Chapter 34: The launch of weaponized talismans

"They agreed?"

Roulan nodded. "Yes. Both copies are signed. Patriarch Li Yujin said he's willing to accept these terms if you're willing to produce consistently. They'll begin selling at the adjusted price by the next market day."

Qin Wei leaned back in his seat, a faint smirk curling on his lips. "That was faster than I expected."

Roulan gave a small smile of her own. "The Patriarch is wise enough to realize the worth of Young Master's talismans."

Jiang Ni muttered under her breath, complaining almost inaudibly, "If he knew the worth of talismans, why did he send such a low offer earlier?"

"Hmm?" Roulan raised her eyebrow.

Qin Wei didn't say anything about that. He kept silent. Instead, he simply pressed his thumb onto the parchment, and the red wax attached to his thumb formed a print on the contract.

He then slid one of the two copies across the table toward Roulan. She took it silently, giving a small nod, her expression unreadable as ever.

He picked up his chopsticks again and resumed his breakfast; his appetite suddenly returned. The porridge had cooled slightly, but he didn't mind. A soft warmth began to bubble in his chest until…

Ding!

A translucent window blinked to life in front of his eyes; the holographic screen had notifications.

Qin Wei froze, spoon halfway to his mouth.

[New Missions Unlocked]

*Ding!

[Mission 5: "Become Rich!"

Reward: Unlock Exchange System]

*

Qin Wei stared at the floating text for a moment, the spoon now trembling slightly. He blinked and looked at the contract again.

80 taels per exploding talisman. 200 for storage ones.

A minimum purchase of 100 talismans per month for a year.

He ran a quick calculation in his head. That's… almost twelve thousand a month minimum. One year… one hundred forty-four thousand guaranteed.

But that wouldn't be enough to unlock the exchange system. Perhaps he was too lenient on the terms? Should he have put the minimum buy atleast 300 instead?

While he was wondering, his eyes captured the mission again, especially the reward.

A Chakra Crystal?

What does it do? Qin Wei has no idea, as even in his fanfiction, he had written, he never created this chakra crystal term, and neither was it in the original anime. So, he was clueless about it.

But the other one. Exchange System.

Even though the name sounded dull, it excited him more as he knew exactly what it was. He knew that with millions of credits needed to buy a skill in the library or a gear, there was no way the system would just let him earn credits, only through completing missions.

There would be another way indeed. And that is this exchange system.

So, what he has to do is earn money by selling talismans and then use the earned money and exchange for the credits, which could then be used to buy skills in the Library or buy some awesome gear. The only question was what the exchange rate was. Usually, it is either 10:1 or 100:1. He just has to wait to find out which one.

And to earn that 1 million, Qin Wei decided to go full Talisman Master.

Finishing up his breakfast, he sat in the study room, pretending to study some historical events, but in reality, he had his library open, and he was flipping pages one after another to find another talisman.

In the end, he picked the one that is in his price range and can be sold for money. However, what surprised him was its description.

Ding! 1,800 credits deducted.

[New Skill Unlocked: Sealing Tag]

Sealing Tag: When placed on a person, object, or even terrain, the tag activates a seal and spreads across the target. As long as the tag remains intact, the target will be in the state of immobility, as long as the target is under Rank-6 or the object is under the Earth grade stage. Note: For Rank-6 and above enemies, earth grade and above artifacts, multiple tags are required to be linked together.

Qin Wei exhaled slowly. "This sealing talisman doesn't seem like much, but…" Clenching his fists, he muttered further, "But it will surely be a game changer in the hands of an expert."

He swiftly opened a drawer and pulled out fresh rice paper.

Placing his palm on one of them, he mumbled. "Sealing Tag, activate."

Just like the other two, a fine imprint in scarlet ink appeared on the talisman, giving it the properties of sealing objects.

Qin Wei grinned. "These sealing tags will be sold elsewhere. Out of Li Clan's reach."

Just like that, five days passed in the blink of an eye.

During those five days, Qin Wei barely left his study. Talisman after talisman, he continuously created Sealing tags, which he named as Spirit Locking Talismans.

As planned, instead of handing it over to the Li Clan, he stored them in his inventory so that when Jiang Ni returns from the sect after selling those 200 storage talismans he gave to her.

In the meantime, he also fulfilled his obligations to the deal with the Li Clan. He handed over 100 exploding talismans and 50 storage talismans to the Li Clan, handing them to Roulan, and earned his first revenue in this world. Even the original Qin Wei never worked hard to earn a single tael on his own.

But in just a week, Qin Wei received a whopping 180,000 taels for the first batch he had sent.

While Qin Wei was quite happy with so much money in his pocket, which is like 75 years' worth of allowance he would receive as a matrilocal husband, he still knew that it was far from enough. 1 million is still far away.

And then on the sixth day;

The streets of Beiling City stirred early.

The clatter of carts, calls of vendors, and distant clang of forge hammers made up the market's morning chorus. Meanwhile, Qin Wei was out, walking through the central district with his hands behind his back once again.

Beside him, Roulan matched his pace as usual, a half-step behind and a half-glance ahead, always staying alert.

But this wasn't just a stroll for taking fresh air or something. Today was the launch day of his talismans that the Li Clan is going to make public.

Both of them stopped outside the Li Clan's weapon emporium, a tall structure with lacquered pillars, its facade now draped in red cloth and calligraphy.

Across the store's front, fluttering in the morning wind, hung massive banners inked in bold strokes:

"INTRODUCING: WEAPONIZED TALISMANS!"

"Opening Day: 50% Discount!"

"Crafted by Master Qin — Exclusively at the Li Clan!"

Qin Wei blinked in surprise. "Master Qin?" he muttered.

He looked at her, pointing at himself, "Is it me?"

Roulan smirked at his expression. "Aren't you Master Qin?"

"What Master Qin?" Qin Wei scoffed at the Li Clan's attempt to mislead the public, "It's clear that they are using the Qin Clan name, misleading the customers that it is made by some powerful Talisman Master from the Qin Clan."

Roulan shrugged indifferently, "That's how businesses work. Honest and straightforward, but a prosperous business, such a thing doesn't exist."

Meanwhile, Crowds had gathered already, young martial artists, wide-eyed academy students, and curious cultivators in loose robes, all jostling to get closer to the entrance.

From inside the open doors, store attendants passed out sealed talismans in smooth packages, each marked with the Li Clan's silver crest.

"Looks like Young Master's talismans are selling well," Roulan commented, continuing to observe the situation. She pointed at one, "Look at him, Young Master. He had like ten of them in his hands."

A flash of genuine surprise crossed Qin Wei's face. "Li Clan is indeed quite reputable. People are spending hundreds of taels just like that."

Roulan gave a small nod, filled with pride. "Well, the Li Clan has the reputation of being trustworthy."

For a brief moment, Qin Wei stood motionless, watching the bustling tide surge toward the doors. People raised their voices, bartering for extras, calling out prices, waving coin pouches in the air.

His talismans were selling like hot cakes, and as a creator, he couldn't help but become slightly emotional.

But then came the sound of hooves, disturbing the entire lively atmosphere.

A deep rumble crawled up the stone road as a massive Rank-7-rhino-beast-drawn carriage approached, its armored shell glinting in the morning light. Two curved horns jutted from the beast's forehead, its breath steaming like smoke.

Qin Wei stiffened for a moment.

"I've seen that carriage before," he muttered, his brow knitting, trying to dig into his memories.

Meanwhile, Roulan narrowed her eyes. "That's not a Beiling Clan insignia."

Around the carriage, six black-robed cultivators moved like shadows. Half-masks covered their faces, and none of them spoke. Their presence sliced through the market's din like a blade.

One of them, tall and broad-shouldered, then stepped forward. And without warning, he drew a black sword from his back and swept it horizontally.

A violent gust exploded outward from its swing.

BOOM!

Air cracked and bodies flew, shoppers, attendants, even a cart of talismans crashed into a pole. Screams erupted as people tumbled over one another, scattering like leaves in a storm. No deaths or heavy injuries, just superficial injuries, but it was disturbing enough to incite hatred from the crowd, almost instantly.

"What the hell!?"

"Someone call the guards!"

"What is the Li Clan doing?"

Roulan then stepped in front of Qin Wei instinctively, one hand on the hilt of her curved blade, her eyes burning with alertness.

It was then that the rhino beast let out a deep snort, stamping its steel-shod hoof as the carriage ground to a halt.

From the curtained side, a high-pitched voice suddenly rang out like a bell slicing through the noise.

"The Duke of Nanjing has arrived! Make way!"

A hush fell like a blanket, all over the street at once.
