Chapter 17: The Price of Power
The moonlight filtering through the clouds illuminated Kaito's new refuge. He had teleported to a cave hidden among the mountains, far from any traveled path. The rock walls gleamed with mineral veins that reflected the glow of his Gansekigan, a strange synergy between his power and the earth around him. But Kaito had no time to marvel. His body trembled from exhaustion, and the weight of the previous battle crushed him with every beat of his heart.
He crawled toward where his parents and Konan lay, still unconscious. His healing technique had stabilized their injuries, and while they were no longer in immediate danger, they remained in a coma. Kaito felt a wave of despair, but he quickly suppressed it. There was no room for weakness now. He needed to recover and strengthen his security.
As he looked at his family, he remembered stories of Tsunade, the legendary medical ninja. If anyone could help him understand healing better and perhaps speed up his loved ones' recovery, it was her. However, finding her and convincing her to help would not be easy. Still, he had to try. He couldn't just sit idly by waiting for time to do its work.
He struggled to his feet, leaning against the rock wall. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, focusing his Gansekigan. He could still feel the connection with the minerals around him, but his chakra was running low. He couldn't afford to lose consciousness.
"Just a little more..." he whispered to himself.
With effort, he extended his hands and touched the ground. Using what little energy he had left, he shaped the surrounding rock, sealing the cave's entrance with a wall of resilient minerals, leaving only a small opening for air. Now they were safe, at least for a while.
When he finished, he collapsed to his knees, gasping. His vision blurred, and his ears buzzed. The world spun around him before the darkness claimed him.
Hours later, Kaito woke with a start. His breath was erratic, but he felt somewhat better. His body still ached, but the pressure on his chest had eased a little. He turned to look at his parents and Konan. They were still unconscious, but their faces no longer reflected the agonizing pain from before. Their bodies were slowly recovering, though they hadn't woken yet.
"I need to become stronger."
The thought stabbed at his mind like a sharp obsidian. His Gansekigan was a formidable power, but his body still couldn't handle prolonged use. He needed control, training. And he also needed answers.
His mind drifted back to the recent battle. He had unleashed unprecedented power, but at the cost of nearly losing control. What was the true limit of his dōjutsu? Was there anyone else with a power like his? He couldn't help but wonder if there had been others in the past with the Gansekigan, and whether there were records of its existence. If he wanted to understand it fully, he had to find information about its origins.
He got to his feet and approached the sealed cave entrance. He placed his palm on the rock and felt the vibrations of the earth. There didn't seem to be any enemies nearby, but he couldn't take any chances. The Hidden Rain Village would soon notice his disappearance and the traces of the battle. He knew he would have to move soon.
He had to plan his next move carefully. He couldn't afford any mistakes.
He needed to train his body and chakra to withstand the power of the Gansekigan. If he didn't master his own power, he would be consumed by it.
He needed to investigate the origins of his dōjutsu, as its appearance was a mystery even to him. If there was more information about it, he had to find it.
He had to prepare to protect his family, as enemies would surely return. He couldn't afford another battle without being fully prepared.
He needed to find Tsunade, hoping she could help in the recovery of his family. Her renown as the best medical ninja was well-earned, and if anyone could heal what he couldn't, it was her.
Each of these decisions would shape his fate. He knew he couldn't do it all at once, but he had to start as soon as possible.
"I'm not the same as before."
The battle against the masked men had shown him how far he could go, but also how much further he had to travel. Now he had incredible power, but great power without control was as dangerous to him as it was to his enemies. He could no longer afford to act recklessly.
He took a deep breath, closing his eyes for a moment. He felt the pulse of the earth, the vibration of the minerals on his skin. The Gansekigan had awakened. And with it, a new destiny awaited him. A destiny that he had to forge with his own hands.
Before leaving, Kaito remembered something crucial. He knew how to seal the bodies to preserve them in proper condition. With one last effort, he performed a complex seal on his parents and Konan, ensuring that their bodies would be preserved until he could find the help they needed. He also gathered his last reserves of chakra to create a concealment formation around the cave, camouflaging it completely from the outside world. With this, he would be certain that, while he was away, his refuge would remain safe.
He collapsed against the rock wall, exhausted from the effort, but aware that there was still much to be done. His body was slowly improving, but he needed time to fully recover. He couldn't afford to make hasty decisions, and he knew that spending a couple more days in the cave would not only allow him to heal but also reflect on the next steps he needed to take.
With one last glance at his family, he mentally prepared himself. His journey had only just begun.
