Fairy Tail: Strongest Creature

Chapter 150: The Disappeared City

Su Yan also heard Lisanna's name mentioned and couldn't help recalling that sweet-natured, gently mischievous girl. He remembered how Lisanna would secretly tease him, asking if he'd become her brother-in-law someday—but at the time, Mirajane had been so fierce that Su Yan hadn't dared say anything aloud. That memory had nothing to do with his strength; it was pure nervousness.

Later, when Mirajane became an S-Class mage, Su Yan specifically asked the Master not to assign her S-Class jobs, fearing a repeat of what had happened with Lisanna. Though Mira was strong, it never crossed anyone's mind that a simple lower-level quest would cost Lisanna her life.

Su Yan knew three months had passed before he returned from a job. When he came back, the fiery Mirajane of old was gone—transformed into who she was now. He'd suspected Lisanna might actually be alive somewhere, but decided not to say anything yet. Mirajane needed calm and closure.

He once approached Mystogan. Having partial memories of him from the old days, Su Yan understood Mystogan's identity, but that mysterious S-Class wizard rarely showed himself. Not long after, Su Yan left on a year-long mission. It felt like now was nearly time for Lisanna's return—once Mystogan showed up again, perhaps Su Yan could have him help bring Lisanna back.

Outside, the storm raged.

Heavy rain poured over Magnolia's streets.

"Carla, there you are!" Wendy rushed out, drenched, clutching no umbrella.

"Wendy, you'll catch a cold," Carla scolded. "Why come out in this downpour?"

Wendy looked distressed. "Carla, we only just joined Fairy Tail. I really hope you can get along with everyone."

"Hmph. There's no need. As long as I have you, that's enough."

"Carla, you're doing this again," Wendy muttered, exasperated. She sincerely wanted Carla to bond with Fairy Tail, just as Happy had. Everyone in the guild already treated Happy like one of them, and Wendy hoped Carla could share that acceptance, too.

Just then, footsteps approached through the rain. A cloaked figure walked toward them.

"Who're you?" Carla demanded, positioning herself in front of Wendy protectively.

"Wendy…I never expected you to join this guild," said the figure. Removing hood and face-wrap, he revealed his face.

"Jellal?!" Wendy gasped.

The man shook his head slightly. "Seven years ago, I told you my name was Jellal—but I've been Mystogan in Fairy Tail."

"Mystogan?" Carla repeated, surprised. Since arriving, she'd heard about the elusive Mystogan—an S-Class mage who rarely showed his face.

"You… You were the one from seven years ago," Wendy cried, tears mixing with rain. "I've wanted to see you for so long."

"I'm sorry I couldn't come sooner," Mystogan said gently, "but there's no time to rejoice now."

"Huh?"

"You must leave this city, right away."

"What?" Wendy exclaimed.

"All of Magnolia is about to vanish."

"What are you talking about?! Fairy Tail—what'll happen to everyone there?!"

"They'll all… disappear," Mystogan said gravely.

Shocked, Wendy immediately dashed back toward the guild. "No, I have to warn them!"

"Wendy!" Mystogan called, but she was already gone.

Above, the storm clouds spun into a giant vortex. Thunder and rainfall masked the strange distortion that overtook the entire city.

Wendy reached Fairy Tail's front steps just in time to witness the guild's walls twisting as if turning to steam. In seconds, the structure was dissolved by an invisible force. One after another, Magnolia's streets did the same, sucked into the swirling sky.

"N-No way!" Wendy breathed, staring at the suddenly empty ground. It all happened in a blink—what had been a bustling city became a bare stretch of earth. The mountains beyond lay exposed.

Trembling, Wendy fell to her knees. "The guild… Everyone's gone… Why am I the only one left?!"

She'd just gone through the agony of seeing her old phantoms vanish at Cat Shelter. Now Fairy Tail—her new family—had disappeared, too. Was she doomed to always lose those closest to her?

"Why didn't I vanish with them…?"

A rumble sounded nearby. The ground cracked open, and a figure emerged. Wendy's eyes lit up as she recognized him:

"Brother Su Yan!" she sobbed, rushing forward. "Th-The whole city is gone—our guild, too!"

Su Yan gently embraced her as she wept. "Wendy…it'll be all right. Don't cry."

He looked around, stunned. A moment earlier, he'd caught a glimpse of Mirajane and Elfman leaving for Lisanna's grave. Then everything simply…evaporated. His first thought was that Magnolia had been attacked—even he hadn't sensed it until the final moment.

Now he saw Wendy, alone and desperate, so he focused on comforting her. Somehow, they would get to the bottom of this, rescue their missing friends, and figure out who or what had stolen an entire city.
