Fairy Tail: Jinchuriki

Chapter 160: 160. Mourning

Alex's death is a big blow to Fairy Tail. The Guild's lively atmosphere disappears and the members aren't motivated to take any jobs for a while. Alex is close with everyone, even the town people, so the whole Magnolia also mourns his death.

The town even builds his statue in one of their parks. He has prevented Acnologia from reaching the land, so he also protected Magnolia and the Kingdom. That's why his statue is built in the town where he lived for years.

But people can't mourn forever. Life must go on even if they are sad. The ones living need to continue their lives. They can't keep clinging onto the dead. Many have lost their precious people, but they kept on living.

It takes a while for the Guild activities to return to Fairy Tail and it takes longer for their lively atmosphere to return. But many things just can't return to how they were before. Alex's death affects many things in the Guild.

The most noticeable changes are that everyone becomes more serious in their jobs, they don't destroy things as much as before, and they are training diligently when they are not working. Well, most of them are.

Alex always told them to give their all in their jobs no matter how trivial those jobs are. He also told them to keep the Guild's good reputation by minimizing lateral damage. He also always helped them with training whenever he was free.

Everyone just came to an agreement that they want to make Alex proud by doing what he always taught them. They never talked about it to each other. Alex's teaching just came to their mind whenever they worked.

Fortunately, everyone has started behaving better in the last few years because Alex often scolded them and told them how their careless behaviors were affecting the Guild and everyone in it, so this change isn't really sudden.

Of course, they are still having their carefree attitude even when their clients are nobles. But they are now more careful with their jobs and think more about their actions so they won't cause unnecessary destruction.

Thanks to everyone being more careful with their actions, the Guild doesn't need to pay compensation for damage as much as before, so they can save more money for their operational and other things.

Everyone also feels the benefit of being more careful in their jobs. They learn to control their power better, thinking of new strategies, and even get offered better paying job quests that need more careful handling.

Fairy Tail is getting stronger and better while still maintaining their happy-go-lucky personality. They know when to play around and when to be serious. But most of all, they still think of the Guild as their family that they need to protect.

That's Alex's legacy and everyone's belief too because all of them know that Alex risked his life and even sacrificed it to protect them. So they will also give their all to protect the Guild like Alex did and to do that, they need to be stronger.

Time passes and everyone thinks they have moved on from Alex's death, but it seems they haven't fully moved on yet. After all, when the time for the year X785 S-Class exam, everyone's spirit just drops.

No one tries to take as many jobs as possible before the exam to increase their chance of being chosen as candidates. They just work normally and some even take a break from work for a while.

The exam still needs to go on, so Makarov chooses this year's candidates that are unsurprisingly the same as the previous year. But surprisingly, all the candidates forfeit right after the announcement.

All of them have the same reason. They don't think they are ready to be an S-Class, the same level of a Mage as Alex. Each of them thinks that with their current abilities, they still can't get Alex's approval yet.

Makarov thinks that's not true because they've grown a lot in this 1 year. But it's their rights to forfeit from the exam, so he can't force them. Besides, without motivation, they won't show their true abilities in the exam, so he won't be able to judge their true abilities.

In the end, it's decided that there will be no exam in year X785. Everyone just drinks day and night with a low mood because for them, the S-Class exam is also Alex's death anniversary.

It reminds them of how useless they were because they couldn't help Alex so he sacrificed himself. They believe their weaknesses were the reason for Alex's death, that's why they need to get much stronger.

The one with the worst mood around this time is Meteor Destroyer. The bear doesn't even want to eat anything and keeps looking to the south through the windows because he misses Alex so much.

For the last year, the Strauss siblings have taken care of Meteor. He followed them in their jobs and lived with them. After all, Mira is Alex's lover, so she is the most suitable to take care of Alex's bear partner.

But even Mira can't make him eat anything these last few days because it's almost Alex's death anniversary date. Everyone is worried about him, so they all agree to go to Hargeon Town together for Alex's death anniversary.

When they're on the coast with the sea breeze hitting their faces, they can't help but remember their moments together with Alex. Tears flow down their cheeks as they tell Alex their progress in the last year.

Everyone can't help but feel emotional now. They cry while giving their reports to the sea where Alex's body lies and they feel surprisingly refreshed after that.

But some months later, in May year X786, Mavis suddenly appears in the Guild. She uses the mark on Cana's arm to appear there and immediately looks for Makarov.

"Fi-First Master?! W-what brings you here so suddenly?"

"FIRST MASTER?!" Those who don't know about Mavis are surely surprised.

"Third Master, I have something to tell you. I need you to go to Tenrou Island with everyone as soon as possible. There's something that all of you need to see." Mavis has a serious expression.

"What happens in Tenrou Island?" Makarov becomes alerted immediately.

"Ah, the island is not in danger or anything, so you don't need to worry about that. It's just that there's something that everyone needs to see there. I'm sorry I can't explain it here because I don't really understand it either. But I'm sure it's something that everyone needs to see."

Makarov ponders for a bit. "If the island isn't in danger and it's something that everyone needs to see, then we can't go right away. Many are still working, so we should send notice for them to return as soon as possible. The earliest we can go is tomorrow, is that okay, First Master?"

"Yes, it will be fine. If not everyone can come, then at least take that bear there. He is the one who needs to see this the most." Mavis says it before disappearing.

Makarov's eyes widen because if Meteor needs to come, then it has something to do with Alex. So he quickly sends notices to everyone who's on a job to return as soon as possible.

Some have just left when Mavis came, so they can't return right away. It takes 3 days for most members to return. Only Gildarts can't return because he takes a job in another continent which will take weeks just to return, so they leave him.

The whole Guild goes to the island using a big airship. They can finally buy their custom airship thanks to the money they can save because everyone has behaved better so they don't need to spend their money that much as compensation.

It's also thanks to the shares they get from the productions of magic weapons and vehicles. They patented the designs of magic weapons and vehicles from Edolas Alex that only use lacrima crystals as energy sources which give them good amounts of profit.

Also, they exchange the bounty rewards from the Grimoire Heart Mages that Alex defeated and buried in Tenrou Island. Those criminals have really high bounties that could cover a quarter of the airship's production price.

Anyway, now Fairy Tail has more money than before and became a wealthy Guild. So they bought an airship as big as Grimoire Heart's airship. The shape is surprisingly just a normal giant ship, but with a figure of a flying fairy on the front and its body is fully made of metal.

It can house the whole Guild, so all of them can go to Tenrou Island using this airship. They reach the island much quicker than using normal ships thanks to the airship's speed. Before they land on the island, they notice a giant red flower is blooming on the coast.

Then just as they thought, Mavis called them here because of the flower. It certainly is a strange flower, so they investigate it, but when they see the center of that flower, all of them are shocked beyond words.
