Chapter 4: Chapter 4 Lily
Lily needed time to get home since she lived in the heart of the city, and Rose lives outside the city, but today she didn't feel like going home so she went to her usual spot. Her grandad's house. When Lily came to the house, lunch was already prepared for multiple people, like he knew she would come.
House was in better shape than every other house in the city. Most houses were made only from wood but there are few exceptions. House of her grandad was different from other houses specifically because of all the flowers that surrounded the house inside and outside. wherever you would turn there would be flowers.
Lily always complained to him that because of all this smell of flowers her head hurt. When she came inside she left her bag at the doors, grandad was at the end of hall, watering flowers. Lily smelled around to see what he had made for lunch. It was her favourite. Gnocchi with cheese. She looked at him and went straight to his hands for a hug. She hugged him like it was her last day.
"I love you. Just letting you know if I never said it." Lily hugged him stronger as she told him. Grandad just kissed her on top of her head.
"Your name really suits you. You smell like Lily."
"You're only saying this because you named me." She pouted.
"Well it's a pretty name." He shrugged.
"My pretty flower. Lets eat. Then you need to go home."
Lily just rolled her eyes and let go of the hug and went into the kitchen. Kitchen was full of everything. There is on the counter all kinds of spices which are rarely seen at this time. On the table were served Gnocchi and whole chicken. Her grandad is known for making delicious meals. They always wondered why he locked himself in the house and never leaves it. After passing his wife he is never the same. He always says his granddaughter is the same as his wife. They look alike.
"Seriously." He said it was like a command, not a suggestion. He followed her into the kitchen. He put away his gloves which he was gifted by wife.
"Yea, yea. Whatever. I will. But not today." Lily sat down but waited for grandad to sit then start to eat.
"Your mother needs you. Especially today. It's her special day."
"Yeah I am not going then for sure." Lily started to grab food. Grandad from across her grabbed her hands and held them in his.
"Please Lily. For me then, not for her. But for me." Lily just stared at him because he never was like that. Her eyes just watered and looked like crystals.
"I will see. But no promises." Grandad just smiled at Lily's words then he grabbed some food and fed her. They both started to giggle but this nice time was interrupted by soft knocks on kitchen doors. It was Lily's dad.
"Sorry to interrupt your nice bonding time but I am hungry and I know my father in law makes the best lunches in the city and I can't miss this." he wanted to grab form Lily's plate but grandad slapped his hand.
"Go get your own plate. Lily needs more food than you." He smiled towards Lily but looked angry at her dad. "Is there a meeting in my house that I wasn't invited to?" Both Lily and her dad looked confused. "Don't you have your own house?" Lily just giggled. "Don't tell me my daughter is that bad?" He looked between both of them.
"It's not that but she has been busy since her mother died and she totally forgot about HER family." Lily said it in a sarcastic tone mocking her grandad.
"Good point tho." Her dad agreed.
Grandad took the plate from Lily. "Hey! I am eating this." she protested.
"If that's true, next time you come here you are learning how to cook."
"But-"
"No, no. You would know how to cook if you attended all your classes and not always hanging out with this girl. And when will I meet her?" Lily tried to grab a plate from grandad but he pulled back.
"Can I still eat that?" she pointed at food he took from her.
"Lost cause you are." he gave her food back then he stood up and went to sink and filled up a wooden bucket and went to the hall.
"Grandpa look… don't be mad." She waited for him to respond but he didn't. So she rolled her eyes and stood up and went to him. "I will listen to you and I will attend all classes." She tried to hug him but he didn't care so she stopped halfway.
"What about your mother?" he finally responded but not what Lily wanted.
"What about her?" she scoffed. grandad just looked at her and sarcastically smiled. "See you aren't listening to me. How could I believe that you will attend all classes?"
"That is- It is different."
"Lily. How is it different?"
"I-" She wanted to make a good argument but none came to mind.
"Lily, you are almost 20. You already need to know the basics but you don't know anything. You are trying to be smart but you aren't. Don't argue with your mother and learn from her." he didn't even look at her. Lily just stood in the hallway and this time tears escaped her eyes. She couldn't hold them in. She just shook her head in a disproving way and grabbed her bag on her way out.
When Lily left her grandad just grabbed the table that was next to him and then grabbed his heart with another hand. He took a deep breath.
"Thanks for lunch." a faint voice could be heard from the kitchen.
"Go home to your wife." he said angrily to Lily's dad.
"I like it here."
"NOW!" Grandpa is angry.
Lily stomped out of the yard and finally let all her tears come down her face.
