Chapter 287: The Last Dungeon Conquest 2
Noah descended deeper into the dungeon, leaving the barren plains behind as he stepped onto the second floor. The atmosphere shifted dramatically; the air was thick, rich with the scent of damp earth and the faint aroma of moss. Before him lay an expansive forest, towering trees stretching high into the darkness above, their thick canopies obscuring the dim light. Sunbeams filtered through the leaves, casting dappled shadows on the forest floor, creating a tapestry of light and dark that danced with the gentle breeze.
As he ventured further, Noah could hear the sounds of the forest—a cacophony of rustling leaves, the soft chirping of unseen creatures, and the distant echoes of growls and howls that hinted at the monsters lurking within. In the heart of this forest, he soon discovered the massive village. It was a ramshackle collection of huts and structures made from twisted branches and stones, resembling a chaotic blend of nature and crude architecture. The village was bustling with various monsters, each one more grotesque than the last, wandering about as they tended to their makeshift homes.
Noah halted at the edge of the forest, taking a moment to assess the situation. He needed to conquer this village before he could move forward, but he was acutely aware of the strength of the creatures residing within. The village was a hive of activity, and he could see goblins, ogres, and other monstrous beings milling about—none of them aware of his presence… yet.
He took a deep breath, formulating a plan in his mind. A direct assault would be reckless; he needed to lure some of the monsters away from the village to thin their numbers and create a more manageable fight. The shadows of the trees cloaked him as he moved stealthily, utilizing the forest's natural cover to his advantage.
Finding a suitable spot, he crouched behind a large tree, observing the village. He noticed a group of goblins gathered near a crude bonfire, their voices harsh and grating as they shared stories, oblivious to the dangers lurking in the shadows. Nearby, an ogre lumbered about, its massive frame a stark contrast to the smaller goblins. It appeared to be guarding a pile of stolen loot, its beady eyes scanning the area with a mixture of suspicion and boredom.
Noah's mind raced with possibilities. He needed to create a distraction—something that would draw the goblins away from their fire and into the woods where he could take them down one by one. He reached into his pack and retrieved a small pouch of stones. With careful precision, he selected a few and began to toss them into the underbrush on the opposite side of the bonfire.
The first stone landed with a soft thud, and the goblins perked up, their ears twitching as they turned to look. Noah watched intently, his heart racing with anticipation. He threw another stone, this time a little further away, and the sound drew their attention even more. Leaning in closer, the goblins began to mutter among themselves, their curiosity piqued.
Taking advantage of their distraction, Noah slipped silently from his hiding spot, moving through the underbrush like a shadow. He felt the adrenaline coursing through him as he approached the edge of the clearing, keenly aware of the sounds of the goblins growing louder as they moved towards the source of the noise.
As they ventured further into the woods, Noah's heart beat faster. He had to act quickly before they realized it was a ruse. With a swift motion, he drew Nemesis from its sheath, the blade glinting ominously in the dappled light. He had chosen a spot where he could ambush them as they passed.
The goblins, now fully drawn into the forest, were laughing and chattering amongst themselves, their guard down. As the first one entered his range, Noah leaped from the shadows. In one fluid motion, he swung Nemesis with deadly precision, the blade slicing through the air. The goblin barely had time to react before the sword found its mark, and it crumpled to the ground, lifeless.
The commotion alerted the others, and they turned in surprise, eyes wide with shock. But Noah was already on the move, his instincts guiding him as he charged at the next goblin, his sword striking true once more. The creature fell without a sound, and he felt a surge of confidence with each successful strike.
The remaining goblins hesitated, panic setting in as they realized they were being picked off one by one. Noah capitalized on their fear, using his Presence Detection skill to track their movements even in the chaos. He maneuvered through the trees, appearing like a specter in the shadows, his blade flashing as he dispatched them swiftly.
One goblin attempted to flee back towards the village, but Noah was faster. He dashed forward, cutting off its escape route. With a decisive swing, he ended the creature's life, ensuring that no alarm would be raised.
The sounds of the forest were suddenly quieter, the only noise now was the rustling of leaves and the distant calls of birds. Noah took a moment to catch his breath, scanning the area for any lingering threats. He had successfully lured and eliminated the goblins, but he knew the ogre would still be a formidable opponent.
With the goblins dispatched, he needed to formulate a plan for the ogre. He observed it from a distance, its hulking figure still guarding the pile of loot, seemingly unaware of the chaos that had just unfolded. Noah knew that a direct confrontation would be risky; the ogre's size and strength could easily overpower him if he wasn't careful.
Retreating to a safer distance, Noah considered his options. He could use the environment to his advantage, perhaps leading the ogre into the forest where its size would be a hindrance. He would need to create another distraction.
Noah gathered more stones and began tossing them again, this time aiming for the trees around the ogre, creating a cacophony of noise. The ogre's head snapped up, alert and confused, its beady eyes scanning for the source of the disturbance. As it lumbered toward the sound, Noah prepared himself, positioning Nemesis at the ready.
Once the ogre was sufficiently distracted and had moved away from the loot, Noah seized the opportunity to circle around. The creature was slow, and as it turned its back to him, he moved in quickly, utilizing the element of surprise.
With a powerful leap, he sprang onto the ogre's back, driving Nemesis into its shoulder. The creature roared in pain and anger, thrashing wildly as it tried to throw him off. But Noah held on tightly, using his strength to twist the blade deeper into its flesh.
The ogre swung its massive fists in an attempt to dislodge him, but Noah was nimble, dodging the blows and maintaining his grip. He could feel the beast's strength waning as he continued to strike, each thrust of the sword weakening its resolve until finally, with one decisive blow, he drove Nemesis into the ogre's neck.
As the creature fell with a thunderous crash, Noah jumped clear, landing gracefully on the forest floor. He took a moment to catch his breath, surveying the destruction he had wrought. The forest was quiet again, save for the rustling leaves and the distant chirping of birds.
