Chapter 8: Tower Illusion
Kael and Aveline stepped onto the next floor, but instead of the dark room they had been in before, they found themselves in a brightly lit room with glass walls that reflected their silhouettes. The sky above them looked like outer space, filled with stars and swirling nebulae. The floor beneath their feet was like a mirror, reflecting their every move.
"This is different from before," Kael muttered as he examined his surroundings.
Aveline held the Prisma tightly. "I feel a great energy here. Be careful, Kael."
Suddenly, a cold voice echoed throughout the room.
"Welcome to the Arena of Illusion. Here, you will face your worst shadow."
Before they could react, the room changed. The mirrors on the floor shattered, revealing a new world beneath them—a vast red desert, filled with the ruins of ancient technology.
The Illusionary Enemy Appears
From the ruins, two figures emerged. Kael was shocked to see that one of them had the exact same face as him, but with glowing red eyes and a dark aura surrounding him.
"That's… me?" Kael muttered, feeling a chill run down his spine.
On the other side, Aveline saw a figure with a face that was very familiar to her old friend who had betrayed her, bringing destruction to her family.
"You shouldn't be here," Aveline whispered, the Prism in her hand shaking violently.
Their shadows began to attack without warning. Kael faced a much faster and stronger version of himself, each slash of his sword almost like lightning. Meanwhile, Aveline fought against an enemy who continued to attack her with painful illusions from her past.
Technology and Strategy
The Prism suddenly projected a small hologram in front of Aveline, displaying information about the enemy.
"These shadows are the result of the tower's technology, creating illusions based on your fears and traumas," the message read.
"Destroy the core beneath the ruins to stop them."
Aveline shouted to Kael. "We can't fight them head-on! We have to find the tower's core!"
Kael nodded, dodging a quick attack from his shadows. "You find the core, I'll hold them off!"
Aveline used the Prism to scan the area, finding a flash of energy beneath one of the ruins. But his enemy continued to chase him, forcing him to fight on the move.
Synchronization Moment
Kael, increasingly overwhelmed by his own shadow, began to run out of energy. Every attack he made seemed to be against himself, his movements predictable.
Aveline suddenly shouted, "Kael! Trust the Prisma to me for a moment!"
Despite her hesitation, Kael threw the Prisma to Aveline. As soon as the Prisma touched his hand, blue energy spread around it, creating a protective field.
"I know how to defeat them," Aveline said, her gaze filled with determination. "We must attack together, at the same time!"
Kael nodded, taking a deep breath. "Then give me the signal."
Aveline focused the Prisma's energy, creating a beam of light that shot toward the enemy's core.
"Now!" Aveline shouted.
Kael and Aveline attacked together, their energies merging in a massive explosion that instantly destroyed the enemy's illusion. The room shook violently, and everything returned to calm.
After the Battle
Kael sat on the floor, breathing heavily. "That was… too close."
Aveline smiled faintly, though her body was shaking. "But we made it, Kael. Because we worked together."
The prism in her hand glowed softly again, projecting a map of the next floor. Before they could continue, however, Kael saw Aveline looking at him with a soft expression.
"Kael," she said softly. "I know we're fighting to survive, but I want you to know… I feel stronger because you're here."
Kael was taken aback, but he smiled warmly. "Me too, Aveline. And I promise, I'll always be here to protect you."
They stared at each other for a moment, before a thunderous roar signaled the opening of the door to the next floor. With renewed determination, they stepped forward, ready to face a greater challenge.
