarding whatever lay within the volcano. At this thought, Lin Yun couldn't help but take a deep breath.

Xiao Bai, meanwhile, curiously leaped from Lin Yun's shoulder and began to scamper about the crater's edge. It was clear the little creature was also very excited.

"This place is…" Lin Yun glanced at Qin Xiyan and said with a smile, "I'm not sure what the situation is here either. But if I want to help restore your physique, I'm afraid I'll have to make a trip down there. But you don't need to worry. With my current strength, there are probably very few people in this world who can easily deal with me."

This was no joke. Aside from some top-tier experts, even Myriad Law Realm cultivators weren't opponents he couldn't fight now, though it would certainly come at a bitter price.

Qin Xiyan did not doubt Lin Yun's ability. To have fought so many experts at the Flowing Cloud Sect and held on for several hours was a feat that ordinary people could not hope to achieve. Even if the Flowing Cloud Sect's strength was not what it once was, it was not a place just anyone could challenge at their whim. Lin Yun had, without a doubt, created his own miracle this time, one worthy of her admiration.

After a period of recovery, Qin Xiyan looked much better now. Lin Yun couldn't be sure what the conditions were like inside the Dragon-Seeking Abyss, so he didn't dare to take her down with him rashly. After thinking it over, he decided to leave Xiao Bai behind.

"Xiao Bai, you stay here and protect Junior Sister Qin. And you listen to me, little guy," Lin Yun said, emphasizing each word with a seriousness he rarely showed. "No matter what happens, you are not to leave this place. You must guarantee her safety."

Although Xiao Bai was full of curiosity about what lay below, seeing Lin Yun's serious expression, it nodded in agreement.

"Senior Brother Lin, you should take the little one with you," Qin Xiyan said. "I know it's very strong. Perhaps it can help you. I am capable enough to handle things here myself."

Lin Yun shook his head. "I brought you here this time to heal you. If I were to disregard your safety, how could I possibly go down there with a clear conscience? Wouldn't that be putting the cart before the horse? Don't worry. This place can't do anything to me."

Lin Yun didn't give Qin Xiyan another chance to speak. With that, he took a leap of faith and jumped into the Dragon-Seeking Abyss.

At first, he couldn't feel a trace of heat. But after a short while, he could feel the temperature rising sharply as a heatwave rushed to meet him. Lin Yun quickly projected his Yuan Qi, stabilizing his body in mid-air. Below him was igneous rock, formed from cooled and solidified lava.

After confirming there were no problems, Lin Yun cautiously landed on the ground. He squatted down and knocked on the surface. Though he could still feel the heatwave, he was certain the ground was stable. He glanced around and, sure enough, he saw a massive cave entrance. What lay beyond it was impossible to determine, but he could feel that the dangerous aura from before was emanating from within.

With questions in his mind, Lin Yun gripped his sword in one hand and cautiously walked into the cave. If any creature had tried to ambush him, he would have subdued it instantly. But to his surprise, he reached the end of the passage without encountering any danger.

Instead, the passage opened up into a vast cavern.

This must be the place where the key is sealed, right?

With this question in his heart, Lin Yun looked up.

Above him hung the skeletal remains of a member of the Dragon Clan. The dragon had been bound there by countless chains and was now nothing but a pile of white bones. It was impossible to know how long it had been sealed here. The powerful sense of danger Lin Yun felt was due to this dragon's lingering resentment, which had not dissipated over the long years.

"So strong," Lin Yun muttered. Even after being dead for so many years, the dragon's might was still terrifying.

"Although this is just a clan with the aberrant blood of true dragons, one has to admit, these creatures indeed possessed a power far greater than that of humans or other exotic beasts," the Chongqing Bird explained. "But precisely because of this, they were incredibly arrogant and looked down on everyone. And so, over the many years in the cultivation world, they were eventually slaughtered to the last."

The bird's tone was almost mocking. Any creature, when they become too arrogant, will inevitably suffer a backlash. The Dragon Clan of the past was immensely powerful, believing their strength was a match for any living thing in the world, so they never took others seriously. And because of this, they pushed themselves onto the crest of the wind and waves, to their doom.

Lin Yun nodded, half-understanding.

Just then, a sigh echoed in his ear. "I never thought that after all these years, the one to arrive would be a young brat."

Following the sound, Lin Yun's gaze focused on a white-haired old man. There was nothing special about him; Lin Yun couldn't sense a single trace of Yuan Qi fluctuation from his body. He looked like an ordinary old man. At least, that was the appearance he projected.

But Lin Yun wouldn't be so easily fooled. He knew this place was dangerous enough on its own. And this old man clearly hadn't just arrived. It was obvious he had been living in this place for a very long time. If he didn't have some strength, how could he possibly have survived?

"Senior, are you waiting for someone?"

The old man nodded. "I have waited here for endless years. I never thought that man was lying to me all along." There was a trace of hatred in his voice as he spoke.

Though Lin Yun was curious, he held back and didn't ask further. He didn't want to get involved in someone else's troubles.

"I wonder if Senior can tell this junior whether there is a spine made from an ancient dragon's soul-essence here?" Lin Yun didn't beat around the bush and asked directly.

The old man looked at him with some surprise. "You're an interesting one, boy. Shouldn't you be probing indirectly? By asking so directly, aren't you just giving this old man a chance to deceive you?"

Lin Yun smiled and shook his head. "Senior would not harm me, would he?"

He smiled, but inwardly, he was completely certain. What a joke. As if I, with my ability to see panels, could be fooled by you.
