Chapter 629: Initial Exploration
--
Cedric's clone explored the ruins around the prison.
His achievements with concept laws of the primitive universe at the fundamental level shouldn't be enough to allow him to travel freely in space. But because his physique and life evolution technically fall under the Immortal Level, he could 'brute force' his way through it.
The ruins were a mixed bag of fortune and danger. Cedric sensed several areas here that could threaten him. Yet at the same time, he had already gotten a few benefits simply scouring the nearby area.
He had gotten treasures and trinkets he had no idea how to use. Some were broken; others were barely functioning. Yet even so, each one gave him clues about how prosperous the nearby civilizations were.
Cedric paid more attention to random texts, books, records, documents...basically anything that contains information. He figured that this would, at the very least, give him a head start and base knowledge about the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm.
'Based on the information I've gathered so far, we should be in the Dark Star Cosmic Domain.'
'Yeah, that would make sense. After all, the spatial turbulence shouldn't be big enough to engulf the entire domain, and all of the data I've gathered so far are written in the same language and have mentioned the Dark Star Domain.'
Luckily, Cedric got a history book containing records about the Dark Star Domain.
The Dark Star Domain was located in the southern region of the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm, and it's just one of the many cosmic domains out here. It also mentioned that the Dark Star Domain was actually not even near the top of the rankings when it comes to prosperity. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either.
From what he learned, the Dark Star Domain was extremely huge. It's about the size of five Primeval Scarlet Dust Realms fused together, and it's actually considered quite small by the standards of people here.
The area he's in right now just happened to be considered one of the few 'Death Zones' within the Dark Star Domain. It's like their version of the Void, a place that is extremely dangerous, one that they wouldn't go to unless they have a solid reason to do so.
Rumors said that not even Heavenly Venerates would dare to intrude in places like this, which made Cedric doubt its legitimacy since it certainly didn't stop Odin.
It's not like the Void Prison was swept here. The Void Slave confirmed that it was Odin who deliberately created and left the prison here; then he fucked off to who knows where and never showed up again.
This place being a death zone explains why Cedric could feel strong threats to his life in some areas here. Fortunately, he was cautious enough to avoid those areas, or else he would lose this clone.
But, returning to the Dark Star Domain...
Each Cosmic Domain has a 'Domain Lord,' as they call it. A position that is similar to a 'governor' and their responsibilities are the same: to protect and push their domain into a more prosperous state.
Domain Lords are strong experts. And the one who's currently sitting in the position was someone assigned by an organization called the 'Cosmic Atlas Palace.'
The Cosmic Atlas Palace was actually a human organization, and it's one of the overlords of the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm.
Cedric hasn't learned much about the Cosmic Atlas Palace, but he assumes that it's similar to the Divine Council or the Alliance of the Primeval Scarlet Dust Realm. He did discover that the entirety of the Southern Region was under the jurisdiction of the Cosmic Atlas Palace and anybody who crossed them would die miserable deaths.
Some were even chased and forced to enter this place, and not a single one returned alive.
It's from these corpses that some of this information came from...
'This chaos realm is simply too big...' Cedric lamented yet was also excited.
No wonder the Void Slave said that the Primitive Universe was seemingly without end. The scale of the Dark Star Domain alone was already too large for Cedric to explore. The whole Southern Region was even bigger, and still, even that's just a single corner of this chaos realm! There are five known chaos realms so far, and the Void Slave revealed that every chaos realm has humans.
How many humans exactly are in here? Is there even a measurement scale that could estimate just how many of them there are?
No wonder Odin didn't feel any shame or guilt abducting a tribe or two for his experiments even though he's human himself. Because in the grand scheme of things, it wouldn't have mattered anyway. Nobody would even bat an eye for what he did, especially if he never told anybody in the first place.
'Well...one step at a time. I'm not in a hurry for now'.
Amongst the much information and data Cedric gained during his little explorations, he also discovered some skills, spells, and techniques scattered about. Obviously, he gathered all that he could and read through them.
These things follow the same strength chart as Life Evolution here. For example, he saw something called 'Nine Ghostly Flashes,' a movement technique that says to be at the Grand Solar Level.
There's also the 'Hundred Mountain Collapsing Fist,' a Cosmic Level combat technique, and the 'Tune of Heavenly Immortals,' a spell at the Immortal Level, though an incomplete one. Cedric has seen more, but that's the general gist of it.
Cedric took his time reading them; he analyzed the information and cross-referenced them with his knowledge. As expected, humans here have a deeper understanding of the human body and life evolution.
Even the weakest technique here, which is at the Grand Solar Level, was particularly enlightening to Cedric, especially since he was ignorant about many things about the civilization here.
Obviously, he practiced them. And it didn't take long for him to master some and gain some benefits even at his current state.
With him becoming more and more familiar with life evolution here, his recognition of laws was also improving faster, yet it's still not fast enough for his liking.
Alas, he couldn't do much about it, so for now, he satisfied his curiosity by exploring the nearby area, making sure to not go too far away from the Void Slave's range.
Hiss!
Cedric's instincts suddenly flared to life. Without any hesitation, he dropped, going almost parallel to the ground, avoiding a dangerous presence that jumped him. He pushed his heels to put some distance between him and the beast, but it quickly swerved after it missed and chased after him.
He swatted it with his palm, using just enough force to disorient it, and he managed to do so. He then impaled it with a sword on nearby debris to take a close look at it.
It was a snake. It has purple and violet skin glimmering with faint stardust. It struggled in place and hissed angrily at Cedric, yet no matter how much it tried, it couldn't free itself.
The snake looked emaciated. It has also sustained some injuries, one that Cedric didn't inflict on it.
He could sense the hunger, anger, and unwillingness about the situation. Furthermore, he could also sense his fear of death.
Cedric didn't know what this creature was called, and it doesn't matter anymore. This thing attacked him, so it could only blame itself for its death.
With a chop of his hand, the snake's head was bisected, and it stopped struggling since it was dead. Cedric harvested its body, not really knowing which part of it was valuable or if any of it had value at all.
Hopefully it doesn't rot in his storage before the time comes when he could exchange it. But for now, that remains to be seen. It shouldn't, but Cedric can't say for sure. After all, the laws of this place are entirely different from what he knew, and he's still trying to understand its fundamentals.
Though the appearance of this snake was a reminder to him that this place wasn't completely safe and that he always had to be on guard here. If it weren't for his sharp instincts, he wouldn't have even seen or felt this snake swallowing him whole.
'My senses are messed up too because I have yet to truly synchronize with this world,' Cedric muttered inwardly while shaking his head.
As if it wasn't enough that he happened to be inside what others considered a 'Death Zone'...
And thus, Cedric's zone of exploration was limited for now. He doesn't have the confidence to go too far, so he won't for the time being, as tempting as that might be.
This snake might not be the only one here. If anything, it has already proven that he's not alone here.
Beasts are dangerous, but intelligent creatures are potentially more dangerous. If he could exist here, others can too. Odin could come and go to this place, proving that there is a way for others to do the same.
Cedric has to be on guard. He's not ready for confrontation yet.
