Chapter 21: Chapter 21 Between Life and Death - Escape (Part 3)
"Miss, run quickly!"
Yin Fang wiped the fresh blood from his eyes and bellowed at Yin Tian'er like a fierce ghost, "Escort the miss to safety!"
The guards beside Yin Tian'er didn't even have time to apologize as they quickly lifted her up and dashed into the dense forest. In just that brief moment, the Yin family's guards were down three rows, nearly forty people, under the assault of the black cavalry.
The battlefield was in utter chaos. The Yin family's merchant caravan was ready for battle, but to their dismay, they never expected to be charged by a cavalry in a manner typically seen only on battlefields. They were even more shocked when they found that their blades clanged against the black knights' armor as if striking metal.
The moment the charge occurred, Yin Fang knew the Yin family's caravan was doomed. Even as a leader at the first level of the Inner Qi realm, he realized he might not escape.
Because these hundred or so cavalrymen were clearly the elite of the army!
And even the cultivation levels of the three black-clad individuals skirting the formation were also at the first level of the Inner Qi realm!
"At this point, the only way out is death!"
Yin Fang exerted all his strength in a slash, fiercely knocking down one man, but before he could withdraw his blade stuck in the armor, a strong gust hit him from behind. With just one move, he was forced to abandon his weapon and roll awkwardly to escape with his life.
But after all, he was a high-level practitioner of Inner Qi, and once he adopted an unashamed fighting style, he posed a considerable threat to these soldiers who only had brute strength. He zigzagged through the flying gore, aiming for his attackers' throats and necks with each move. For a moment, it looked like he might actually break through.
"Master Xu, should I make a move?" Qiu Yang frowned upon seeing Yin Fang swiftly down more than a dozen people in a short time.
Master Xu shook his head and, without glancing at Yin Fang, looked in the direction Yin Tian'er had fled and said indifferently, "It's rare to encounter someone of the Inner Qi realm; it's good for our men to witness this. Qiu Yang, you stay and supervise the formation. Black brute, go bring your ninth sister-in-law back, and regroup at Shendan Fort by sunset!"
"Yes!" The black brute grinned broadly and asked, "And what will you be doing, Master Xu, while I go fetch her?"
Master Xu flicked the reins gently, and the sound of hooves echoed as he spoke calmly, "The Yin family has a secret pact with the Hexi bandits. We cannot leave the Hexi Corridor without resolving this issue. Remember, your ninth sister-in-law must not come into contact with the bandits. Whoever she meets, you kill!"
Although he didn't grasp the intricacies, the black brute didn't feel the need to probe further. With a light leap off his horse, he drew the twin maces from his saddlebag, gave Qiu Yang a nod, and barreled into the woods like a bear.
"Really?" Li Yuanyang was stunned and could hardly believe his ears.
Xie Tian didn't respond again but slowly explained the essentials of the first set of movements of the Primordial Cultivation Technique. Li Yuanyang was taken aback and began to memorize subconsciously. After Xie Tian repeated it for the third time, Li Yuanyang finally opened his complex, triangular eyes.
In those triangular eyes, confusion, ecstasy, admiration, and suspicion flickered. Xie Tian quietly watched Li Yuanyang deep in thought. As soon as the latter regained his senses, he said, "The first set of movements is simple. Try it a few times, and you will start to feel the birth of Primordial Yang."
On hearing these words, Li Yuanyang contained his excitement, took a deep breath, and stared intently at Xie Tian, confused, "Why would you tell me so easily?"
"You asked me to speak, so I spoke."
Li Yuanyang fell silent for a moment, then asked, "What do you want?"
"I'm very hungry, very thirsty," Xie Tian glanced again at the water bottle that was close at hand, yet seemingly out of reach.
"Heh, no rush." Seeing his state, a cunning light flashed in Li Yuanyang's eyes. He got up and paced back and forth, and not long after, he stopped, a troubled expression on his face, "Little brother, I might have to inconvenience you."
Before Xie Tian could recover, intense pain shot through his shoulders and hips, so agonizing that he nearly suffocated.
"Little brother, bear with it." Li Yuanyang withdrew his right palm and gently smiled, "After I cultivate the Primordial Cultivation Technique, I'll go out and get you some food. You know that a martial artist must not be disturbed during cultivation. You won't blame me for breaking your limbs, will you?"
It took a full quarter of an incense stick for Xie Tian to get past the pain and start breathing again. He nodded calmly, "I understand, go ahead with your cultivation. Remember, the key to the first set of movements lies in the word 'slowly'; don't rush. You're a master, you should be able to grasp this point quickly."
Who in the world has ever seen someone who, after being tortured nearly to death and having their limbs broken, still patiently instructed their assailant on how to cultivate?
Li Yuanyang looked profoundly at the calm Xie Tian. At that moment, he truly felt the urge to kill Xie Tian; the calmness made him shiver uncontrollably. He would rather have heard Xie Tian cursing loudly or begging pitifully for mercy.
He had thought that the ruthlessness in his bones, contrasted with his outward amiability, would drive Xie Tian to extreme fear, thereby coaxing out the Cultivation Technique effortlessly. In the end, he did acquire the technique easily, but it seemed Xie Tian wasn't afraid at all, and it was he who became scared.
"This child must not be kept alive!" he sternly reminded himself. Then, with a genial look at Xie Tian, he began to practice the first set of movements of the Primordial Cultivation Technique.
An hour later, Li Yuanyang opened his eyes, having finished his meditation, and his heart was full of shock. He had practiced the first set of movements twelve times, and his body had indeed generated Primordial Yang. Although the amount was pitifully small, it was much purer than the Primordial Yang offered by the Primordial Yang Pill!
"Indeed, it is a cultivation technique that seizes the essence of heaven and earth!"
Li Yuanyang was immensely excited. As long as he continued cultivating, everything he had lost would return. But the prerequisite was that he had to acquire the complete Primordial Cultivation Technique because he was in the Inner Qi realm, and his every action consumed Primordial Yang several times more than Xie Tian's.
"The second set of movements, listen carefully." Just as Li Yuanyang opened his eyes and was about to smile amiably, Xie Tian recited the mantra of the second set of the Cultivation Technique, adding his own insight.
Xie Tian had thoroughly mastered the Primordial Yuan Cultivation Technique over the course of six arduous years. Li Yuanyang couldn't help nodding frequently just listening to Xie Tian's analysis without even having to think, but the deeper his understanding, the stronger his desire to kill Xie Tian became.
Facing Xie Tian was a terrifying feeling, similar to how ordinary people felt encountering Li Yuanyang.
Another hour passed, and Li Yuanyang slowly opened his eyes. Sure enough, the difficulty level of the second set of movements had increased, and it produced twice as much Primordial Yang energy. However, just as he was looking forward to the third set with eager anticipation, Xie Tian remained silent, just quietly watching him.
"Where's the third set of movements?"
"I'm very hungry."
Li Yuanyang locked eyes with Xie Tian for the length of burning an incense stick before he discarded any thoughts of bargaining or even the intimidation by torture, instead, he simply smiled amiably and said, "Alright, how about wild chicken? The wild chicken meat on this mountain is tender yet chewy, truly delicious."
"Any will do." Xie Tian thought for a moment and then added, "Three of them."
As he watched Li Yuanyang leave the cave, Xie Tian lowered his head heavily. Having matched wits with Li Yuanyang for over an hour, he now lacked even the strength to hold his head up.
The moment he lowered his head, another head appeared at the cave entrance. This head belonged to Li Yuanyang.
Seeing that Xie Tian only lowered his head and made no other movements, Li Yuanyang finally felt at ease and left to catch chickens using his Qinggong.
Yin Tian'er, frantically carried under someone's arm, hadn't noticed her eyes were filled with tears.
She had no idea what had happened, only remembering the gut-wrenching scream from her guard leader before she began to soar through the clouds. The rapidly changing altitude pressured her greatly. She desperately wanted to end this unpleasant sensation, but alas, she had even forgotten the ability to speak. The sounds that came from her cherry lips were nothing but meaningless cries of panic.
The guards were loyal, taking Yin Tian'er and running towards the mountain. Of the six guards who had departed, only three remained because a bear appeared behind them from time to time—a bear that ate humans.
Two hours later, the sole remaining guard set down Yin Tian'er, kowtowed to the dazed young lady, uttered "Take care of my family," and then turned and charged back down the mountain.
Whether it was the harsh mountain wind or the terror within, Yin Tian'er's hot tears finally escaped her eyes.
The veil that had concealed her unsurpassed beauty had long been lost. The mountain wind seemed to have taken a liking to this rarely-seen beauty, blowing vigorously against her body. So when the bear-like brute looked up at his future ninth sister-in-law, he finally understood the phrase "too weak to stand against the wind."
"Holy shit! Holy shit!" Seeing Yin Tian'er blown off the mountain summit, the brute's eyes nearly popped out of his head. He froze for a moment, wiped the blood off his face, then with large strides and thundering steps, he began to race up the mountain.
"My ninth sister-in-law, you better not die!"
Alas, when he reached the peak and looked down the cliff, he saw nothing.
He saw nothing, but someone else did.
When Evil Slaughter told Xie Tian that they would be crushed if they didn't move, Xie Tian had no choice but to use one of his trump cards—the Control of the Eighteen Silk Brocade to move his body. He picked up his water jug and stepped three feet to the right, looking up at the other opening above the cave.
"Ah..."
The scream grew louder as it neared, piercing Xie Tian's ears so painfully that he had to retreat another three feet. Then he watched with wide eyes as a white figure rolled from the opening above into the hole in the cave, colliding with the rock wall.
The scream finally stopped because the dirty white figure was knocked unconscious by the impact.
Xie Tian looked up and calculated the trajectory of the white figure's fall, realizing that if he didn't move the body a bit, he wouldn't be able to explain why he was unscathed. So, he walked over to the white figure and gave it a kick.
Taken care of.
Xie Tian walked backward to his original spot, clearing his footprints as he went. Once back in place, he arranged the water jug properly and posed himself as before. When the rustling sound of wind-blown clothes rose, he again lowered his head.
When Li Yuanyang caught sight of the white figure out of the corner of his eye, he nearly went mad with fright. With a whoosh, he dashed out of the cave and shouted sharply, "Who's there!"
"She fell from the sky, knocked out."
Li Yuanyang, carrying three wild chickens cautiously, re-entered the cave and found it to be just as Xie Tian had said, easing his worries. Nevertheless, he still regarded Xie Tian suspiciously and asked, "What exactly happened?"
Xie Tian struggled to lift his head and glance. Following his gaze, Li Yuanyang understood everything, and his heart instantly grew heavy. He always maintained a composed image in front of Xie Tian, but now the latter had seen his cowardly side—an unforgivable slight!
So, he dropped the wild chickens and walked over to the white figure. His right palm filled with Inner Strength was ready to strike, but just at that moment, he suddenly realized that the white figure seemed familiar. When he turned the figure over, he exclaimed in shock, "Yin Tian'er!"
Hearing this name, Xie Tian's calm eyes flickered slightly before returning to normal. Just then, Li Yuanyang turned sharply to look at Xie Tian but saw nothing amiss.
"I'm very hungry. Can we start roasting now?"
