As Alfonzo trailed off, he allowed Ai to take the next step forward. Meanwhile, Ai, noticing the same thing, took a deep breath to settle her nerves. Then, she, like Grayfia, leaned forward to plant a short, yet passionate, kiss on Alfonzo's lips to make their relationship official.

"So, do you want to stay as a maid in the service of the Marcus Family, too?" Alfonzo asked as he stretched out his right hand and laid it atop Grayfia's head before combing his fingers through her long, silver hair.

"I'm not sure." Ai replied while shaking her head as she knelt down on the other side of Alfonzo's lap. "All I do know is that I would like to stay as your assistant."

"Got it." Alfonzo replied. "I'm sure we'll be able to work something out."

"Actually, it kinda is." Marin replied. "You know, in most cases, it's the guy who askes the girl out, right?"

"Really?" Cana, Ultear, and Mirajane asked in unison with dumbfounded expressions on their faces.

"Yeah, it is." Marin replied with a nod. "It's just Fairy Tail… most guilds, really… is filled with strong-willed women who are not afraid to go after what they want."

"I agree." Erza replied with a nod of her own. "At least, that's how it is in most of my books."

"You shouldn't take those trashy novels of yours as the absolute truth, Erza." Mirajane said while smiling wryly.

In response to Mirajane's insult, both Erza and Marin shouted in protest. However, they were easily ignored.

"Actually, I don't' know how things usually go, either." Sun said while tilting her head. "I only knew Alfonzo for a few days before we were engaged."

"Well, your case is rather special, Sun." Marin said. "it's more like the courting ritual of a noble than a commoner."

"Marin's right." Ultear added. "You were engaged before you started getting to know each other and falling in love. But in most cases, it's the exact opposite."

"Oh, I get it." Sun replied with an understanding nod.

"My case was rather different, as well." Erza said. "I ended up engaged with Alfonzo on the same day as Sun."

"That was only because Fonzie did not want to go to war with the Merfolk, though." Cana pointed out. "You would have probably ended up like me, Mira, and Tear if that didn't happen."

"Or you might have even ended up in love with someone else." Mirajane added with a smile. "I mean, there was that childhood friend of yours. The one who betrayed the Magic Council back then. You know who I'm talking about, right?"

Hearing what Mirajane said, Elicia, who had been silent for quite a while, snapped her head up in Mirajane's direction.

'Can she see the canon timeline or something?' Elicia asked herself while looking at Mirajane with a strange expression on her face.

["Of course, she can't."] Scylla replied, shooting down Elicia's stupid thoughts. ["She's just mentioning the classic childhood friend trope. You know the one where the childhood friend becomes a bad boy but redeems himself, and the two fall in love."]

'Yeah, I guess you're right.' Elicia replied understandingly.

"You're referring to Jellal." Erza replied. "I'll admit, I could see that being the case after it was determined that he was being controlled for so long. If I had not been with Alfonzo, that is. But now, there's no way anything like that could be possible."

"We don't doubt that, Erza." Cana said with a smile. "It was just a 'what if' scenario."

The other girls nodded in response to Cana's statement. At the same time, Cana turned to look at Elicia with a somewhat concerned gaze.

"By the way, Lici, what's wrong?" Cana asked in a slightly concerned tone. "you've been so quiet. I know you're not nervous about tomorrow's event. So, what's going on with you?"

"Huh? Oh, it's nothing." Elicia replied, though her words were not very convincing to anyone who knew her.

"Come on, Lici." Ultear said as she scooted a little closer to Elicia and threw an arm around her shoulders. "Just tell us what's bothering you. Cana's right. it's weird for you to be so quiet."

Cana, Mirajane, Erza, Marin, and Sun all nodded in agreement while looking at Elicia supportively.

"Seriously, it's really nothing." Elicia said while smiling wryly. "But if you really wanna know, I don't mind telling you."

Seeing the smile on Elicia's face, the other ladies could tell that there really was nothing to worry about. However, they would all be lying if they said they were not curious about what was on Elicia's mind.

"Well, it's just my Fonzie Sense has been tingling for the last hour, or so." Elicia said with a slight frown on her face. "On top of that, I felt like I was missing something fun. But because we were playing with the little ones, I couldn't go join the fun."

Immediately, Cana, Ultear, Erza, Mirajane, and especially, Marin and Sun knew exactly what Elicia was talking about. And just as quickly, they lost interest in what was going through Elicia's mind. They then completely ignored her while they continued to chat until Alfonzo came back after having dinner and taking Brandish to her room. Then, with the three children, the entire group went to sleep so they would be well-rested for tomorrow's event.
