Chapter 126: [126] Three Best Actors
When Hiruzen Sarutobi arrived at the scene with his men, his expression was incredibly grim.
He had reacted quickly—almost the moment he sensed that terrifying chakra, he'd already dispatched ninja to investigate what had happened.
And it wasn't just him. From all directions, ninja were rushing in.
By the time the Third Hokage and his group arrived, more than a hundred ninja had already gathered.
But when they saw the scene, their expressions were the same as Hiruzen's—or even tinged with fear.
A massive open space had formed in the once-dense Eastern Training Forest. The lush trees had been completely severed, and no one knew where the broken branches had flown off to.
The ground was scattered with shattered body parts, blood dyed the snow red, and long trenches carved through the land.
Hiruzen stood silently atop a boulder, his face dark as he stared at the devastation, lost in thought.
"Lord Hokage, the investigation report is ready."
At that moment, a silver-haired ANBU appeared in front of Hiruzen. Just one glance told him it was Kakashi.
"Speak. What did you find?"
Hiruzen took a deep breath. Though he already had a guess, he needed confirmation.
He had to figure out whether this was a deliberate act—or someone randomly picking a fight.
If it was deliberate, things were very bad. That would mean those damned Uchiha had planted someone close to him.
And Hiruzen absolutely couldn't tolerate betrayal.
Whether the operation had collapsed or the Uchiha gained leverage didn't matter to him anymore—he didn't have time to care.
If it was the latter, then it was fine. The Uchiha ran the police force, so of course they'd know where those people were.
And the grudge between the Uchiha and Root ran deep. Uchiha Yuhara showing up to cause trouble? Totally expected.
"Lord Hokage, according to the ANBU guarding this area, the attacker was Uchiha Yuhara."
Kakashi bowed his head and answered calmly, though inside he was a mess.
He never expected Yuhara to act so fast—he'd just handed over the intel and the guy moved that same day. It caught him totally off guard.
But during the trip over, Kakashi had time to think it through. He guessed Yuhara didn't know who had given him the intel and couldn't confirm if it was real—so he acted preemptively to eliminate possible threats.
It wasn't a bad move. Root's remnants were definitely gunning for revenge. Still, Kakashi was stuck now—he was the one who passed on the intel.
He had to steer Hiruzen away from him and frame this as "Yuhara acted on his own."
"But the ANBU also reported that Yuhara didn't attack first. They struck first and he retaliated.
That said, his retaliation was brutal. He used the same technique he used to kill Danzo.
Just one slash and everyone was wiped out. They also noted the giant looked different this time."
Kakashi continued, subtly emphasizing that Yuhara didn't attack first—a small effort to protect himself.
But Hiruzen wasn't concerned with that—he focused on Yuhara using Susanoo.
It looked different now. That was the key detail.
Because Hiruzen could feel it—Yuhara's power this time was even more terrifying than before.
He'd suspected it for a while, but now he was sure—Yuhara had gotten stronger again.
This little brat's strength had improved again—and at such a young age. Was his talent really this monstrous?
Hiruzen was sure—he wasn't this strong at Yuhara's age.
Even Uchiha Kagami, from the same clan, had never reached this level—he hadn't even awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan.
"This kid is terrifying."
Hiruzen muttered silently. A few months ago, he had witnessed Yuhara's strength—he believed he could deal with him then, but barely.
Now? He was sure he'd die trying. He was old—no longer the ninja hero he once was. Facing Yuhara now meant using forbidden jutsu.
If only he were twenty—or even ten—years younger, he might still have a shot.
But soon, Hiruzen eased up a little.
As Hokage, he had access to a lot of information—especially on the Mangekyō Sharingan.
Thanks to Tobirama and Itachi, he knew a crucial truth: the more you use it, the faster you go blind.
"Uchiha Yuhara… you're digging your own grave."
To Hiruzen, recklessly using the Mangekyō was like drinking poison to quench thirst.
It might give you power now, but later? You'd be crying.
Still, he couldn't let his guard down while Yuhara remained strong.
Especially since there were two other Mangekyō users out there. A single era, three Mangekyō Sharingan—united? Hiruzen felt cursed.
"If they keep rising in power, I'll have to suppress and weaken them.
Another Madara is something Konoha cannot survive."
While thinking, Hiruzen turned to Kakashi.
Kakashi was anxious—after delivering his report, the Hokage had stayed silent, saying nothing. That scared the hell out of him.
He worried that Hiruzen suspected a leak.
Still, he didn't regret giving the intel to Yuhara—for Konoha, for Obito, he'd do it again.
But he did wish he'd given Yuhara more assurance—maybe then the guy wouldn't have gone nuclear so fast.
"I understand. Where is Uchiha Yuhara?"
"He's over there. He's stayed at the scene this whole time."
Kakashi answered with his head low. He didn't even dare look at Hiruzen now.
Yuhara really hadn't left—for him, there was nothing wrong with what happened. Everything was justified. Why would he run?
Hiruzen saw through it. Since the Root guys attacked first, Yuhara had every reason to stay—it followed all procedures.
Which only pissed Hiruzen off more.
Yuhara's blatant actions followed all the rules. That kind of provocation, done by the book, was infuriating.
But now, he had to test Yuhara's motive. Was this move triggered by secret intel? Or was it just a personal vendetta?
"Take me to him. I want to talk."
Hiruzen gave the order, and Kakashi immediately froze.
What the hell was this?
The one who leaked the info now had to lead the Hokage to the guy who acted on it—and that guy didn't even know who gave it to him?
What kind of tangled mess was this?
Still, Kakashi didn't dare object. He quietly led Hiruzen toward Yuhara.
Before long, they spotted him sitting on a rock—alone.
No one else was near. Regular ninja were off inspecting the massive trenches and damage, and the ANBU hadn't revealed who caused it.
Even if someone guessed it was Yuhara, they wouldn't dare speak up.
Not even the ANBU would approach this area—that alone said plenty. They were nervous and hesitant too.
"Chief Yuhara. Long time no see."
Hiruzen walked right up to him, gritting his teeth as he spoke.
Yuhara raised an eyebrow and smiled.
"Lord Hokage, long time no see. What brings you here?"
"Lord Hokage, Chief Yuhara—if you have matters to discuss, I'll take my leave."
Kakashi stepped back, eager to get out of the blast zone.
But Yuhara stopped him.
"No need to leave. I've got nothing to hide."
He smiled at Kakashi, then turned back to Hiruzen.
"What do you think, Lord Hokage?"
"Hmph. I have no objections."
Hiruzen grunted coldly, keeping Kakashi in place.
Neither realized that Kakashi was already turning pale.
He was stuck in a nightmare—both sides unaware he was the informant, and he couldn't admit it to either.
All he could do was stay silent, listening to see what they'd say—and praying neither exposed him.
He felt like his soul was getting crushed under pressure.
"Uchiha Yuhara, tell me—why did you do this?"
Hiruzen broke the silence, glaring at Yuhara with clear displeasure in his voice.
But Yuhara was completely calm.
"Didn't your people tell you why I did it?"
He looked at Hiruzen, shaking his head with a hint of mockery.
"Attacking the Chief of the Konoha Police Force and a jōnin from the Uchiha clan—do I not have the right to strike back?"
"That's not what I'm asking—and you know it."
Hiruzen leaned in, voice low.
"They were Root operatives. You knew what would happen if you showed up.
I was trying to reabsorb them into Konoha. Let them redeem themselves through service.
But now, thanks to you, they're all dead!
What's your angle, Uchiha Yuhara?"
"My angle is simple, Lord Hokage."
Yuhara smiled, amused by Hiruzen's probing.
Maybe this was about the intel, maybe something else. Either way, Yuhara decided to play along.
"They were Root scum. I never said I'd spare them.
Besides, they attacked first—I just wanted to check on them."
He paused, then grinned.
"Of course, I teased them a bit. Asked why they hadn't followed their traitorous master to the grave.
Didn't expect them to snap so fast."
That last line made Hiruzen's blood pressure spike—he was clearly talking about Danzo.
And who made Danzo a traitor, huh? You think you don't know?
But before he could explode, Yuhara kept going—grinning even wider.
"I'll admit—I provoked them on purpose.
I've got unfinished business with Root.
And honestly, Lord Hokage—you should be thanking me."
"Thanking you?"
Hiruzen was floored. Was this brat seriously spinning this into a favor?
Yuhara didn't stop.
"You wanted to test them, right?
See if they were fit for ANBU.
Well, I tested them—with my life on the line.
If they stayed calm, you could've recruited them.
If not—boom. Problem solved.
I helped clean up the leftovers—for you."
Hiruzen's fists clenched under his robes.
If that's what a good deed looks like, what the hell counts as a crime?
He realized he'd underestimated Yuhara—not his strength, but his intellect.
Uchiha didn't usually talk this much. They either acted or stayed silent.
But Yuhara? He played the game.
That's why, when Yuhara showed him footage of the masked man killing his wife, he eventually believed him.
Uchiha rarely lied. Their pride wouldn't allow it.
And they never admitted to things they didn't do.
Hiruzen had always suspected it—but ignored the signs for peace.
Yuhara's behavior didn't match any Uchiha he'd known.
He'd heard the kid wasn't a typical Uchiha before, but now? He believed it.
Taking a deep breath, Hiruzen forced himself to calm down and sneered.
"Hmph. Then I suppose I should thank you, Chief Yuhara."
"Don't mention it, Lord Hokage. Always happy to help."
Then Yuhara tilted his head, face puzzled.
"But… given all I've done, don't I deserve something in return?"
Hiruzen nearly blew a gasket.
Shameless didn't even begin to describe this kid.
Still, he saw something important—an opportunity to test Yuhara.
He pretended to be furious.
"I told you not to push it. Haven't you gotten enough already?
What more do you want, Chief Yuhara?"
"Remember when we discussed the police force?"
Yuhara sighed dramatically.
"It's not doing great.
We're short on people and we've got no money.
Finance isn't giving us enough—we can't even function.
Lord Hokage, isn't the police force part of Konoha too?"
Kakashi froze, stunned by Yuhara's sudden pivot.
Did he just ignore the intel entirely?
But then he realized—Yuhara had his own plan. He wasn't showing all his cards.
And Hiruzen?
He felt like he'd just stumbled on a massive clue.
"This brat wants money and people?
That's part of my plan!
Could he not know?"
Hiruzen thought it through.
A normal person, knowing they're being targeted, wouldn't walk right into it.
Unless… he was playing a deeper game.
But the plan's core was to strip Uchiha control from the police force.
Even the dumbest Uchiha wouldn't fall for that.
So maybe Yuhara really didn't know.
Or maybe he was just threatening him—showing off his power to force concessions.
That made more sense.
Hiruzen was furious, but he'd been through worse—like when Kumo tried to blackmail them.
Back then, he'd yielded to avoid another war.
Now?
He stared at Yuhara's young face and took a deep breath.
He knew what to do.
Clenching his fists, Hiruzen gritted his teeth and said:
"Fine. No money—Konoha's broke.
And I can't just give you people—I have to respect everyone's wishes.
But I'll help promote the police force. You're on your own from there."
"That's it?"
Yuhara dropped his smile, clearly disappointed.
"Fine. But I must say… I'm a little let down."
"I told you, Uchiha Yuhara!" Hiruzen snapped. "Don't push your luck!"
Kakashi watched silently.
At least he hadn't been exposed.
But in his mind, only one thought kept looping:
These two?
Could win an Oscar.
