Chapter 106: Chapter 104: Kirin Power and the Martial Saint
Edelweiss was, by nature, a gentle and kind person. In her earlier battle with Kurogane Ikki, the restraint she showed could've filled the entire Pacific Ocean.
But now—she was different. Facing Charles, she could no longer treat this as play.
Because Edelweiss could feel Charles's strength. And so, she became serious.
Sword aura erupted from Edelweiss's entire body, forming a storm of light. Dust billowed into the air, trees groaned and creaked under the pressure, and even the windows of nearby buildings shattered into fragments under the sheer force of her presence.
"I haven't asked your name yet," Edelweiss spoke, her overwhelming presence filling the space around them.
Charles took his stance and replied, "Charles, from Shindou Temple."
Edelweiss nodded, committing the name to memory.
No more words were needed—the two charged at each other.
Edelweiss was even faster than before—not just her sword, but her entire body became a streak of white light.
Charles activated his dragon-blood mode at full power. Dragon scale patterns spread across his face, his body igniting into flames. He became a crimson flash that collided with the streak of white.
What followed was a storm of sparks, but the figures of the two fighters were blurred beyond recognition. Their speed had exceeded the limit of what the human eye could perceive.
Charles gritted his teeth—he finally understood what Ikki had felt earlier. Edelweiss's abnormal swiftness was overwhelming, even to him.
In the blink of an eye, Edelweiss unleashed dozens of strikes. Charles's arms became a blur as he clashed with her head-on.
His body emitted white steam, pupils constricted. Edelweiss's swordsmanship was flawless—Charles couldn't find a single opening.
But Edelweiss, too, was equally surprised.
Her intuition had been correct. Charles was strong. In terms of strength and speed, he was her equal—though a gap remained.
With one hand, she parried Charles's twin fists. She withdrew the other hand.
Charles clearly saw sword aura gather—and then, a strike was thrust forward, piercing through space like a beam of light.
The sword aura tore through Charles's upper garments, leaving numerous wounds across his body. Though they healed quickly, it still shocked him.
Charles leapt back, his gaze wary as he looked at Edelweiss. It was as he feared—her sword wasn't just fast.
The reason he couldn't react wasn't just speed—it was that her blade had no acceleration.
Everyone knows that objects must accelerate from rest to motion. But Edelweiss's sword simply jumped from zero to one hundred—there was no transition.
That was what created the disjointed sensation in Charles, why he couldn't "adapt" to her attacks.
He didn't know how such swordsmanship was even possible. It wasn't a technique. And if it wasn't a technique, there was no way to "counter" it.
Which meant—Charles had to bring out more power.
He exhaled a long breath of white mist and tore off his tattered shirt.
"Fahl!"
At Charles's call, flames gathered above his head and formed into a massive dragon with wings spread wide.
"Spirit Assimilation—Blazing Flame Dragon King!"
The dragon dove into his body. Charles became pure fire-elemental magic. Two sharp dragon horns emerged from his forehead.
"Sorry to keep you waiting. Let's continue!"
Fully transformed through Spirit Assimilation, Charles unleashed his peak combat power. His elongated dragon-scale scarf left a blazing red arc in the air.
Clang!
A tremendous crash rang out—Charles's fist struck against Edelweiss's crossed twin swords. One of her feet slid back slightly. The movement was small, but she had been forced back.
Her twin swords slashed outward, forcing Charles to retreat. She stepped forward again, blades wreathed in cutting sword aura, slashing at him.
In an instant, countless gleaming slashes carved across Charles's body. But now that he had entered magic-form, his wounds regenerated almost immediately.
Charles abandoned all defense, launching his most ferocious assault on Edelweiss.
"Fire Dragon's...!"
Flames coiled around his body. Behind him, Edelweiss could see the ghostly image of a fire dragon.
"Iron Fist!"
Charles punched through several waves of sword aura, striking Edelweiss's feathered blade and sending her flying again.
"Claw!"
He kicked her sword again with one leg. Using the recoil, Charles launched himself high into the air.
"Wing Strike!"
Both of Charles's arms, wreathed in fire, swept down like flapping wings toward the Edelweiss below.
Edelweiss, of course, wasn't going to fall so easily. She cleaved through the fire with her sword.
But Charles had expected that—he dove straight down, continuing his offensive.
"And finally... Fanged Strike!"
Forming claws with his hands, fire wrapped around them as he attacked like a beast tearing its prey apart.
Edelweiss lifted her swords, holding them aloft like an angel spreading white wings.
Charles thought he saw countless white feathers fall through the air—until he realized they weren't feathers. They were reflections of refracted slashes.
His fire dragon claws were effortlessly blocked by those delicate feathers, and Charles himself was sent flying.
"Not enough!"
Even with his full-powered dragon-blood mode and Spirit Assimilation, Charles's strength still couldn't match Edelweiss's sword.
Then...
Charles made up his mind. As he charged again, his aura transformed instantly.
"Shindou Temple Secret Art—Four Symbols Fist Ultimate Form: Kirin Power!"
Edelweiss immediately sensed the shift in Charles's energy and wisely chose not to confront the next punch head-on.
BOOOOM!!!
It was just a punch. But the ground beneath their feet shattered instantly, and more than a dozen cracks, each tens of meters long, spread out across the battlefield.
"What... is this?!"
Edelweiss could tell—Charles hadn't used any special technique. It was a normal punch—yet it was unimaginably powerful.
Charles spoke. "This is the secret ultimate form of the Shindou Temple's Four Symbols Fist. Kirin Power, the ability to instantly unleash all of one's strength.
Now, I finally have the qualifications to make 'Twin Wings' go all out!"
Edelweiss didn't doubt it. With Kirin Power, Charles's strength had increased more than tenfold.
He now had the potential to defeat her.
So she withdrew all her sword aura, returning to her original tranquil state.
But now—this calm Edelweiss felt even more dangerous to Charles than before.
Since he had resolved to fight with everything, Charles had no intention of holding back either.
He pressed his hands together—Fell Dragon and Dragon Slayer disappeared, replaced by a glowing shaft of light, widening at the end into a unique curve.
A special long-handled weapon appeared in Charles's hands.
A伐刀者's innate armament was the embodiment of their soul. Normally, it didn't change shape. This sight alone was enough to leave even Edelweiss bewildered.
But Charles was different—a transmigrator. His soul had taken on another form, forged across two lifetimes.
After crossing into this world, raised by dragons, inheriting dragon powers, and shaped by a path meant to slay dragons—his experiences had birthed Fell Dragon and Dragon Slayer.
But deep within his soul lay a deeper truth—a bloodline and pride cultivated by five thousand years of history.
And that created another form of his innate armament.
Edelweiss looked at the weapon in his hand and said, "A naginata...? No, that's... the great blade passed down in that country."
Charles gripped his weapon and spoke.
"In my homeland, this type of weapon is named after its most renowned wielder. So its proper name is—Guan Dao, also known as the Green Dragon Crescent Blade!"
This innate armament was nearly two and a half meters long. A coiled Eastern dragon encircled the shaft between the blade and the handle. Its scales gleamed, and its once-hollow eyes now radiated a crimson glow.
Its dragon mouth opened in a roar. Below it, the curved blade—two palms wide—swept into a crescent moon shape, its edge glowing with an icy luster.
Yes—what appeared in Charles's hands was none other than the legendary Green Dragon Crescent Blade, renowned throughout his homeland.
And the name of this form of his innate armament was the title once bestowed upon that great general—the Martial Saint!
