Extra's Awakening: I Became The Dragon Sage Of The Underworld

Chapter 6: The Power Of An Extra

[Summoning: Volton]

CLAP!

The sky split open with a blinding flash, illuminating the darkened landscape of the battleground. In that heartbeat of brightness, the air crackled with energy, and then came the thunderclap—a deep, reverberating roar that seemed to shake the ground beneath their feets as the lightning descending upon them.

Undoubtedly, the job was done.

He had successfully eradicated the kids who posed a threat to him and his ambitions as a double agent, or so he thought.

He felt a cold chill down his spine, an overwhelming presence that transcended the existence of Soul-Users. Unable to fathom this feeling, he instantly turned around only to find himself in one of his greatest nightmare.

Standing before him was Rentaro who could barely stand on his feet, the five unconscious students and most worrisome of all, the head of a dragon.

"W-W-W.." His eyes wavered continuously in disbelief unable to surmise the current event, he tried to find the right words to use but it simply refused to come.

As the cloud of dust created from the lightning bolt cleared out completely, he stood face-to-face with a massive blue dragon. Its scales shimmering like sapphires under the sunlight. With wings that crackled and sparked, each powerful beat sending arcs of electricity cascading into the air.

"A dragon!??" He exclaimed, finally finding his words.

It wasn't just any dragon, it was a massive electric dragon covered in scales that shimmered vibrant shades of blue while its long, sinuous tail ended in a series of sharp, jagged spikes that crackled with energy.

The dragon's wings had a wide span, vast and feathered with translucent membranes that glowed faintly, veins pulsing with arcs of lightning. It's elongated neck provided support for it's huge head adorned with sharp, elongated horns that resembled jagged bolts.

With a mighty roar, the pressure from it's roar alone cleared out a vast majority of the trees down the forest's path. A terrifying sight to behold.

"Who summoned me here?" With each word the dragon spoke, his voice resembled a sudden clap of thunder which led the man to forcefully succumb to the fear within him and dropped his rod to the ground.

Scanning the environment with it's intimidating eyes, the dragon surmised the possibility of his summoner by location and it's eyes scrolled down at the boy below.

"What? A mere child summoned me? Absurd!" It's voice thundered through the sky, heavily displeased by this information.

Paying closer attention to the child, he noticed the blood flowing through down his hands.

"I see, a blood contract? When did I make a contract with a pesky human child? Well I guess it doesn't matter now, a blood contract binds a beast and it's summoner forever till death. However, do not assume that my power is yours! You humans al-"

"Volton." He called out softly to the dragon, interrupting his warnings. Was he scared by the sight of the dragon? Of course, but right now the dragon was more of an ally to him.

"I don't want your power." He said with a weak voice.

His request left Volton puzzled, this was simply not the outcome that he expected. Since the beginning of time dragons had always existed, living freely as the apex predator. That was until mankind arrived, they sought the dragons for power, power to wage wars against other humans.

Tired of being constantly viewed as tools for battle, the dragons disappeared from the mortal realm after a series of events that took place. Till this day, not only did dragons view humans as inferior creatures, they viewed them unworthy of their power.

Because of this, Rentaro's words came as a sudden blow to him.

"HAHAHA! Don't mess around with me human!" Volton's voice thundered through the sky again as he chuckled.

Paying close attention, he realized from the firm gaze in Rentaro's eyes that he wasn't joking one bit, he really had no intentions of claiming his power as his own.

'This kid...'

"Impossible!" The man finally snapped after breaking through from his fears. "A talentless kid like you who couldn't even awaken a Soul-Type? Summon a dragon? Absurd! I'll destroy you and your goddamn illusions!"

He picked up the staff and pointed it at the sky once again, this time, multiple bolts of lightning rained down at once at the dragon and the kids, creating many clouds of smoke.

As the smoke cleared out, what happened next left the man completely stunned. Volton spread his wide wingspan over the kids, shielding them from the several bolts of lightning, but that wasn't all. His vibrant wings absorbed the static electricity from the lightning and powered up the dragon.

'I see.' Volton thought as he found Rentaro shielding Daichi's body.

"I'll acknowledge your request this once human child, but do not think I am doing you a favor. I'm just simply fulfilling my part of the contract."

Without warning, Volton emitted a spiral blast of blue flames at Rentaro.

"What?" The man stuttered, from his point of view, the dragon had attacked it's own summoner. Confusing as it was, this came as an advantage.

As the flames dissipated slowly, the dragon disappeared into a cloud of smoke, returning to wherever it was he came from.

As the cloud of smoke settled, Rentaro who was near unconsciousness seemed to have regained a portion of his strength.

"What is this.." He muttered softly, multiple electric currents sparking off his body simultaneously.

"Electricity?" It sparked off his palm and for a moment, he felt power surging through him.

"Now!" Finding this as the perfect opportunity, the man picked up the rod from the ground and charged forward at Rentaro. Before he could make any more surprising twists, he was going to kill him.

However, before he could reach him, Rentaro vanished from his sights.

"What!?"

"Amazing." The man heard a voice muttering behind, swiftly he turned around and found Rentaro several meters behind him.

"What did you do?" He questioned with disbelief.

'I see.' Rentaro grinned softly, he realized now that the phenomenon happening to him was simply him truly awakening his talent.

"I said what did you do!?" Out of patience, the man dashed forward, clutching his rod in hands and stretching it forward, releasing several balls of flames at Rentaro.

With precision, Rentaro evaded all as he plunged forward as well.

"It's not possible! How can a talentless brat move like this!" The man screamed furiously.

"Believe it or not, this is my hour of awakening."

Before the man could catch a glimpse of Rentaro, he appeared directly in front of him with a slight grin, his back leaned forward and his left leg stretched out backwards. Instantly, he stretched out his right palm, building a pulsating spiraling blue ball of energy.

'Damn!' He tried to back away, but his momentum prevented him doing so in time.

Without warning, Rentaro drove the blue ball of energy into the man's stomach.

The man's eyes as well as his mouth expanded in size, his pupils dilated from the shock that coursed through his body after feeling a sharp pain tearing through his stomach. Like a speeding bullet, he was propelled several meters backwards.

After several crashes into the ground, the man slumped deep into the darkness, succumbing to death's humble embrace.

Several translucent blue screen appeared in Rentaro's line of vision, with several inscriptions written after the whirlwind of destruction.
