Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Welcome back.
So, the most boring month in Eros's life passed, and standing in front of the tree that was Porlyusica's home, he breathed in the fresh air.
"A month..." the old woman thought with surprise, "You really are not human, such a speed of recovery..."
"Thank you, auntie, once again," Eros said embarrassedly.
"The best gratitude would be if you never showed up here again..." Polyushka said with a chuckle.
"Got it!" the titan responded, saluting playfully, "You be careful too."
"You don't have to worry about me, I can protect myself."
"Are you sure?"
"You little chimp, get out of here!"
"Okay, auntie, goodbye!"
"How many times do I have to tell you, don't call me auntie..." Polyusica said with a sigh, a slight smile on her lips.
A couple of hours later, he had already passed the city gates and was standing in front of the doors to the guild. "I'm back!" Eros thought, smiling, opening the door.
"WELCOME BACK FROM YOUR RECOVERY!" the guild members shouted in chorus, accompanied by an explosion of firecrackers, causing Eros to freeze in the passage from shock.
"Come in, what are you stuck in the door for?" Makarov shouted, grinning, pleased with the reaction.
The titan nodded slowly, taking a step forward, and at the same second, several pairs of hands pulled him in.
"Didn't expect that, huh?" Gildarts asked, approaching.
"Do you always greet people like this after they recover?" Eros asked with a nervous smile, looking at the people having fun.
"No, but you helped the guild a lot."
"Helped?"
"Yes," Makarov nodded, "We didn't suspect that the monsters had escaped from the Dark Forest, and the fact that you were able to destroy one of them and let us know about it helped save the guild's face. Basically, these migrations began only half a month ago, and before that, they lived in the second half of the Dark Forest. But as you understand, the territory became smaller, and the monsters needed a home. Because of this, stronger creatures destroyed the weak and drove them out of the territory. They had no choice but to look for a new one, and their choice fell on the nearest forest."
"Since there were no victims, that's good," Eros said, smiling.
"Okay, have fun, kid," Gildarts said with a grin. "Some of the kids were really worried about you, well, and one old man, besides us." As soon as the two left, Eros felt something squeeze his leg. Looking down, he saw a pair of brown eyes filled with tears. The next moment, he was hugged from behind by a pair of small hands.
"Eros, welcome back," Rick said happily, approaching, and Roni ruffled the thick hair on the titan's head. "Glad you're okay."
"I'm glad to see you too, Rick, Lily, Cana, Roni... And I'm sorry for making you worry," Eros said embarrassedly. "But I can't promise that this won't happen again."
"We already know that, the main thing is to come back alive."
"No problem... Lily, Cana, stop crying already, I'm alive, all my limbs are in place..." he looked at himself thoughtfully, "Yes, in place."
"Idiot! Why didn't you run away?" Lily sniffed and squeezed her neck tighter.
"You'll strangle me!"
"Forgive me..."
"If I had run away, my friend would have died."
"..."
"But in the future, I promise I will become so strong that this will never happen again, ever," Eros said in a firm voice.
"You don't have to take everything on yourself alone," Roni said, smiling slightly. "It is the duty of elders to protect the younger, so you can always rely on us."
"Thank you."
By evening, the celebration was over and everyone began to disperse. Only a few remained in the guild, and mostly those were the people who were so drunk they simply could not move.
Eros spent time with his friends until the evening, chatting and finding out the news for this month. The most interesting thing was that Rick and Roni were trained by the A-rank mage Macao. He is also a fire mage, and what intrigued Eros more was that they both officially became B-rank mages. This rank was awarded to them by Makarov. Of course, the master of another guild does not have the right to do this, but he can assist by submitting an application to the council, and this application will be considered first.
Lily also became a C-rank mage, although she should have been awarded B-rank with confidence, thanks to her healing skills. However, the council refused due to her lack of combat abilities.
"Hello, teacher, can I come in?"
"Come in."
"Everything is as usual, you could at least clean up," Eros said with a sigh. A gray magic circle lit up on his hand, and under the shocked gaze of the senior mage, all the dust and dirt began to disappear.
"What kind of magic is this?"
"Household magic, any mage can learn it, even the weakest one."
"I should learn this spell someday," Gildarts said thoughtfully. "A convenient thing."
"That's a fact," Eros nodded. "But you didn't call me for this, did you?"
Gildarts's face became more serious. "Yes, it's about the magic you used in the forest to defeat that monster."
'As I thought, traces of magic remained in the air,' Eros thought regretfully.
"After studying it, I came to the conclusion that it is very dangerous because of its instability and destructive power. If anyone finds out about such magic, they will want to destroy you immediately. So, tell me, can you control it?"
"…Not completely."
"Could it happen that it could get out of control?"
"I don't know," Eros whispered, looking down. "It doesn't show itself in any way."
"Can you be sure that it won't harm your friends?" After these words, the titan froze. He simply didn't know what to answer, because he himself didn't know the answer to this question.
The next moment, Eros felt fear turn into horror. What if it got out of control when he was in the guild or when Cana and Lily hugged him…
Seeing how quickly the boy's face changed, Gildarts felt guilty, but this conversation had to be started someday.
"I don't know…" Eros said in a quiet voice, but the next moment, his voice became firm, "But I swear that I will never allow this power to get out of control and harm someone!"
"I just wanted to hear this from you, and if so, then I will accept your oath, but if you break it, I will stop you myself."
"Yes!" He shook the outstretched hand of the senior mage. After that, Gildarts' face smoothed out slightly, and even something like a smile appeared. "And one more thing, use this magic only as a last resort, when there is no other choice."
"Got it," Eros nodded with a serious face, "How did you find out about this magic?" The titan already knew the answer but wanted to make sure.
"Judging by the remnants of magic, after its use, its particles will float in the air for about a day, and it will not be difficult to determine what kind of magic it is. But you do not have to worry, I erased all this," Gildarts continued with a guilty face, "But apparently not completely, most likely the council discovered something, since now every day patrols of Rune Knights walk around the city."
"What exactly are they looking for?"
"The Master already asked them, but he was given a rather vague answer that they were looking for a dangerous person."
"Is there a chance that they really are looking for some escaped mage hiding in the city?"
Gildarts nodded. "This option cannot be discarded either."
"If so, then for the next few months, I will simply not use magic and that's it," Eros said, smiling slightly, "I haven't finished the first stage of training yet, have I?"
After hearing this, the senior mage laughed out loud. "Okay, if so, then we will continue improving your physical form tomorrow. That's all for today, tomorrow I'll be waiting for you in the morning, and don't be late."
"Yes, teacher, then see you tomorrow."
"Go."
Having left Gildarts, Eros headed towards home. Over the past two months, the titan had found a way to earn some money by hunting monsters in the forest and selling their carcasses at the market. Thanks to this money, he rented himself a separate apartment on the outskirts of Magnolia.
The next day, he continued training under the supervision of Gildarts, and first of all, he visited Monkey, the Forest Volcano, who lived in the forest. Only when he reached the cave did Vulcan immediately sense him and come out of the cave. Seeing him, Eros was very surprised because he had grown at least half a meter, and the most amazing thing was that he had become stronger.
As usual, the titan was unable to dodge blows or block, and because of this, he left the Eastern Forest in the evening with a black eye. But still, Eros was happy for his friend and now he was calmer about his safety.
Having finished training and arrived at his abode—the Fairy Tail library—he was shocked to see at least five new faces there, and all of them were children.
What shocked him even more was that he was the reason they decided to come to their senses. It turns out that they all consider Eros a real hero and a role model, because at such a young age he managed to defeat an A-rank monster, which means that he is at least an A-rank mage already.
Eros, of course, tried to explain that he defeated him only thanks to luck, but they did not listen to him, and only looked at him with stars in their eyes.
Therefore, he had no choice but to forget about all this and sit down at the table. As usual, he took out a couple of boards and, leafing through the books, the titan studied new runes, trying to advance in this and reach the level of the Master. Only having reached it, Eros will be able to draw the Absorption rune, which will allow him to speed up the absorption of ether from the air.
After all, his speed of restoring Magic Power is already monstrous, but if he can speed it up at least five times, then he will simply have an endless supply of magic, and then the titan will be able to continuously release spells. But Eros himself understands that these are only dreams, and reaching the level of a master in this matter is not an easy job, and at least he will need two more years of nonstop practice and improvement. But this is simply impossible at the moment, so he expects to reach this level in the next five years, and at least the next ten in artifactory.
A week before meeting that monster, he began to study artifactory. After all, after he began to hunt and earn at least some money, Eros immediately bought raw materials and began to make the simplest artifacts possible. To create a ring that could create a fireball, 1 by 1 cm in size, he spent a whole week and a ton of resources. Only after that did he understand why many call this profession a "black hole."
After all, to create one simple artifact, he spent a whole week, as well as all his savings from hunting, and this is almost twenty thousand precious ones. And he was able to sell this ring only for a thousand precious ones to one magician from the guild, who really loved to smoke. Even then, only after he put on the "Strength" rune.
Therefore, Eros again decided to suspend development in this area until better times.
