Elemental chaos

Chapter 2: Life of Axel

Axel, a seemingly ordinary young man, carried within him a complex tapestry of emotions and aspirations. Growing up in a family of four, he had often felt isolated, a solitary observer of the world around him. His strict father, with his air of superiority, and his devout mother, with her unwavering faith, had shaped his early years.(Axel did have a peculiarity, he had always been too sensitive to light from his childhood and always preferred to have the lights closed in a room.)

His childhood, spent largely with his grandmother, had been a period of innocence and wonder. He had developed a vivid imagination, often losing himself in fantastical worlds. As he grew older, his curiosity turned towards the tangible world, particularly the realm of physics. The intricate laws of the universe fascinated him, offering a sense of order and predictability in an otherwise chaotic world.

However, as he progressed through his academic career, a subtle shift began to occur. The initial passion and excitement that had fueled his studies started to wane. The pressure to conform, to excel, and to meet societal expectations began to weigh heavily on him. The once vibrant spark within him began to dim, replaced by a sense of apathy and disillusionment.

The academic world, once a place of intellectual pursuit, had revealed its darker side. He had witnessed firsthand the petty politics, the backstabbing, and the rampant egotism that plagued the scientific community. The hypocrisy of those who preached objectivity and reason, yet succumbed to the allure of fame and recognition, had left him disillusioned. He recalled a time when he had been deeply empathetic, willing to help others without expecting anything in return. He had once mentored a young, aspiring physicist, sharing his knowledge and experience.

However, the young physicist had betrayed his trust, stealing his research and claiming it as their own. The betrayal had shattered his faith in humanity, leaving him bitter and cynical. From that moment on, Axel had withdrawn from the world, building a wall around himself. The empathy and compassion that had once defined him had been replaced by a cold, calculating demeanor.

He had learned a harsh lesson: trust was a luxury he could no longer afford. His decision to pursue a career in civil services was a desperate attempt to find meaning and purpose. But as he navigated the bureaucratic labyrinth, he found himself increasingly frustrated. The stark contrast between the idealistic world of physics and the harsh realities of bureaucracy left him feeling lost and alone. Now, at twenty-six, Axel was a shadow of his former self.

Unemployed and living with his parents, he spent his days adrift, his once brilliant mind clouded by doubt and uncertainty. His love life had been equally disappointing, a series of failed relationships that had left him wary and cynical.
