Extra's Awakening: I Became The Dragon Sage Of The Underworld

Chapter 12: Nobles And Commoners

"What's he doing here?" Yui voiced out, pointing her finger at Rentaro.

All eyes turned to Rentaro who just waved gently at his team who abandoned him. Was he angry? Slightly, he felt betrayed but it didn't matter. At the end of the day it always came down to what he was, nothing but an extra.

However, that all changed the moment of his awakening.

"Is there a problem?" Shota asked, sensing a bit of tension in the air.

"Yes, those boys right there, how'd they get in?" Mei answered, a bit confused.

"Isn't it obvious?" Ren chimed in, a bit happy about the situation. He was against throwing Rentaro out of the team, but now that the tides had turned, he could stand up for him.

"He awakened, didn't you?" He asked, smiling softly as he directed his gaze at Rentaro.

"Obvious?" Yui spoke up, rebuking Ren's remarks. "Use your head Ren, there's no way a talentless kid like those two could awaken after being denied by the Orb of Awakening." She said, revealing her true colors.

Her statement caught everyone's attention, even that of Miyuki's, giving rise to murmurs in the classroom.

"Oh? Talentless?" Things were getting interesting, it was the first time Shota had ever heard of a talentless individual let alone two.

"You have some explaining to do Hana, if those boys really are talentless, why did Vance bring them here?"

"That's right, I forgot. Moments after these four passed out, that one over there awakened and qualified for the selection process enrollment, in a way you could say the same for the other kid." Hana explained, neglecting to explain this earlier to the kids and refusing to reveal that Rentaro had a second awakening.

"Awaken? Impossible." The top ranking student in Class C, spoke up.

"I've never heard of anyone awakening after denied by the Orb Of Awakening, admit it, you pulled some strings to get them to recommend you, didn't you, commoners?" The top ranking student as of last session, Sado, interrogated Rentaro and Daichi. From their dressing, he could tell that they were merely commoners.

'Great, now I also have to suffer being classmates with a spoiled noble. Damn, damn you Nezuna." Rentaro thought, blaming the goddess of fate's spell.

"I guess you'll just have to see, well then I'll leave them in your care. Nice to see you again." Winking at the homeroom teacher of Class C, she took her leave.

"Tch, precarious woman. Take your seats." He said, instructing the five individuals who had just walked in.

"Hmph, another bunch of commoners, are you sure it's okay to lower the standards of our prestigious academy sensei?" Sado asked, drawing soft laughters from the nobles that dominated the class in numbers.

"I've told you time and again Sado, belittling those beneath you is not proper. Now that we are all here, why don't you six introduce yourself."

"Gladly." Ren said, rising to his feet. "Ren Drear — C-rank Soul-Type — Elementalist Soul-Type — Pryokinesis." He spoke with a smug look on his face, attempting to shut up the prideful Silver.

"What? A C-rank Soul-Type? Not bad, but it's still below standards. How expected from a commoner." Sado said, laughing softly.

"Come on Sado stop bullying our new classmates." Another one of their new classmates, Silver, spoke up. He was also a noble just like Sado, but he always wished to interact with everyone equally.

"Next." Shota spoke, urging the next person to introduce themselves.

"Yui Freecs — B-rank Soul-Type — Zen Soul-Type — Psychic Telepath." As Yui proclaimed on her feet, her words left the whole class astonished.

"Huh!?" Sado couldn't believe his ears, a commoner bearing the same Soul-Type as him?

"Oh?" Shota stuttered, surprised at the Soul-Types of the students who had brought in from Starhaven.

"Mei Suki — B-rank Soul-Type — Sub Elementalist Soul-Type — Ice." Mei spoke directly after Yui, rising up to her feet.

"What!?" The more they revealed their Soul-Types, the more Sado was left perplexed.

Silver chuckled softly, not only was he baffled, but the expression on Sado's face was something else entirely. 'Man, these transfer students are amazing aren't they?" He thought.

"Mizuko Haruno — A-rank Soul-Type — The Knight Soul-Type — Shadow Manipulation." Mizuko said immediately after Mei.

The whole class was left speechless, the smile on Silver's face wiped clean off. Before these seven arrived, the highest ranks in the class was a B-rank Soul-Type. Only two out of the 13 students had this, Silver and Sado.

Now a bunch of commoners excluding Miyuki, was overshadowing them.

"Impossible! A commoner awaken an A-rank Soul-Type!?" Sado exclaimed, simply refusing to accept this.

Ren grinned softly.

'I might not have been the one to wipe the smug off that prideful bastard, but at least it's fulfilling.' He thought.

"Oh?" Shota stuttered, smiling at the talents that were dropped on his class. "The rookies this year are promising."

It all came down to Daichi and Rentaro, which was the main subject of the chosen four's curiosity.

Daichi stood to his feet, taking a deep breath before he spoke. "Daichi Ryuu, I have no Soul-Type." His words left the entire classroom dumbfounded.

Mei smiled softly, this meant that it was the same case for Rentaro. She feared if Rentaro truly awakened, she messed up by encouraging Mizuko to kick him out of the group.

"So they really are talentless? Sensei, wouldn't it be better to delegate them rather than have them here?" Sado said, suggesting their immediate expulsion for false entry.

"Wait just a second Sado, if Vance recommended them then he really must have saw something in them." Shota replied.

"Hey kid, if you have no Soul-Type, what made you worthy enough for Vance to recommend you for the Soul Academy?"

"It's true that I have no Soul-Type, but in return for having a high Soul-Energy and no Soul-Type, I gained something that'll help me achieve my dreams." Daichi replied boldly, ignoring the comments of his new classmates and following his heart.

"Oh?" Shota mumbled, crossing his arms and closing his eyes before resting on the walls. "And what would that be?"

"The Inner Soul formation."

The class went silent as he revealed how he had managed to get into the Soul Academy.

"Inner Soul Formation?"

Shota opened his right eye, his expression changed on the mention of the Inner Soul Formation.

"The Inner Soul Formation? I see, I presume you came in contact with the A-rank Soul-Hunter Shun Li?" He asked, the tone of his voice instantly deepening.

"Yes."

"I see, you may sit." He said, turning his gaze to Rentaro as a signal to introduce himself.

With a soft sigh, Rentaro stood to his feet, taking a glance at the whole class before turning his sights to the homeroom teacher.

Mizuko paid close attention to his words, the only way a talentless individual like him could have made the Soul Academy probably had to be the Inner Soul Formation just like Daichi.

With a deep breath, Rentaro spoke. "Rentaro Mizuno — D-rank Soul-Type — Elementalist Soul-Type — Electrokinesis."

They all stared at Rentaro, most with glances that displayed their displeasure. D-rank Soul-Types and below weren't supposed to be admitted but somehow he got admitted into the academy.

Even Daichi was a bit astonished, however it didn't last long as his disbelief turned into a gentle smile.

Shota uncrossed his arms, stepping forward in front of the class with his gaze fixated on Rentaro.

"I take it you're the one who defeated him and saved the life of the other five who got recommended?".

"That's right."

Hearing they were saved by Rentaro made things even worse for them, they kicked him out of the team because they thought he was incompetent. But as it stood, they were the incompetent ones all along regardless of ranks.

"Alright then, now that we are all aquatinted, I'll go straight to the point."

His expression turned pale, his eyes gleaming with no emotions and all trace of his smile vanished. The tone of his voice got even darker as he laid out the truth.

"You are all scum."

His sudden change surprised them, they felt the piercing intensity of his gaze, scared out of their wits.

"To be placed in class is nothing but an utter disgrace for those wishing to attain the rank of the Soul-Hunter. Listen carefully, there are two classes that exists in this school, Class A and B. You are class B, a bunch of kids with less considerable Soul-Types."
