Extreme Pampering

Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Pei Yu is here too?

Zhouwan Nanyuan, a waiter led the way in front, the corridor was laid with a neatly posh ivory-colored carpet, allowing for a silent and light walk. Shen Zhiyi's eyes were slightly downcast, the chandelier above casting splashes of scintillating colors on her profile.

This place brought her back to the night of the third anniversary with Huo Heng, when she was left alone here. Even if she had not run into Pei Yu, she might have encountered someone else, or even worse, something that could have completely destroyed her acting career.

Huo Heng had also thought of this and had deliberately slowed down to walk beside Shen Zhiyi, whispering to explain, "I've already had people look into who drugged your drink that night. The problematic drink was originally in my hand, it's very likely the person was targeting me."

In such an occasion, it wasn't easy to pull off such a scheme. Huo Heng couldn't think of anyone who would target him, but it was because of him that Shen Zhiyi got involved.

Fortunately, Shen Zhiyi was there, otherwise if it had indeed been him who was drugged...

Huo Heng said earnestly, "Don't worry, once I find the person, I will certainly not let them off easily."

Walking ahead, Xu Xia suddenly turned around, saw Huo Heng talking to Shen Zhiyi, and immediately slowed down, "Brother Huo, I'm a bit nervous."

Huo Heng immediately walked alongside her, softly comforting, "There is nothing to be nervous about. Just be polite and greet the people later, they won't make it hard for you in such a social setting."

From the other side of Huo Heng, Xu Xia glanced over to Shen Zhiyi, her gaze although subtle, was filled with covert vigilance.

How ironic, Xu Xia had never cared during the three years of her sham relationship with Huo Heng, but now that she had actively cleared things up with him, Xu Xia turned vigilant?

Though nostalgic, Shen Zhiyi never again cared about things she had discarded.

"We're here," the director turned to remind them, "We're meeting Mr. Qin from Songjian Media, be sharp everyone."

Xu Xia nodded obediently, following the director closely into the box. So what if Songjian Media wanted to promote Shen Zhiyi? She could still claw back the resources and connections.

Is this Mr. Qin really Shen Zhiyi's backer?

Several people were already seated in the box, including the screenwriter and producer, and sitting in the middle was a middle-aged man in a dark grey suit, looking refined—that was Mr. Qin.

Shen Zhiyi followed the director and took her seat, a probing gaze fell upon her, and as she raised her head, her eyes met those of Qin Fangru, who unexpectedly greeted her with a friendly smile that seemed profound.

Does he know her?

Expecting someone who didn't show up, her speculation quietly dispersed. Shen Zhiyi found it rather amusing, laughing at her own wishful thinking. How could he, who probably didn't even know what role he was playing, intervene without her asking?

She sat quietly listening to the people chatting around her, curious why Mr. Qin suddenly decided to invest in this drama and had specifically asked the screenwriter to modify her role, but she didn't rush to ask.

However, Huo Heng couldn't hold back. He had already figured that this Mr. Qin was the financier behind Shen Zhiyi. Qin Fangru, he had heard of—already married, Shen Zhiyi being involved with such a man was even lower than a mistress. How could she degrade herself like this?

Huo Heng took a sip of red wine, feeling unusually agitated. Shen Zhiyi breaking up with him for such a person, did she really think the resources he could provide were inferior to those of Qin Fangru?

"Mr. Qin."

The director was in the middle of conversing with Qin Fangru when he was suddenly interrupted by Huo Heng, his expression somewhat displeased. However, Qin Fangru seemed quite tolerant, "What is it?"

Huo Heng's face was flushed; many knew he couldn't hold his alcohol well, and Shen Zhiyi had covered for him at many social events before. Seeing him like this, they felt an ominous premonition.

Was he going to create a scene here?

Shen Zhiyi looked toward Xu Xia, unexpectedly, she didn't seem to have any intention of stopping him, her gaze calmly fixed on her glass in front of her.

Huo Heng had already asked a question many people wanted to know, "Mr. Qin, I heard that the script alteration was your idea. Why do you favor Shen Zhiyi so much, do you know her?"

The remark was outrageously offensive. Even if people had already speculated more blatantly and excessively in their minds, none would voice such a question, accepting the unspoken agreement.

The atmosphere at the table immediately stiffened. The director attempted to stand and smooth things over, but saw Qin Fangru wave his hand.

He said meaningfully, "Modifying the script was not my idea."

He was also curious. He didn't know who Miss Shen was, or why she warranted such effort.

The director quickly followed up, "Exactly, Director Qin is so busy, how could he attend to something like a script modification? Huo Heng, you asked the wrong person, right, Screenwriter Liao?"

Everyone present was sharp, and in just a few words, they redirected the conversation.

The director invited the actors to toast Director Qin. Shen Zhiyi, holding her wine glass, stood up. For no reason at all, she suddenly remembered his words, "Don't drink if you don't want to; no one is worth your discomfort."

She lowered her long lashes and smiled faintly.

She had remembered him many times today.

"Miss Shen, you needn't."

As Shen Zhiyi was about to raise her glass, Qin Fangru suddenly stopped her, smiling and saying, "Miss Shen can substitute wine with water."

He really couldn't accept that glass of wine.

Why did he let others toast, yet specifically prevent Shen Zhiyi from doing so? Everyone's minds were buzzing with speculation.

Shen Zhiyi's brow was slightly furrowed, uncertain of what Qin Fangru meant, and it seemed he had not given her any special attention during their conversation.

As the rounds of drinks continued and the room filled with the scent of alcohol, Shen Zhiyi stepped out into the corridor for some air, feeling conflicted about whether to call Pei Yu. She was very curious about whether he had intervened in this matter.

"Is it him?"

Huo Heng stood a few steps away, his gaze intense, "Is Director Qin the one supporting you?"

His persistence on this matter surpassed Shen Zhiyi's expectations. She looked at him, the man she had earnestly liked for over a decade, with an expressionless face. "How do you expect me to answer?"

He didn't care how panicked she was the day she was drugged, or whether she was physically harmed, yet he suspected her of being someone's mistress over some groundless assumptions. How ironic.

"Of course, I hope you are not! But Director Qin's behavior towards you—"

"Mr. Huo," Qin Fangru appeared behind him, yet his words were directed at Shen Zhiyi, "Miss Shen, please come to the roof."

He approached and lowered his voice, suggestive, "He is also there."

Shen Zhiyi looked up in surprise. Pei Yu was also here?

She turned and walked away, her steps hurried, her skirt fluttering softly in the air.

Huo Heng impulsively wanted to follow.

"Huo Heng, right?" Qin Fangru kindly reminded, "Stay away from Miss Shen."

None of the Pei Family had a good temper, and his capabilities could make the entire Pei Family tremble. Those who thought of touching his belongings wouldn't end well.
