Chapter 2550: The End of All Things
Starsight's words stunned everyone.
For a good few seconds, no one was able to act as they did not understand the situation all that well. Devour the moon? Sunder the sun? What did she mean by all that?
However, her final words were the ones that stuck in these people's minds the most.
The Destroyer.
Alex was very taken aback himself. He didn't understand why the woman said what she did. The panic in him had left at some point, replaced by utter confusion.
"Senior?" he called out, but the woman didn't listen to him. She seemed lost in her own fear, her eyes unable to focus on anything.
"Starsight!" the Storm God's voice cut through all noise, scaring the woman awake. "What did you see?"
The woman slowly turned, her mind trying to create coherent thoughts.
"Annihilation, Your Majesty," the woman screamed. "I saw the end of all things where stars lost their shine and nothing remained. And he is the one behind all of it. So long as he lives, we are doomed, for he is our Destroyer."
Her words were like a hammer to the head. Alex could barely keep his mind straight. Why was she saying all this? What had she really seen that made her this scared?
Everyone stood where they were, not sure what they were to do at that moment. The Storm God had taken control, so everyone just waited for him to make the decision.
"You say he will be our destroyer?" he asked.
Starsight nodded, her body still somewhat shaking in terror.
The Storm God's eyes shifted toward the sky in a certain direction for a brief moment before he looked down at her. "You are certain of this?" he asked.
"Absolutely, Your Majesty. The likelihood of this future being false is close to none," Starsight said.
The Storm God nodded. "Still, I hope you know what you're asking of us here. He is, after all, perhaps the one person whose fame has surpassed any of us for this one singular moment."
"I understand the situation, Your Majesty," she said, barely suppressing the quiver in her old voice. "But it must still be done. This young man must die. For the sake of our survival, we must eliminate him."
"What?"
"Senior!"
Alex and Silvermist reacted at the same time. The words came as a shock to them both.
"Starsight, what are you saying?" the Alchemy God asked, unable to believe his own ears.
The woman turned toward him. "I'm sorry, Your Majesty, but it must be done. The world will come to an end if this young man were to live. We must rid ourselves of him immediately for our own survival."
"But you may be wrong. Just half a day ago, you weren't able to divine at all, and now you can suddenly see the end of our world? And on top of that, you claim that he is the one to do that? What nonsense is that?"
Starsight took a deep breath before shaking her head. "I am not mistaken. I am not wrong."
"I do not believe you. Try again, and see if you—"
Halfway through his words, the Alchemy God pulled out his creation, a lantern with a flame within it. He acted immediately, sending the flame in front of Alex, but he didn't make it in time.
He had acted half a second too late, and as a result, he let the attack pass through. A loud explosive noise caught the attention of everyone, as many only realized then that Alex had been attacked.
They all turned to look at him, ready to see a corpse where he was standing before. However, what they saw was a decrepit old man standing in front of Alex, with his spear spinning in front of him.
Grimsight had appeared before Alex, defending him. He had been alert from the start, so he caught the attack before the Alchemy God did and protected him.
The Alchemy God looked toward Grimsight and gave a nod of approval. He looked at Alex next to make sure he was okay before turning toward the man who launched the attack.
"Purplerain!" the Alchemy God growled. "What do you think you're doing?"
"What do I think I'm doing?" the Sword God asked as he stepped forward with a thin purple sword in his hand. "It should be obvious, should it not? I'm trying to protect our future."
The Alchemy God's eyes narrowed in anger. "Don't you dare attack my alchemist!"
"Your alchemist?" the Sword God scoffed. "As far as I am aware, he did not join any alliance."
"All alchemists here are under my protection. Do not offend me."
"Between the future of our world and you, it should be obvious what it is that I'll choose," Purplerain said and turned toward Grimsight. "What about you, Spearheaven? Are you so close to death that you do not care if the whole world comes to an end soon, since you won't be in it?"
Grimsight held his golden spear in hand and stood as tall as he could with his crooked body. "Do not hide behind righteousness, Sword God. Your killing intent is enough to show everyone that you only wish to kill for the sake of killing."
"And I stand against such wanton killing. If you wish to kill this young man, then you will have to go through me."
The Sword God smiled. "Gladly."
The Storm God sighed and turned toward Starsight. "Do we have to kill him?" he asked. He seemed a little reluctant as well.
"I have done what I could, Your Majesty. I have told you all that he will be the reason for the end of our world. I implore you all to make your own decision on what your actions should be in that instance."
The Storm God smiled. "Then I shall abstain from making that decision," he said and turned toward the rest of the Gods and people.
"Do what you think is right in this situation. Does the young man deserve to live or die? The decision is now in all of your hands."
