Chapter 181: Chapter 181: A Temptation Too Great
After only a few minutes, Lin Yun felt as if he had been tossed into a great fire to be roasted alive. To be able to endure in a place like this, one truly had to be no ordinary person.
"This is the renowned Sea of Flames. If one could obtain the Liyang Divine Iron here, forging another divine weapon would be a simple matter," the Chongqing Bird remarked with repeated sighs.
Lin Yun remained silent. He flew over the vast expanse of lava on his sword. After only a quarter of an hour, the scorching heatwaves became unbearable. He had no choice but to deploy his Yuan Qi as a shield, which barely managed to keep the surrounding heat from consuming him.
This, however, made him worry about what was to come.
"This state of affairs is not good for me."
He still had people following him. Lin Yun certainly couldn't just pretend those tails didn't exist. But under these circumstances, it seemed he truly had no other choice.
Pushing the thought aside, Lin Yun channeled his Yuan Qi and, like an arrow loosed from its string, shot deeper into the Sea of Flames.
Not long after he left, the group from the Flowing Cloud Sect appeared.
"Senior Brother Huang, what do we do? The temperature in this Sea of Flames is incredibly high. I don't think we can get in," one of them said.
The disciples stared at the furiously burning sea of lava, their faces filled with horror and worry. Just as they had feared, this place was far more complex than they had imagined.
Hearing their questions, Huang Zonghua just smiled serenely. "Rest assured. Since I brought you here, how could I not have come prepared?"
As he spoke, he took out an azure-blue pearl. "This is a Fire-Repelling Pearl that I worked very hard to obtain. I had no use for it before, but it's perfect for dealing with Lin Yun this time," Huang Zonghua said with immense pride.
He tossed out the pearl, and an invisible barrier immediately enveloped the group. The disciples, who had been struggling to breathe under the oppressive heat, could finally catch their breath.
"As expected of Senior Brother Huang! So you were prepared all along. It was truly a wise choice for us to follow you this time." Several of them, of course, did not forget to flatter him at this moment.
Huang Zonghua, however, remained as cold and indifferent towards them as ever. Since they had come all this way, he had no intention of letting Lin Yun slip through his fingers.
"Brothers, the Sect Master has entrusted this matter to us. That is a sign of his trust. This Lin Yun deceived his master and betrayed his ancestors, and has caused the deaths of many. As disciples of the Flowing Cloud Sect, we cannot stand by and do nothing. So today, even if we must pay an enormous price, I hope we can all remain united in our purpose!" Huang Zonghua looked at the group, elevating their mission to a higher plane.
As expected, no one voiced any opposition. And so, Huang Zonghua led the seven disciples into the Sea of Flames.
Elsewhere, Lin Yun's initial pace had not been fast, but he soon discovered that his Yuan Qi was being consumed at an alarming rate. This was not a good sign.
"Even if I'm strong, if I have to endure this level of Yuan Qi drain, it will do me a hundred harms and not a single benefit!" he muttered to himself, then glanced at his panel.
[Name]: Lin Yun
[Realm]: Sky-Soaring Realm - Stage 1
[Destiny Template]: Mediocre (White)
[Attributes]: Immaculate Sword Physique (Purple), Asura (Purple), Pure Sword Heart (Blue) [Fate]: During a fierce battle at the Flowing Cloud Sect, he is ultimately defeated…
[Recent Turning Point]: In the Void Heavenly Palace's Sea of Flames, thirty li to the east, he encounters the exotic beast 'Abyss Devil Flame Ghost.' After a bitter fight, he diverts the disaster onto another, using the Abyss Devil Flame Ghost's hand to eliminate his enemies.
Interesting.
Lin Yun had been wondering how he was going to defeat his enemies. But now, after seeing the panel, a bold idea formed in his mind. If he couldn't deal with them himself, then perhaps using this Abyss Devil Flame Ghost was a good method.
At this thought, Lin Yun immediately changed his course.
"You foolish boy, if you keep going like this, you might really not be able to hold on," the Chongqing Bird said, a hint of anxiety in its voice. "The most pressing matter now is to find a place to properly recover your Yuan Qi."
In this state, Lin Yun was still insisting on flying through the Sea of Flames. If his stamina gave out, the consequences would be dire. The bird thought this warning would be enough to make Lin Yun realize the gravity of the problem, but to its surprise, Lin Yun just smiled serenely.
"Of course I know what I'm doing. This situation might be difficult for others to handle, but we don't have much of a choice right now. I have no intention of losing to those guys, much less letting them gain the slightest advantage over me."
Lin Yun knew he was being reckless, but the longer this battle in the Sea of Flames dragged on, the more disadvantageous it would be for him. Moreover, he believed that since Gu Xiande was so confident in sending these people after him, they must have a way to deal with the Sea of Flames. For Lin Yun, this was an opportunity.
The Chongqing Bird didn't know why the boy was being so rash, but seeing his resolute attitude, it didn't say anything more.
Not long after, Lin Yun arrived at the location of the Abyss Devil Flame Ghost. The area looked like a lake, but instead of water, it was filled with scalding lava. What truly surprised him, however, was the sight of a colossal statue. He could see the humanoid statue from a great distance, clad in armor and gripping a blade in one hand. It looked incredibly formidable.
"Is this the master of this Sea of Flames?" Lin Yun murmured. His gaze then fell upon the exposed ore at the base of the statue.
"Holy shit! Is that a mountain of Liyang Divine Iron?" Lin Yun was stunned. A piece of this material the size of a palm could be mixed into ordinary metals to forge an exceptionally rare divine weapon. But the Liyang Divine Iron here was piled up like a small mountain. What kind of monstrous creation could be forged from this? Lin Yun didn't dare to imagine.
"Even that senior artificer would surely be shocked if she saw this." He muttered to himself, then cautiously approached.
"Chongqing Bird, do you sense any other auras here? This place feels strange. There must be some kind of guardian, right?" Lin Yun asked in a low voice.
But the Chongqing Bird's answer left him speechless.
"No. I don't sense anything at all. This place should be safe."
Lin Yun sneered. It seems my panel is more reliable after all.
