Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking

Chapter 516: Shattered Gates; Void's Descent

--

Today started as another tension-filled day...

The guardians, still busy with their preparations for the worst, continued as usual, building, moving, and doing their responsibilities. They move like well-oiled machines at this point, and despite the tension and threat looming over their heads, they remain capable of functioning largely thanks to their leaders.

But what should have been another usual day at work for them turned into a true nightmare in a snap of a finger.

The muffled explosion rocked the camps, originating from the gates. Everybody was startled and looked over only to see the mighty gates that sealed the entrance to the void shivering like a leaf amidst a storm.

Weng!!

An alarm rang throughout the camp, returning everybody to the present. The blaring sound echoed to all corners, making sure that everybody and their mothers would know that there is an alarm. This particular sound signaled an invasion, prompting everybody to move to their stations to meet the enemy.

But even the loud screeching of the alarms couldn't silence the muffled explosions happening on the other side of the gates.

Seeing this, some people couldn't help but think, 'How kind of them to use the proper entrance.'

By all means, these void creatures could've used the holes in the Scarlet Division Wall to invade the realm. They've done that before, and it shouldn't be beneath them to do it again. But somehow, it seems that today, they are adamant to enter the realm properly through the gates.

The quick-witted ones who already mounted the weapons pointed them at the entrance. They thought that since these creatures are adamant to use the proper entrance this time, it makes it easier for the soldiers to bottleneck their discharge of troops.

The Paragons and the Chancellors also appeared. They hovered above the skies of the camps, looking solemnly at the gates.

They too didn't expect that the invasion, which was most likely led by the Void Prince, would happen this quick. A month barely passed since the birth of the prince, yet he already set his sights on the realm. Was he that confident or simply naive and arrogant?

Well, it seems that they're about to figure it out very soon...

BOOM!!

This time, the explosion was no longer muffled.

The gates that have sealed one of the pinned entrances to the void for thousands of years directly blew up in front of the guardians' faces. It's a difficult scene to watch, simply because those gates used to be the source of security not only to the guardians but also to the entire realm, yet it collapsed today.

What followed the collapse was a terrible and ominous presence of the void. One that is far stronger and more dreadful compared to what they've felt previously.

The scanners couldn't have anticipated this, especially now that they seem to have been rendered completely useless since the Void Prince's birth.

What's left was the swirling mass of abyss that led to the void. The appearance of it has long been embedded in the memories of those who used to enter it to go to the other side.

And how that swirling mass of abyss began to function like a drain where the tsunami of void discharged.

Boom!!

The waves of black and white liquid crashed into a hard-light shield prepared by the army. It originated from the pylons that had been active for a while now and has been repurposed these past few days. This hard-light barrier is what's preventing the roaring tsunami of withering void from decimating their ranks.

But of course, this was just the opening...

What follows was the discharge of void creatures at a rate that has never been seen nor heard of before. They came swimming with the current, intent on laying waste to everything before them.

Boom!!

It was hard to tell who released the first shot from the guardians' side, but it's not really that important now. Everyone knew what they had to do, and simply watching or waiting for their eventual demise certainly wasn't one of those.

Cannons, ballistas, firearms, missiles, bombs... all manner of weapons of war were fired towards the tsunami of void. There was no holding back at this point; it's do or die for the guardians.

The creatures of Primordial Chaos met the Void Creatures with an equal amount of ferocity. Mercy wasn't a concept for the opposing parties. It's kill on sight for both.

Despite being caught relatively unprepared, the defenses of the Northwester Guardian Camp held up. Up ahead, there were at least dozens of flamethrower turrets moved up, incinerating and boiling the void to reduce its density and to make it weaker so that the barriers wouldn't suffer too much burden.

There's a sniping contest happening among a few soldiers. With merit points on the line, they competed on who shot down the most void creatures, with bonus points for headshots.

In no time, the entire camp has been flooded by the void. The efforts to reduce its density were barely slowing it down. This was a bad sign for the guardians because if the volume exceeded the camp's capacity, it would start to overflow to the realm, and that just simply can't happen now.

Amidst all the explosions and chaos, Cedric kept his presence low. His eyes closed as he stayed under one of the more protected areas of the camp. But his senses, on the other hand, couldn't be any more active.

He was actively monitoring the entire camp, and nothing could escape his sight. The void could no longer confine his vision, especially after his breakthrough.

To others, the void tsunami might be a death sentence. But for Cedric? This was probably the most potent energy source he could ever ask for. So much so that if he consumed too much, he might explode.

It's a pity that he's confined to this place. Otherwise, he would've tried to gather a few dozen liters of this to use for his future breakthrough.

He didn't linger in this loss, though. Cedric continued to monitor the situation, alert to any sharp changes in the battlefield.

Because despite the chaos and doom of their current situation, he knows that this was far from the worst-case scenario. If anything, this was just a warm-up. The true horrors of the void had yet to make an appearance.

And he's absolutely right...this was just the beginning of this nightmare.

Roar!!

A resounding roar filled with aggression and dominance swept across the camp, originating from the depths of the waters. In Cedric's eyes, a creature that resembled a twisted form of a sea lion appeared. Its form was mangled, and it has numerous eyes and tentacles writhing all over its body. Its mouth resembled a black hole that swallowed light itself, and it swam extremely fast, head-butting the hard-light barriers at a speed exceeding the speed of sound.

Boom!!

The impact caused the barrier to shake dangerously. Some of the pylons even flickered just for a bit because of the strength behind it.

The twisted sea lion was only the first one to appear. More followed after it, and every single one did their best to destroy the barriers that are keeping most of the soldiers safe.

It was at this point that the Paragons and the Chancellors made a move.

Donning their state-of-the-art Void Suits, they plunged into the void sea and confronted these huge nightmares. They struck with overwhelming ferocity, intent on making sure these creatures never got past the walls and never returned from here either.

All methods were displayed. At this point, it's clear that holding back was no longer possible. Lives are at stake here, and it's their responsibility as guardians to ensure that none of these living nightmares escape from their grasp.

The flashiest of them all were, of course, the chancellors...

These Cosmic Lords displayed their strengths, giving hope to the soldiers under their lead.

The Wise Dragon Chancellor revealed his tyrannical strength in his true form. The Ancient Titan Chancellor displayed his mind-boggling size, easily toppling the void sea that formed around the camp. The Primal Beast Chancellor and the Divine Celestial Chancellor reaped the lives of void creatures like wheat. And both the Mystic Fae and Holy Spirit Chancellors stayed back, releasing volleys of spells and spiritual attacks that shaved their numbers.

With them in the field, the morale of the guardians climbed to the peak. Their participation marked the full-scale war between the guardians and the void creatures.

But while chaos erupted at every corner of the camp, Cedric remained still, feeling some sense of foreboding within him.

His eyes were no longer focused on the entire battlefield; instead, he concentrated on the entrance, watching it like a hawk.

He couldn't help it. He knew that there was something, or someone, standing on the other side of the entrance. Cedric had no idea why it hasn't come out yet, but he knew that that's one that they must be on the lookout for. Cedric felt this more intimately, and he's sure that he's not wrong. His instincts won't betray him at a time like this.

'That might be the Void Prince, then.'
