Chapter 838: Amber, Seize This Chance
Cobb awoke with no memory of his purpose, just as Saito couldn't recall what had happened.
"This is one hell of a dream nest!"
"A damn smart movie."
In the final scene, the dream-thief team disembarked from the plane, each grabbing their luggage and scattering as if nothing had happened, as if they'd never known each other.
As the audience exhaled in relief, the camera panned to a table.
The spinning top on it kept whirling, never fully stopping, even as the screen faded to black.
"What the hell? What's going on here?"
"Is Cobb still stuck in a dream? Is all this happiness just his subconscious conjuring it up?"
"No way, he's back in reality. If it was his subconscious, why not just bring Meire back to life for a full family reunion?"
"My God, that gave me chills. What a creepy final shot."
As the credits rolled, the theater erupted in thunderous applause.
Amber Heard, stealing glances at Yang Mi, who was trailing Martin onto the stage, felt her eyes burn with envy. This girl, barely older than me, is already a lead in a major Hollywood production. Meanwhile, I'm stuck playing bit parts in obscure films and TV shows. People really can't be compared.
To her surprise, Tasya van Ree hesitated before grabbing her arm, her voice laced with a tangled mix of emotions. "Amber, maybe… tonight's an opportunity."
Amber's eyes widened. "You mean…"
"Exactly what you're thinking!"
Hearing Tasya's confirmation, Amber protested weakly, "That wouldn't be right, would it?"
But her eyes sparkled with intrigue. I want to test it too—am I really not repulsed by getting closer to Martin?
She glanced at Martin, who was walking down the aisle toward the exit, her heart a mess of hesitation and longing, threatening to unravel her.
As Martin approached, Tasya leaned against the wall for support, her legs threatening to give out.
Seeing her girlfriend stay silent, Amber mustered the courage to speak. "Hey, Martin, what's the plan for tonight?"
Martin had already noticed the two lingering nearby, so he'd asked Leonardo to escort Yang Mi back to his Beverly Hills estate.
Leonardo shot him a look of disdain but agreed.
Hearing Amber's awkward question, Martin grinned. "No plans for tonight. What about you two? I know a great pizza joint nearby. Want to come try it?"
Amber's heart raced. She glanced at Tasya, whose face was flushed, her body trembling slightly. Surprised but sensing it wasn't the time to ask, Amber took a leap. "Sure, thanks!"
"No need to be polite. Let's go."
Martin led the two women through a private exit to the parking lot, then drove them off in his car.
In a nearby Maybach, Leonardo was starting the engine. His girlfriend Blake and Yang Mi watched Martin's Rolls-Royce pull away through the window.
Yang Mi sighed, "Maybe that's what love looks like."
"Hey, I've turned over a new leaf, okay? How long has it been since I got into any trouble?" Leonardo protested, wounded.
"Hmph, who knows if you're sneaking around behind my back?"
"I swear, you're the only woman in my life now."
If Yang Mi hadn't heard from Martin that just last month, Leonardo had hooked up with a few models while Blake was away filming, she might've believed him. Smooth talker, she thought, silently impressed.
She could only give Blake a pitying look, saying nothing.
Leonardo, meanwhile, exhaled in relief, focusing on driving, secretly admiring Martin's knack for juggling so many women.
Too bad, no matter how much he begged, Martin wouldn't teach him, always brushing it off with, "It's just natural talent."
In the night, Martin's Rolls-Royce wove through traffic, quickly losing the paparazzi tailing them.
Soon, the car hit the highway.
But it wasn't long before the women realized where they were headed.
