Chapter 23: Chapter 23 Between Life and Death: Counter Killing (Part 2)
"Ah..."
Boom!
Yin Tian'er stared blankly as the bear chasing her fell from the sky, hitting the ground in the cave and bouncing up more than half a foot, immediately screaming and running towards Li Yuanyang. In her eyes, Li Yuanyang was the only one in the cave who could protect her.
But she had only run a few steps when she realized that Li Yuanyang was nowhere to be seen in her line of sight.
Where was he?
Yin Tian'er looked around but saw no sign of him, then she looked down and saw Li Yuanyang rolling on the ground.
She screamed out loud, her body covered in goosebumps!
Because Li Yuanyang's face, covered by his hands, was emitting tendrils of green smoke, and the flesh on his hands was visibly rotting!
Terrifying! Horrifying!
To Yin Tian'er, seeing Li Yuanyang at that moment was like looking into hell!
"If you don't want to die, stay away from the green smoke."
Yin Tian'er stiffly turned her head to look at the speaker, who was Xie Tian. His speech was muffled, but Yin Tian'er understood. Her stiff mind also grasped why Xie Tian's speech was so unclear; his mouth too was emitting green smoke, albeit much less than Li Yuanyang's.
"Oh." Yin Tian'er immediately stepped back until her smooth back was pressed tightly against the stone wall, where she finally stopped, trembling violently.
Xie Tian, enduring the terror of impending death, pulled a two-inch-long iron spike from his chest, put it into his mouth, and fiercely scraped off the flesh and blood tainted with Red Alum Liquid!
Ugh! Ugh!...
Seeing this, Yin Tian'er's upper body suddenly leaned forward, and she vomited violently.
I can't die! I can't die!
Xie Tian was in agony, his soul nearly shattered, but his severed right arm was eerily steady under the control of the Eighteen Brocades. With agonizing pain, he forced himself to stay conscious and calm, slowly scraping the green flesh out of his mouth.
He had calculated every step, plotting meticulously. He had successfully killed Li Yuanyang, something no one could have imagined, with someone attacking using Red Alum Liquid spit from the mouth. However, he hadn't anticipated that mere chicken meat wouldn't block the Red Alum Liquid even momentarily; while plotting to kill Li Yuanyang, he too was contaminated.
While vomiting, Yin Tian'er kept looking at Xie Tian. Deep down, she didn't want to witness such a brutal scene. She had never seen such a terrifying sight, but the more frightened she was, the less she could tear her eyes away from Xie Tian.
She didn't realize that sometimes horror, taken to the extreme, possesses a rare kind of beauty in this world, like Xie Tian who was brutally treating himself in a bid to survive.
The scene, though horrific, carried a strange allure, attracting countless gazes.
Only when Xie Tian's crazily throbbing normalized did he stop the brutality of his right hand, swallowing the blood continually emerging from his mouth, before leaning against the stone wall and passing out.
The moment he leaned over, the stone wall became wet with his sweat. The mortal terror caused by Red Alum Liquid and the severe pain from scraping his mouth were enough to kill anyone. Xie Tian survived, but at the cost of complete exhaustion.
Li Yuanyang, who had been rolling on the ground, also stopped, but his position was off. Yin Tian'er, nearly scared silly by a series of bizarre and terrifying events, stared blankly at Li Yuanyang above the campfire, motionless.
She knew Li Yuanyang was dead, but she didn't know how miserably he had died.
Li Yuanyang, hit directly in the face by the Red Alum Liquid, never had the chance to scream from start to finish. His throat had corroded instantly. Essentially, Li Yuanyang died without knowing how he died.
Because he had guessed wrong. Xie Tian drinking Red Alum Liquid wasn't to commit suicide, nor was it to mock him at the cost of his own life, but to kill him!
One step wrong, a thousand miles lost. Sadly, there is no remedy for regret in this world. Li Yuanyang, holding all the advantages, just because of a miscalculation at the last step, lost everything, including his life.
The cave had never been so silent, though the setting sun could not be seen, the ever-increasing red glow shone through the cave entrance onto Xie Tian's body, making Yin Tian'er stare blankly again.
Paleness surpassed that seen seven days ago; loneliness exceeded the figure seen seven days ago. Somehow, the water in Yin Tian'er's eyes increased as she became immersed in this face, and her inner fear gradually faded, replaced by tranquility.
As Yin Tian'er calmed down, a wild guess flashed through her mind, but she immediately shook her head, dismissing the unrealistic thought. If not that, then what could it be? As she pondered, she hugged her knees and placed her round chin on them.
When Xie Tian woke up, he found himself being watched by a pair of eyes. He turned his head, touched by the gaze, and then stood up again using the Eighteen Brocades technique.
Li Yuanyang's body had been partially burnt. Xie Tian crouched down, took three items from Li Yuanyang's chest: a Meridian Hammer, Li Yuanyang's personal weapon, the Black Bone Fan, and a chilling stone.
Xie Tian found the Meridian Hammer very handy. The Black Bone Fan was extremely complicated, much like its former owner. After the Black Bone Fan cooled down, Xie Tian fiddled with it a few times then, together with the incomprehensible stone, stuffed them into his chest and picked up the Meridian Hammer to walk towards the cave entrance.
"Are you, are you leaving?"
Xie Tian paused, then nodded.
Yin Tian'er uttered an "Oh," stood up, and walked around the unconscious form of Hei Manzi to follow behind Xie Tian, her small head hanging. She didn't know why she chose to follow someone with such a malicious aura.
"He came after you, it's not about me," Xie Tian said helplessly through the pain.
Yin Tian'er was stunned, her face losing all its luster, tears streaming down.
"I'm sorry, please, please help me..."
Xie Tian stepped out of the cave and walked into the beautiful sunset.
Yin Tian'er looked at the lonely figure in despair, but couldn't harbor any resentment in her heart, for seven days before, she too had disregarded a living being's march toward death. Now, as she was left to die herself, how could she complain?
"Sorry, so sorry..." Sobbing, she muttered as her eyes gradually dimmed. Just as darkness was about to engulf her completely, a blurry voice echoed beside her.
"I won't wait long for you."
That phrase was the most beautiful thing Yin Tian'er had heard in her lifetime. The darkness brought by despair dispersed instantaneously. She couldn't help but smile, her eyes clear again, looked ahead at the blurry, lonely figure. She lifted her torn skirt joyfully and ran into the sunset.
The sunset was indeed so beautiful that, at that moment, at least thousands of people from the Death God Fortress were looking up at the fading sun, necks sore yet no one dared to move.
Because a few who had moved before had their heads inexplicably fall off.
On Gou Jianyang's table, a blood-dripping sword lay. He glanced at the setting sun, took a sip of wine, and had just managed to sit down again with Gou Jianyang opposite him, glaring as he too took a sip.
Gou Jianyang had to smirk, raising his chin toward him, "Disagree?"
"Heh, I wouldn't dare," Gou Jianyang chuckled ruefully, his eyes strong and unyielding, "After all, you are the young master of the number one noble family in Song, not to mention slapping me, but even if you stabbed me multiple times, I would only have to accept it and could not refute."
"Nice words, but still not convinced," Gou Jianyang nodded, saying no more, his gaze shifting from the sunset to the fortress's broken gate.
The nine heads of the family almost simultaneously looked towards the gate. Soon, hurried footsteps sounded, even before the figure appeared, a panicked voice already filled the Death God Fortress.
"Report!"
A group of lackeys rushed into the fortress in a panic, suddenly realizing their comrades were all looking up at the sky, they too paused and then turned to look up.
"Fucking tired of living?" Gou Jianyang yelled, throwing a wine jar at the leader and cursed, "Spit it out quick!"
The leading lackey was smashed in the head and bleeding, hurriedly knelt down and exclaimed, "Report to the chief, the Yin family merchant team was suddenly attacked by unknown experts at the mountain base, casualties heavy, protector Yin Fang captured, miss Yin nowhere to be found!"
Upon hearing this, the nine leaders stood up abruptly, their fierce eyes all turned to Gou Jianyang at the same time.
"It was me," Gou Jianyang said unabashedly, his eyes sweeping over the nine leaders, speaking indifferently.
Zhao Xuyang barely suppressed his anger and spoke in a low voice, "Gou Jianyang, although us bandits of Hexi are despised, we still abide by rules when earning our keep. Now that you bring troops here and attack the Yin family merchant team on our turf, it's like smashing our signboard. May Gou Jianyang please explain!"
"Explain? Haha," Gou Jianyang poured himself a cup of wine leisurely, laughing, "Don't play the victim, I know it well. That decades-long vow has made you all dissatisfied. You are praised by the martial world for keeping promises, but for you, this vow is an engraved shame!"
Old Undying laughed eerily, "Gou Jianyang didn't come here just to watch the sunset, but rather to alleviate our troubles in Hexi?"
Gou Jianyang burst out laughing, his spirit high as he exclaimed, "Exactly! By this time tomorrow, the entire martial world will know that the Yin family merchant team was completely annihilated in the Hexi corridor, and that you, the robbers of Hexi, are the murderer!"
"Fucking, screwing things up and still dare to frame us, I'll fight you!"
The man beside Zhao Xuyang, furious, lifted a nine-ring saber wanting to charge at Gou Jianyang, but was firmly held back by Zhao Xuyang.
Gou Jianyang coldly watched the man, "Considering this is our first meeting, and you don't know my character, I'll spare your dog life—cut off your own arm!"
"Hahaha, what a joke!" the man laughed wildly, pointing at Gou Jianyang and cursed, "If you want grandpa's life, come and take it! Just with one word... Ah! Zhao Xuyang, my hand!"
Zhao Xuyang withdrew his blood-red hand and helped the man with the severed arm, saying coldly to Gou Jianyang, "Let's cut down on the small talk, tell us what this visit is really about!"
Gou Jianyang looked again toward the setting sun, speaking faintly, "This visit is solely to retrieve Yin Tian'er to be my ninth wife, also, the oath document between Hexi bandits and Yin family is with Yin Tian'er!"
Upon hearing this, the pupils of the nine leaders contracted!
"Is that true?"
"The words spoken by Yin family's second, would they be false?"
Gou Jianyang smiled coldly, stood up and said, "Speaking of which, I'm actually saving you. If Yin Tian'er escapes, she will come to use the oath document to coerce you into becoming my enemies. Even after this event, even if your agreement is annulled, you'll have made a great enemy in me, with destruction imminent!"
Gou Jianyang incredulously swallowed, asking, "Gou Jianyang, what exactly do you mean?"
"Do I need to spell it out? Oh, well." Gou Jianyang laughed, shaking his head, slowly saying, "You all just need to stand by and watch. At the moment when the setting sun hits the mountain ridge, it will be the time my men have captured Yin Tian'er, by that time, I, Gou Jianyang, will present the oath document with both hands, how about that?"
"Most generous!"
The nine heads looked at each other, unable to contain their excitement, and turned to look towards the setting sun upon the mountain ridge, finally appreciating its beauty.
After a period of time, heavy footsteps sounded outside the Death God Fortress gate, including Gou Jianyang, ten people stood up, their piercing eyes fixed on the gate.
Black tight-fitting clothes! A clanging of metal and iron!
Black Barbarian!
Gou Jianyang smiled.
However, when he saw the corpse carried on Black Barbarian's shoulder, his smile instantly stiffened.
"Fuck! Gou Jianyang, your ninth wife ran off with someone!"
Like a thunderbolt, Black Barbarian's words scorched Gou Jianyang inside and out.
