Chapter 2 - The Third Young Master

Chapter 2: The Third Young Master

Run?

Xu Yuan halted in place, stunned as he looked back at the giant Buddha head with eyes gradually dimming in the darkness.

Details he had overlooked moments ago surfaced in his mind, and Xu Yuan suddenly seemed to understand something.

Reality wasn’t like anime or movies; if an enemy could kill you with a sneak attack, they wouldn’t strike a pose and wait for you to notice them.

Yet this giant Buddha, despite having silently arrived beside him, hadn’t attacked immediately. Only after he’d retreated to the edge of the hall did it choose to confront the woman in black.

The rain outside continued to fall in a steady drizzle. Inside the temple, the air felt cold enough to freeze.

Third Young Master.

Xu Yuan looked down at his extremely frail body, then suddenly exhaled a long breath.

The giant Buddha’s form of address, the condition of this body, and what had just happened gave him a vague guess about the world he had transmigrated into.

It was all too familiar.

What had just happened was almost identical to a scene from a 2.5D pixel art game he had played, Ancient Origin.

The giant Buddha, the dilapidated temple, the young master in brocade robes, and that ice-cold woman in black.

But the transition from 2.5D pixel art directly to first-person real-life perspective created such a vast difference that Xu Yuan, having just transmigrated, couldn’t immediately connect the two.

But now, the giant Buddha’s single phrase, “Third Young Master,” had suddenly enlightened him..

He had become the Third Young Master of the Grand Chancellor’s family.

That very same Third Young Master, who across the twenty-five different storylines had died twenty-five times in various ways. In other words, the most tragic character in the game.

However, realizing this actually eased the tension in Xu Yuan’s heart. He shifted his gaze forward.

Time seemed to slow in that moment. Raindrops sliding from the eaves splashed into bright silver lines in the darkness.

His eyes, now adjusted to the darkness, could vaguely make out a graceful figure approaching him.

The woman’s footsteps were light but distinct.

Darkness spread quickly through the Buddhist temple as the cold wind of the rainy night howled.

Finally, Xu Yuan met the gaze of those serene, glowing eyes of the black-clothed woman in the darkness.

“You are…”

A man’s voice, gentle and smooth as flowing water, sounded in the darkness..

Judging by the voice alone, one could imagine a handsome young gentleman, refined as jade.

This Third Young Master’s appearance must be handsome.

As these random thoughts crossed his mind, Xu Yuan continued.

“…Ran Qingmo?”

Before he finished speaking, a cold gleam flashed through the woman’s serene eyes.

Yet, upon seeing that bone-chilling iciness in her eyes, Xu Yuan felt relieved.

He had guessed correctly. This was the world from that game.

The current situation matched with the plot he knew. Xu Yuan immediately recalled that this big ice block’s objective was to capture him, not kill him.

Because she still needed to use him to “persuade” his BOSS father, who was about to wage war.

Regardless of how he might die in the future, for this moment, the immediate threat to Xu Yuan’s life was removed. The pressure lessened dramatically.

They stared at each other for several seconds.

The cold gleam in the black-clothed woman’s eyes gradually receded. She turned around and said flatly, “Follow me.”

Xu Yuan realized she was preparing to relocate.

The corpses outside and the “Living Buddha” in the temple were all subordinates of this body’s father. Although the woman had left no survivors by her sword, this location was clearly no longer safe to stay in for her.

But while she wanted to leave, Xu Yuan absolutely couldn’t just follow her like this.

In the game Ancient Origin, different choices led to different endings. Within the game, there were several storylines where the original Third Young Master, the minor antagonist, had died while being held captive by this icy woman.

Although the details of these deaths were glossed over, he had definitely died.

So Xu Yuan stood still, staring at her silhouette in the darkness, trying to make his voice sound clear and calm.

“Heroine Ran, do you know what you’re doing right now?”

Heroine Ran was the respectful title the main character in Ancient Origin used for Ran Qingmo.

“…”

Xu Yuan’s sudden question seemed to catch the woman off guard.

She paused her steps, and her sharp gaze swept back, giving Xu Yuan goosebumps all over.

She didn’t speak, just stood silently in the darkness watching him.

Being stared at by this icy woman like this wasn’t a pleasant feeling. Xu Yuan frantically searched his memories of the game’s plot, confirming that she wouldn’t kill him at this point in the story.

She repeated, “Follow me.”

Xu Yuan maintained his composure and said word by word, “You won’t kill me.”

With a casual flick of her wrist, Ran Qingmo drew a thick, long wooden stick towards her from the ground.

Holding the stick, she stood silently while staring at Xu Yuan.

Xu Yuan: “…”

Taking a deep breath, he followed behind the woman.

Xu Yuan maintained a seemingly carefree appearance and said softly, “Heroine Ran, capturing me is meaningless.”

Ran Qingmo still didn’t respond. She walked silently towards the temple entrance, sword in one hand, wooden stick in the other.

Xu Yuan struggled to keep his voice at an even tone.

“Someone like my father won’t change his decisions based on whether I live or die.”

Ran Qingmo finally spoke lightly, her voice still cool and detached.

“What are you trying to say?”

Outside the temple, the rain continued to fall, striking the eaves and cascading down like strings of pearls, creating ripples in the puddles.

Hearing her finally speak, Xu Yuan immediately replied, “I’m talking about your purpose in capturing me.”

Speaking, he smiled slyly.

“Heroine Ran, you captured me because you want to save the forty thousand disciples of the Heavenly Origin Sword Sect—”

WHOOSH—

Before he could finish, time within the temple seemed to freeze.

An overwhelming killing intent surged abruptly. A gale erupted from the woman, swirling around her and making Xu Yuan’s robes flutter wildly!

An invisible, immense pressure gradually emanated from the woman’s silhouette hidden in darkness. Just by standing there, she nearly forced Xu Yuan to kneel.

Forced back two steps by the pressure, Xu Yuan clenched his fists inside his wide sleeves and gripped a wooden pillar to steady himself.

In the darkness, the chilling killing intent radiating from the woman made his hair stand on end.

This sudden change caught Xu Yuan off guard. He didn’t understand why Ran Qingmo would react so strongly to his words.

In a split second, his mind raced through the game’s plot. He suddenly realized he had said something wrong.

The Grand Chancellor’s annihilation of the Heavenly Origin Sword Sect was common knowledge to him, the “player.”

But to the people of this world, this event should still be in the planning stages, a closely guarded secret known only to his cheapskate father and a few of his most trusted confidants.

At this point in time, the Sect Master of the Heavenly Origin Sword Sect was still the esteemed State Preceptor of the Great Yan Imperial Dynasty and still an old friend who had worked alongside his Grand Chancellor father for decades.

To say that the Grand Chancellor was planning to destroy the Heavenly Origin Sword Sect was something that even the Sect Master himself wouldn’t believe.

Although the original owner of this body was the third legitimate son of the Grand Chancellor, his reputation as a debauched wastrel who indulged in every vice made it inconceivable that he would know such a secret at this juncture.

Cold sweat trickled down.

I’m screwed.

At this moment, Ran Qingmo had turned completely around. Her eyes emitted an eerie blue glow in the darkness. She walked toward Xu Yuan while drawing her sword.

“How do you know that?”
