Eternal Rebirth: The System's Chosen Exile

Chapter 4: Chapter 4: The Hidden Potential

Lin Wei woke the next morning feeling sore but strangely energized. The Trial of Flames had pushed him to his limits, but it had also awakened something within him—a faint spark of confidence. He wasn't just a lost soul in this strange world anymore. He was a cultivator, glitchy system and all.

As he stretched and got dressed, he noticed something different about his body. His muscles felt tighter, more defined, and the burn on his arm from the fire creature had already healed, leaving only a faint scar. He flexed his hand, feeling a faint surge of Qi flowing through him.

"Guess the trial did more than just scare me half to death," he muttered to himself.

There was a knock at the door, and Jiang Feng entered, carrying a small pouch. "Morning," he said, tossing the pouch to Lin Wei. "Eat this. It'll help replenish your Qi."

Lin Wei opened the pouch to find a handful of small, glowing berries. He popped one into his mouth, surprised by its sweet, tangy flavor. Almost immediately, he felt a surge of energy, as if the berry had jump-started his system.

"What are these?" he asked, eating another.

"Spirit Berries," Jiang Feng replied. "They're packed with Qi. Perfect for recovering after a tough trial. Now, come on. We've got work to do."

Lin Wei followed Jiang Feng out of the hut, feeling more alert than he had in days. The village was already bustling with activity, and the air was filled with the sound of clashing swords and the hum of Qi. It was a strange, almost surreal sight, but Lin Wei was starting to get used to it.

Jiang Feng led him to a secluded area near the edge of the village, where a small waterfall cascaded into a crystal-clear pool. The air here was thick with Qi, and Lin Wei could feel it tingling against his skin.

"This is one of the best spots in the village for cultivation," Jiang Feng explained. "The waterfall's energy enhances your Qi absorption. Today, we're going to work on refining your control."

Lin Wei nodded, sitting down on a flat rock near the pool. "Alright. What do I do?"

"Close your eyes and focus on your Qi," Jiang Feng instructed. "Feel it flowing through your body. Then, try to guide it—move it through your meridians and into your core. The goal is to make it stronger and more stable."

Lin Wei closed his eyes, focusing on the faint spark of Qi in his chest. He imagined it as a small flame, flickering weakly. Slowly, he tried to guide it, pulling it through his arms and legs, then back into his core. At first, it was difficult, like trying to herd a stubborn animal. But as he concentrated, the Qi began to flow more smoothly.

Suddenly, his system screen flickered to life:

**[New Quest: Refine your Qi. Reward: Random Ability.]**

Lin Wei opened his eyes, staring at the screen. "Uh, my system just gave me another quest."

Jiang Feng nodded. "Good. That means it's responding to your efforts. Keep going."

Lin Wei closed his eyes again, focusing on the quest. He continued to guide his Qi, feeling it grow stronger with each cycle. The energy in the waterfall seemed to amplify his efforts, and soon, the spark in his chest had grown into a steady flame.

As he worked, his system screen flickered again:

**[Ability Acquired: Qi Sense (Glitch Variant).]**

**[Description: Sense the flow of Qi in your surroundings. Range and accuracy may vary.]**

Lin Wei opened his eyes, feeling a strange new awareness. He could sense the Qi in the air, the water, even the plants around him. It was like seeing the world in a whole new way.

"I think I just got a new ability," he said, turning to Jiang Feng. "Qi Sense."

Jiang Feng looked impressed. "That's a useful skill. Try it out. See if you can sense my Qi."

Lin Wei focused, activating the ability. He could feel Jiang Feng's Qi—a strong, steady flow that radiated power. But there was something else, too. A faint, almost imperceptible glitch in the energy, like a ripple in a calm pond.

"I can sense your Qi," Lin Wei said. "But there's something… off about it. Like a glitch."

Jiang Feng's eyes widened. "Interesting. Your system's glitch might be giving you insights that others can't see. That could be incredibly valuable."

Lin Wei nodded, feeling a flicker of excitement. His system might be broken, but it was also unique. And if he could learn to harness its potential, he might be able to do things no one else could.

They spent the rest of the morning practicing, with Lin Wei refining his Qi and testing his new ability. By the time they took a break for lunch, he felt stronger and more in control than ever before.

As they sat by the pool, eating Spirit Berries and dried meat, Jiang Feng turned to him. "You're making progress. Faster than I expected, honestly. But don't get too comfortable. The path of cultivation is long and difficult. You've only just begun."

Lin Wei nodded, feeling a mix of pride and apprehension. He had come a long way in just a few days, but he knew there was still so much more to learn.

"What's next?" he asked.

Jiang Feng smiled. "Next, we start working on your combat skills. You've got the basics of Qi control down, but you'll need more than that to survive in this world."

Lin Wei groaned. "More training? Can't I just take a nap?"

Jiang Feng laughed. "No naps. Not yet, anyway. Come on. Let's get to work."

As they stood up and prepared for the next phase of training, Lin Wei couldn't help but feel a sense of determination. He still had a long way to go, but he was starting to believe that he could do this. His system might be glitchy, but it was also powerful. And if he could learn to control it, maybe he could defy the heavens after all.
