Chapter 8: 008: The Younger Brothers in the Courtyard
He felt there was nothing wrong with being honest with Lin Yue about his family's actual situation and was just about to speak, "My family is actually..."
"I know," Lin Yue interrupted, "I really do need your company to help me with a bit of background embellishment to satisfy my family, but I didn't expect you to come up with such a high-ranking and risky military title!"
At this point, Lin Yue could only take one step at a time.
She sighed, "It's not your fault. It was my oversight for not paying attention to the military rank details before I posted the photo on social media."
While speaking, Lin Yue glanced at Gu Feng in the passenger seat, and asked teasingly, "Tell me the truth, were you just a soldier for a few years and completely unaware of the military camp and its branches?"
Gu Feng frowned, "Why would you say that?"
Lin Yue said, "If you knew, how could you possibly be unclear about the issue with the fake military rank you're pretending to have?"
Gu Feng let out a wry smile, "Is there a possibility that I actually am..."
Lin Yue realized that by saying this, she might have offended Gu Feng, and didn't want to continue a topic that would no longer help the situation, quickly changing the subject:
"During the meal with the relatives, you don't have to deliberately boast. Particularly with my eldest uncle. Both he and my father have served in the military, and I'm afraid you'll be seen through if you talk too much."
Okay, she successfully diverted Gu Feng's attention. Hearing that her father had also served, Gu Feng became curious, "Dad was also a soldier?"
Lin Yue nodded with a bit of pride, "He actually fought in the Vietnam War and even earned a third-class merit!"
Gu Feng's eyes lit up, "That's impressive!"
Lin Yue, with her beautiful big eyes, was slow on the uptake and after realizing something, she gave Gu Feng a glare, "He's my dad, not your dad."
"I'm just getting into character early," Gu Feng said with a smile.
The car arrived at a five-star hotel in the Magic Capital.
Lin Yue said, "You go up first to wash and change clothes; I'll wait for you in the car."
Gu Feng nodded and took the various bags to check into a room.
When he came back down, he had changed into a sharp suit, and in line with Lin Yue's request, he wore a Rolex wristwatch worth 300,000 on his wrist.
Years of professional training had given Gu Feng a well-built physique, and in a tailored suit, his muscle contours were clearly defined.
Paired with his upright demeanor and chiseled features, Lin Yue felt that Gu Feng exuded a mature charm of resolute masculinity with a hint of restraint.
On their way to the restaurant, Lin Yue found herself stealing glances at Gu Feng from time to time.
Gu Feng, on the other hand, spent more time looking out of the window, admiring the urban landscape of the Magic Capital's financial center.
After several years away, the Magic Capital was even more prosperous.
Just then, Gu Feng's phone rang.
Since he had just returned to the country, he had forgotten many old friends' numbers and had not had the chance to save them, so he had no idea who was calling.
"Hello?"
The person on the other end, upon hearing Gu Feng's voice and confirming his identity, excitedly asked, "Feng?"
"Who are you?" Gu Feng asked.
"It's your little brother Ye Wei," the person on the other end said happily, "Li Yan told me you're in the Magic Capital. Where are you? I'll come to you. You returned to the country and didn't even tell your brothers. Shall I arrange something for tonight?"
Gu Feng thought it was someone else, but it turned out to be the little rascal from the compound who liked to follow him around.
Having been away for three years, he guessed these kids were probably into business by now.
"Some other time, I'm busy now," Gu Feng said, "How come you're in the Magic Capital? Are you alone?"
Ye Wei replied, "Nie Yun is here too. Our family's formations are full, so a few of us had to come to the Magic Capital to try our luck. Not like you, Feng, you can return to the military whenever you want."
Seeing that the car had arrived at the wedding parking lot, Gu Feng didn't have time for a chat: "I've got something on, can't talk now, we'll catch up later."
After hanging up the phone, Gu Feng followed Lin Yue out of the car.
Lin Yue busily took out two red envelopes and a bank card from her purse. The card contained the 3 million she hadn't given to Gu Feng before.
She said, "My sister-in-law's family is quite capable. Give them these red envelopes later as a token for changing your address."
Gu Feng nodded and followed Lin Yue straight to the banquet hall.
