Embrace of the void

Chapter 37: The Capture

Michael stood over the corpse of the goblin, determination etched on his face. With a flick of his wrist, he summoned a rank S mana core along with a variety of treasures from his ring—items he deemed unnecessary for the task at hand. His focus sharpened as he prepared to initiate the revival process.

Activating his skill, {Undead Revival}, Michael watched as the corpse became engulfed in swirling black flames interspersed with flickers of purple. The air crackled with energy as the lifeless form began to tremble. Channeling his innate ability, he summoned the affinity stones; they rose and glimmered in the dim light. The mana core and treasures disintegrated, their essence merging with the corpse.

Moments later, the dwarf stood, hair black as night, skin a deep brown, and eyes glowing an eerie dark purple. Michael felt a surge of satisfaction as he assessed the dwarf's status.

Michael's heart swelled with pride at the dwarf's condition. "I'll name you Thorin," he declared.

Tyrone, a member of their group, looked around with curiosity. "Do you have alcohol?" he asked innocently.

Nyxar laughed heartily. "He seems a bit mad too. Welcome to the family!"

Michael, however, was undistracted. He retrieved two more bodies along with a collection of treasures, mana cores, and affinity crystals, then consumed a potion to restore his magical energy. Activating his skill once again, he focused intently on the two corpses before him.

After two minutes of intense concentration, two creatures emerged before him. The first was a sleek black snake, three meters long, with piercing purple eyes and a menacing black horn atop its head. The second creature was a majestic black hawk, its feathers tinged with purple and its eyes glowing with the same eerie light.

Eager to assess their potential, Michael checked their statuses.

"They are just monsters without classes like Ravens and Orcs," Michael mused. "I hope to develop them further in the future. You'll be Sylas, and you, the bird, will be Raijin."

With a flourish, Michael activated his {Undead Summoning} skill, bringing Thorin, Sylas, and Raijin into his fold. He then checked his own condition, feeling a surge of accomplishment.

Michael felt a swell of satisfaction at his progress. "Now, all I need is to capture the Crimson Wolf and two more beasts to upgrade my rank."

"Old man, can you prepare a card for Thorin and a license for Sylas and Raijin?" He called to Lucian.

"Sure, I'll have it ready. But for now, you can head home; I have a lot of work to do," Lucian replied.

With a nod, Michael returned home, accompanied by Morgoth and Vragoth, who slipped back into the shadows.

On his way, he utilized his {Ethereal Link} skill to connect with Raven. "Any updates, Raven?"

"No new developments. They've returned from exams to the palace, and I've kept my distance to avoid detection," Raven replied.

"Alright, we have a mission in the forest," Michael decided.

"Sounds good. I'm ready to go!" Raven responded.

Disconnecting from Raven, Michael turned to Nixar, who asked, "What mission will we undertake in the forest?"

"Since we now have Raven and Raijin, we'll investigate the orc village," Michael explained.

Nyxar's eyes gleamed with excitement. "Let's go! It's been too long since I've had a good fight."

With that, Michael and Nixar stealthily exited into the forest, ensuring they went unnoticed.

Once deep within the woods, Michael summoned Raijin. As a rift opened in the void, a giant bird emerged, its wings magnificent and powerful.

Michael felt exhilarated; this was his first experience riding a magical beast. He and Nixar climbed onto Raijin's back, feeling the rush as the bird flapped its enormous wings and soared into the sky.

The wind whipped against Michael's face, and he reveled in the sensation. To shield them from the fierce gusts, Raigin conjured an invisible air barrier. Moments later, they were soaring high above the clouds.

"I can't believe this! It feels incredible!" Michael exclaimed, his heart racing.

Nixar, grinning from ear to ear, replied, "Just wait until you reach higher ranks. You'll be able to fly on your own someday. But for now, we need to check the orcs."

After a brief flight, they located the orc village below. Michael summoned Raven and instructed him to infiltrate the village quietly.

Raven split into three smaller crows, descending silently toward the orc settlement. Michael used his Ethereal Link skill to share his vision with Raven.

Seconds later, he found himself observing the orc village through Raven's eyes. To his surprise, the village appeared deserted, devoid of any orc inhabitants.

The three crows continued their search but found nothing amiss within the village.

Just then, one crow detected something unusual and flew out of the village, landing on a tree nearby.

Two humans were seated among the trees, engaged in conversation.

"Do we really have to stay here and watch? It's been ages since the village was attacked, and the perpetrator hasn't returned. Why bother waiting now?" One of the observers said, puffing on a cigarette.

"Those are the orders. We must follow them, no matter how pointless it seems," the other replied.

Michael listened intently, piecing together the situation.

Michael's mind raced with possibilities. The mission had just become more complex than he had anticipated. "We need to capture those humans for questioning," he declared, a newfound determination in his voice.

Nixar nodded, excitement flickering in his eyes. "Let's do it. They might have valuable information about the orcs and their activities."

Michael assessed the situation with keen eyes, formulating a plan. "Raijin, land silently nearby," he instructed, his voice low and steady to avoid drawing attention. As the massive bird descended gracefully, he summoned Vragoth, Morgoth, and Sylas, readying his forces for an effective ambush.

"Nyxar, Raijin, and I will take the one on the left," Mikael directed, his tone authoritative yet calm. "You handle the one leaning against the tree, Sylas."

The group moved as one, slipping into the shadows, their movements fluid and deliberate. They approached the two unsuspecting humans, their hearts pounding in anticipation.

As they closed the distance, Sylas became one with the darkness, vanishing from sight. He maneuvered silently, inching closer to one of the leaning figures. With a sudden strike, he coiled around the man, constricting tightly and rendering him immobile.

Simultaneously, Vragoth conjured a series of black chains that sprang forth from the shadows, ensnaring the struggling figure and securing him in place. The chains shimmered ominously, pulsating with dark energy as they bound their captive.

Meanwhile, Nyxar utilized his Void Step skill to get closer to deliver a powerful kick to the other man. The force of the strike sent the human staggering backward, disorienting him. Seizing the opportunity, Raijin unleashed a bolt of lightning, crackling through the air with blinding speed. The electric surge struck the man, stunning him into unconsciousness, his body collapsing to the ground.

With their targets incapacitated, the group regrouped, ready to extract information from their captives and delve deeper into the mystery surrounding the orc village and the factions at play.
